[UDPATE: I’ve been told that more EU stores are already shipping this lens]
There is probably no Fujifilm X gear that started shipping faster than the Fujinon XF 16-55mmF2.8 WR!
In fact, Dutch store fotohanskeuzekamp has already received the first bunch of lenses and is now fulfilling pre-orders (just 24 days after its announcement)!
In USA, AmazonUS expects to have it in stock on the 12th of February, Adorama on the 25th of February and BHphoto simply says “Coming Soon”.

Can’t wait! B&H get it moving, now. A real photographer’s lens. I expect it to be the best zoom I have ever laid hands on (knock on wood) :~)
Sounds good. Maybe they’ll manage to start delivering the X-Pro2 in a matter of weeks after announce?…
because the OVF will be very useful with that big glas?
I just had a “vision”. I am sure I’m not the only one. The upcoming X-Pro2 with a nice EVF only (X-T1’s quality at least) – no hybrid viewfinder. Too many great XF lenses that are too big now and will enter in the OVF frame. The days of hybrid VFs are numbered – but they are a charm to use and they are perfect for non-interchangeable cameras, like X100T.
The only selling point of the X-Pro1 is the hybrid viewfinder. Taking that away isn’t really a vision. It’d be a disaster.
Nobody forces you to put a 50-140 onto a X-Pro1. There are many primes which can be nicely used with an X-Pro1.
The X-pro1 is like a convertible car. In winter time, you’d probably leave the top closed. But during summer days you’d enjoy the pleasure of open-air mode driving. 🙂
Looking at the second picture, I suddenly remember why I upgraded from a 400D to a 40D after buying the 17-55 2.8.
And that already ridiculous lens-to-body-size-ratio is the reason, why I hope that Fuji doesn’t go FF with its X-Series.
It’s actually shipping at many european online shops now.
The shop that is mentioned has stock. Mine arriving Monday. It was tempting to other there. But I get 200,- discount that worth waiting?
I might pick one up later down the road. Let the price settle down a tad and waiting for some proper reviews. Mostly will be concerned with how it renders out of focus and sharpness, the rest will be more than ok I think.
Funny thing is it isn’t all that big for a F 2.8 zoom just big compared to primes.
Mine will arrive tomorrow. 100 Euro below normal prize.
Don’t get it really, It’s way to big… wanting to use such lenses I’d rather go for dSLR… would be bigger of course, but this fuji setup is not small in any terms… and would have FF for the price (i know, i know…). Anyway, I wish fuji were updating/introducing proper small lenses, mostly new version of 18mm, with distance scale, F2 as current version, bit better IQ, and 23mm F2, current 1.4 is brilliant but way too big… so sth like on x100 series but with distance/dof scale (biggest shame on Fuji for not having it on x100/s/t – why so?)
Man, when looking at that lens from the side, I wonder if the rumors are true that the recent Fuji lens releases can actually cover a full frame sensor. Seems like they could be.
Got mine today and I like. 😉
≈ 900 EUR at “Foto Köster” in Germany.
The X-T1 is really a very nice, well designed camera, a perfect fit to collaborate with the Fuji primes. This lens looks to be an optical winner too, knowing Fuji, I’m sure it will be an excellent choice for any creative photographer. But wasn’t the defense of CSC-designs we required less weight & a smaller footprint? Wasn’t this also partly the explanation why Fuji sticked to APS/C-sensors? It feels back like in in 70s when I had my first tele and hardly knew how to get the right grip on my camera. An army of handgrips is standing in the sideline now to restore the full-size SLR proportions. So…aren’t we running around in circles? Maybe the soap-box design isn’t so wrong after all for many professional (zoom & tele-)users.
If you want a small zoom there is already the 18-55 which is quite small. They’ve made their small lenses for those who want a light weight portable kit. Now they are making lenses designed for working professionals. There is something for everyone now. I don’t understand why people are getting upset.
I’m on the fence regarding this lens vs 18-55 and yes, like yourselves run it through a number of scenarios. Based on preliminary reviews:
+ weatherproof
+ 16 vs 18
+ sharper corners
+ slightly less vignetting
– bigger, wider, longer
– needs battery, grip, or wireless flash trigger to balance
– expensive
– lack of OIS
I think if you can deal with the additional size, the benefits compensate for the negatives. Thoughts? And I know you snarky ones can’t wait. Haha.
Waiting for my pre-order here in Singapore. Fuji gallery says 2-Feb, fingers crossed.
It doesn’t feel as big as it appears in the photos. It’s not really heavy. And my god the focussing is fast. Nice bokeh, and seemed to focus quite close in my testing too
Comparing to the very good “kit” lens is no contest when you A/B them. Much faster focus, nice portrait bokeh, and especially that extra 2mm at the wide-end makes a huge difference. I’ve never gotten much value out of a 28mm equivalent focal length, but at 24mm I fall in love.
#1 wish : focal ring had detents at 23 and 35mm
Huuuge
I got mine today. Great lens. Yes, larger than any of the awesome Fuji primes but still feels like a compact setup with the XT-1. I’m not ditching the 23mm or 56mm anytime soon, but this is a great single-lens, high-quality option for us Fuji shooters. Now if Fuji would just do something about the flash system 🙁
