New images of the XF 23mm f/1.4 leaked

 photo fuji_xf23_f14_01_zps258e0e38.jpg

Over 1 month ago I’ve already posted the first image of the upcoming XF 23mm f/1.4 here. Now digicame-info was able to get more images about the next Fuji prime here (tranlsation). As we already know, the lens comes with distant scale and has a filter tread of 62mm. The lens should be announced in a few days.

As you know from this FR-post here, the UK store ParkCameras is taking preorders on the 23mm, 10-24 and 56. The 23mm price there is of £679, £50 cheaper than the [shoplink 12888]XF 14mm[/shoplink]. The most expensive XF lenses at ParkCameras are the 56 and 10-24.

And here is how this lens looks like on the X-PRO1.

P.S.: Stay tuned on Fujirumors via facebook, twitter and RSS feed. The IFA in Berlin is ready to start!

cheers
Patrick

  1. Looks like another push-pull for A/M focus. Really wish they stick with 52mm filter thread.

Darn it Fuji, just take my money!

      1. yes it’s written on the front ring.
BTW I prefer 62 over 52 mm. A larger front lens, generally mean, less vignetting.

        1. I don’t get it either, the front element is not so large. My old Pentax lenses are 49mm. All of them. Very little vigneting on FF. Current Pentax Limited are also 49mm.

Is it because of the AF motors in the lens?

          1. It also depends on the design : a pancake has a smaller front element, but in general, their aperture are not so wide.

  2. It is so beautiful. I know it is not going to be huge like some people said based on 56mm’s markup. I am going to sell my 35mm and get this. Wish it is actually f/1.2

  3. Well this is a nice lens. We have all been waiting for it. Lets hope the price tag is not to high. Size wise I would say it is about the same size as the 35mm 1.4 lens.
I will be getting one, that is for sure.

    1. After carefull examination of the posted pics, I actually think it’s larger than the 35mm – almost 1 cm taller and 0,5 cm thicker.

Don’t question my methodology – it was actually very scientific: I stack a ruler to my display 😉 But after trying it out on a couple of other Fuji lenses I found I shouldn’t be more than 5% off!

    1. The bottom also says “Super”, it’s just harder to see because of the reflection. You can almost make it out if you look hard enough.

  4. This is the lens that could finally convert me to the Fuji XF Mirrorless system, looks great, very much looking forward to some reviews.

  5. Ah, the missing piece is finally there.
I really hoped for a bit uniformity in filter thread, but OK, I suppose you can’t have it all for a reasonable prize.

  6. with the sony nex FF coming i really lost all interest in in it…. will switch to sony, i need a wider angle of view…

    ???

  8. Was hoping this would be a kit lens for an X-Pro2 or X-E2

Assuming they would actually create a new kit lens.

Maybe the XF 10-24mm or XF 56mm?

    1. The XE-1 has a kit lens…it’s the 18-55 OIS. I don’t think a fixed prime makes for a good kit lens, since the general idea is to provide a lens that covers a wider application range.

    1. And yet, the Sony 24/1.8 is almost exactly the same size as the Fuji 24/1.4, despite being 2/3 stop slower. I’ve tested the 24/1.8 and shot with it for a week. It’s a very good lens, but it isn’t exceptional, as much as some people would like to convince you otherwise. Corners aren’t super sharp, even stopped down.

Pic of the 24/1.8 and Fuji 23/1.4, scaled based on filter ring sizes using per pixel measurements..Fuji’s a little fatter, but the same length. Not bad for a considerably faster lens: http://www.admiringlight.com/2013/fujisony23.jpg

  9. I really don’t care if this lens looks like a banana or a jellyfish once it is launched, as long as it performs. To me this is the missing link in the X-series and I might just preorder this once it’s available, even if I usually hold back a bit and wait for performance-based reviews.

Some people might say: Why not just buy the X100S?

Well… I like having interchangeable lenses, and that extra full stop of light (+ slightly shallower dof) is not bad either. And given that the next iteration of the X-series bodies will surely have even better autofocus it makes more sense to me to expand upon an existing, flexible system that works.

    1. >Some people might say: Why not just buy the X100S?

Unfortunately for us, Fujifilm are probably thinking the same thing. They’ll make sure to price it high enough not to compete with X100S sales.

      1. It certainly will be more expensive when you factor in the body that is required. I have a verbal pre-order already in place at Henry’s. much to my very pleasant surprise, Henry’s has had stock on new items even before some big US dealers.

Love this site, will stop back with comments once I have it 🙂

        1. Did Henry’s give you a price, or at least hint at a ballpark figure?

I’m hoping $799 max, but I fear it may be higher.

  10. Looks good to me. I’ll add this one to the collection. As Mads said, the interchangable lenses for my money win over the smaller footprint of the X100S. I love my 18-55mm but sometimes you just need that bit extra that the 35mm gives. Throw a 23mm anf 56mm in there and its perfect.

  11. Sold! Very happy to see the nice push/pull ring of the well made 14mm lens, as well as the distance scale. Well done, Fuji! Crossing my fingers on the bokeh.

  12. Ive dreamed about the X-pro1+23mm combo since its release… But I tried it in the store, (with the 35mm lens) and its just to freaking large! If Im going to carry a large camera Id rather just take my Pentax 67 and get medium-format depth of field.. BUT Im really looking to Fuji with great interest and looking forward to future releases as Im tired of the bulkiness of my Nikon FF gear. Fuji has really hit a sweet spot with the X-series.

  13. I really hope Fuji have learned their lesson from past launches and built up a considerable stock of this lens. I foresee orders for going viral, regardless of price.

  14. Really looking forward to the 23mm and next quarters release of the 56mm. As a recent Fuji convert I’m just blown away with the image quality of the X-pro1 + 35mm combo straight out of the camera compared to the 5D Mark II. Wish battery life was the same but the size/weight tradeoff is well worth it. I was planning on living with a dual Fuji/Canon set up for a while but I think I’ll be offloading the rest of the Canon gear soon.

    1. Sony – “obliterate who?”
Sony will not try to obliterate Fuji, since it profits from manufactering Fuji sensors.
Anyway, Fuji will not last the following years because it’s camera sales are almost zero.

      1. Fuji is a large company, and unlike Sony, will probably not drop a camera line if it is “underperforming” based on corporate needs. Saying that Fuji’s sales are “almost zero” is also a silly thing to say, since Fuji has been having trouble manufacturing X bodies and lenses fast enough. Hence the new factory they are building. I’d give the X line at least as much chance of being around in 5 years as Sony’s nex line.

        1. @Alan: thank you for responding sensibly. I get tired of reading the soothsayers with their tarot cards predicting Fuji’s demise based on nothing more than personal opinion.

    2. Sony sells gadgets made of plastic with fiddly knobs and buttons. The RX1 is an
awesome camera when it comes to IQ but looks like a toy… They can not beat the sexieness of a
      x100(s) or X-Pro1! 😉

  15. This is the most importent lens and I will be more than happy to hold it in my hand. It was a tough time not to by a 35mm again for my DSLR … now I can wait, and hopefully not to long…

  16. Looks well and good and I’m glad they are tracking pretty much to their roadmap. I’m more concerned that the roadmap doesn’t look like it’s getting any longer.

  17. Looks good, agree with the first couple of comments my only concern is do you not think that the dof scale looks very close for what is a 23mm lens. You can normally focus a lens with that focal length somewhere in the middle so that at f8 everything will be in focus. Are the markings to conservative?
