TRUSTED SOURCE says there will be an X-E2 successor, called X-E2s or X-E3!

 photo X-E2 successor_zpsodxedpgv.jpg

According to a trusted source, Fuji decided to launch an X-E2 successor. The source could not share specs for now and was also not sure if it will be called X-E2s or X-E3… but it will definitely come :)”

  1. ok, that means I will need to wait even longer perhaps until I see what to upgrade my X-E1 to. I’ll need to see all three next gen cameras before deciding but it’s a god way of holding onto my money for a bit longer!

  2. I like form factor of de X-E (and X-Pro) much more than the form factor of the X-T & X-T10, but I wonder if a successor of the X-E is correct. Because the target group of all these Fuji camera’s is more or less the same.

  3. So now we get X-Pro 2, X-T2, X-E3 and probably X-T20 that contain all the same hardware but with only minor different looks to them.

    1. Why not? You have a range of different form factors for different users. You have the rangefinder-style product, the side-eyepiece pure EVF camera for mirrorless purists, the DSLR-like ‘mirror hump’ for traditionalists, and the small camera for those after miniaturisation. They all have their own appeals, and it placates the ‘what have you done for me lately’ casual buyers who won’t buy anything more than three months old on principle.

This seems a better scheme than reinventing the wheel every six months, and leaving your client-base with a camera depreciating at a rate of 66% per year as a result.

      1. Yup. I didn’t pull the trigger on Fuji until the XT-10, which checked all the right boxes for me in terms of size, controls, ergonomics, performance and price point. It also helped that B&H was selling a very gently used XT-10 and 35/1.4 at a decent discount. =)

      2. Not complaining by the way, it was just an observation.

As a matter of fact I think its a strong strategy.
4 different cameras and basically 1 production line comes down to huge cost reductions.

    2. same sensor != same hardware. They all have different selling points – pro has the hybrid viewfinder, X-T has the oversized viewfinder and weather sealing, X-Txx has less cache and simplified ergonomics. Horses for courses and all that. Nothing Canikon et al haven’t been doing for years!

  4. after spending so much money on other brands, i still fail to deliver pics that match my XQ2…. please please please put a 24MP sensor in XE3 and i will switch back to full time fuji

        1. I’ve always seen X-E2 to the XPro1 what the XT-10 to the XT-1 is.
I mean, it was just my opinion, of course. I don’t like tilt screens. I apologize if it sounded kind of rude.

          1. Not taken as rude. I like to shoot from the waist or camera on the ground. Tilt screen is wonderful for that. I am sad the X-pro 2 won’t have it.

  5. Hmmmm ……… verry good news.
But now have to replace my X-pro1 for a X-pro2, and my XE-2 for a XE-3.
    2016 wil be a expansive year 🙂

    1. Bayer is Kodak Eastmann technology.

Fujifilm is not going to use that anymore now they have invented x-trans.

      1. Then they should also take care of 3rd party raw developers bringing decent results. LR is still a mushy sh**. I am running LR5 though and am not wiling to upgrade to LR6.

        1. So Fujifilm should work with Adobe to update old software? If you can’t be bothered paying money, try the bleeding edge release of Rawtherapee. Not so mushy.

  6. The X-E2 firmware (AF-system) upgrade would basically turn it into a Super X-E2 already, while any real successor would surely have/need a new sensor to be worthwhile, and then calling it anything other than X-E3 wouldn’t make much sense.

  7. This doesn’t make much sense. I suppose in a year or so the X-series ILM range will consist of: X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T20 and the X-M2/3. That’s pretty much all bases covered. Where would an X-E2s/X-E3 fit in there…maybe instead of an X-T20 or along side it?

PS. Also what worries me a bit here is that I have an X-E2 and have been waiting for the rumoured firmware v4.0 to be released. But if they’re going to introduce an all new model, that firmware update might not happen!

    1. Yes, perhaps the line up would be too crowded. one has to consider Fuji’s ambitions of expanding “the system” (read “sales”) too.

I get the impression the Pro2 will be a fair bit more “exclusive” compared to current models, ie more expensive than T1/T2. If they go really crazy with the hybrid finder, only that could make it a very expensive camera.
Then, I think a E3 could fit rather nicely in the gap between T2 and T20 (corresponding to the current pricing difference between T1 and T10).

    2. Perhaps they want us to upgrade, so they can work on a line of FF cameras and lenses after all. A fast upgrade path will give them a little more time for development, so they can join the FF party in 2018.

Soon Fujifilm will be the only one offering APS-C, now rumors start to increase about Canon and Nikon will join the party of serious full frame mirrorless cameras.

      1. Not sure about Canon, but Nikon has a serious problem with mirrorless as they don’t want to hurt the sales of DSLR and all the patents for the CX mount (their current mirrorless attempts) are for slow lens. Nikon would have to make a spectacular change of direction which I am not sure they are capable of doing.

    3. It depends on how you see the lineup. I think the “rangefinder-style” EVF fans will be more willing to pay slightly more so I could see the X-E3 being priced between X-T20 and X-T2 – at around 1000 bucks. Put the same innards inside as the X-T20 but give us the X-E3 in a better built body, possibly with weather sealing.

I am also slightly afraid of it influencing the coming FW update but really I think that’s not too likely. The X-E3 will probably not come out before the end of 2016 and it will be differentiated enough by the new sensor and all the goodies that come with it. The FW update won’t pose a thread to X-E3 sales.

    4. Their line up would make sense 3 APSC interchangeable lines

      “rangefinder-like line EVF/OVF” X-PROx / X-Ex
      “dslr-like line EVF” XT-x / XTxx
      “P&S Back screen only” X-Q …

then they have a higher specs and a lower specs body in each line

      1 APSC fixed line
      X100x

This way they do cover all the bases

and then there is the sub apsc world (X30…) ….

  8. Patrick,

I just received information that on January 15th we will also get an announcement about FW 5.0 for the X-T1 and supposedly also some FW update to the X-E. Heard nothing about an update to the X-T10 though.

Focus is on flash update and general requests. 😉

Could you please check with your sources for confirmation or crap?

    1. Also heard similar news from a X series accessories designer in China who just visit fuji SH office. According to his deleted blog: 2 camera should be launch. XP2 and another is “brother” line of X100 series.

    1. With respect, if video is so important to you why don’t you get a specialised tool ? They should always be better than a jack of all trades, I would not use a video camera for stills

  9. i love the specs of the x pro but its a bit large , for me , ive found the xe1 and 2 to be the perfect sized body …its large enuf to have accessible and
perfectly sized controls but not to small to be cramped or limiting in any way

    x 100 ,s,t is a nice size too

  10. I knew it. X-E3 will be stripped version of X-PRO2, no weather sealing, one memory card slot, smaller, etc, but same processor and sensor
    in future
X-PRO2 = pro rangefinder, perhaps special editions?
    X-E2= rangefinder (stripped X-PRO2)
X-T2= pro dslr like, 4k video
X-T20= drsl like (stripped X-T2, just like X-T1/X-T10
my name is George but you can call me Nostradamus

      1. “professional” aka better equipped, also for photographers who consider them self as professionals, becouse they have expensive camera with all the features 🙂

  11. Awesome news. I am a big fan of XE serie and will gladly purchase any upgraded version of excellent XE-2, name doesn’t really matter. I feel the “XPro/XE & XT/XT10 logic” makes a perfect sense and will help to cleanup a recent chaos with absurd models. Thank you Fuji for keeping up with great work!

  12. i still think we can do with a fuji version of something similar to panny LX100.

a 3-4 times zoom lens with EVF and a sensor sized slot between X30/XQ2 and APS-C.

  13. fuji has probably confused a firmware update whit a camera update… too much devices on the market! We are still waiting for a X100S and XE2 firmware update. hurry up fuji

    1. While that’s possible, I’d expect the XE-3 (or 2s – whatever) to be released another 6 months or so after the X-Pro2 (pattern they’ve been using for a while now). The XE2 firmware is what was promised Mid Jan and that rumour hasn’t changed as far as I know.

    1. What’s up with you and micro contrast lately? I think you’ve never shot with old film lenses…
Especially when it has nothing to do with the actual post it starts to get annoying.

  14. The Fuji strategy of segmenting its products is very reasonable, and until now predictable which is good for us — users.

I think Fuji is spliting in two branches its camera lines, one intended for those who are primarily concerned to photography (XP & XE) and other one (XT) for those who wants a camera ‘swiss-army-knife’ like with all gadgetry present on current DSLR’s.

Both lines of customers has priorities, preferences, hardware and functionalities that are not necessary compatible. Even on lenses has started such spliting — XF35 f/2 – f/1.4.

I’m a X-E2 user and its advantages of volume and weight -with the right lenses- versus X-T1|X-T10 are noticeable in the handling and portability, which response to my needs, skills and the style of photography I do.

Otherwise put an XF zoom -especially a 2.8- on the XP & XE line is not an optimal decision due to ergonomics and handling imho.

To me, a possible X-E3, as a kind of stripped X-Pro2, is a very good new that could ignite my G.A.S, depending of what of those cameras suits better my photography needs and style. Meanwhile I continue investing on quality glass – especially the Fujinons ?
