  1. Question: I’m choosing between the Fuji 14mm 2.8 and the Zeiss 12mm 2.8 and, in my country – Romania – the Zeiss is slightly cheaper (20 USD or so cheaper). Which one would you get if, for all intents and purposes, they were sold at the same price? Thx for the input.

    1. I think the Zeiss may be ever so slightly sharper in the corners wide-open, but i’m not sure, and of course you use a superwide at F8 mostly and then they’re both basically perfect. So the question is do you like the scale-focus feature of the 14mm, or do you value the additional wide view of the 12mm (which is not always better or easier for the photograph).

21mm equiv is a punch more than a good wide wide, but 18mm equivalent i think you can call Super wide. The difference is quite noticeable, but up to taste if you like/need it.

Also, the resale value of the Zeiss is probably better.

Personally i think 14mm is wide enough (and here, certainly expensive enough).

    2. For the same price, I wouod go with Zeiss. Mostly for the 12 vs 14, not Zeiss vs Fuji.

Also, since i already own a wonderful Voigtlander 15mm a 12, 15, and 18-55 is all i would ever need. But, personally i want the Fuji 10-24 zoom and will sell my 15mm to help pay when that day comes.

  2. Most X-Pro1 users would probably prefer the 14mm lens, as it’s still usable with the OVF. The 12mm isn’t. Don’t need the OVF? Then better get an X-E1 instead. Looking at Fuji’s lens roadmap, it’s clear to me that they want all of their own primes to be OVF compatible. Hence offerings between 14mm and 60mm only. Primes are X-Pro territory, zooms are X-E territory. Of course, this strategy may change in the future.

    1. And if you think about it 21mm to 90mm equiv is pretty generous range for a rangefinder-style camera. Most Leicas don’t go that wide and stop at 28mm as the widest option.

I’m extremely curious about OVF in X-Pro2. I actually would rather trade widest end for higher magnification at 23mm. I wonder if they’ll announce 23mm together with new Pro body and optimized support for it.

    2. Thank you For this insight Rico….I own the XE1 myself but I’m sure a lot of XPro owners may not know that about the OVF with zeiss 12mm. Always good to see constructive help from those in-the-know.
