  1. Finally one that’s actually for mirrorless? Awesome, these SLR lenses converted to X mount were quite pointless. Might be a very nice alternative to Fuji’s 14/2.8 or Zeiss 12/2.8. Manual Focus i assume, but that’s not a bad thing for a superwide. 🙂

  2. Don’t care about these Samyangs…I care about 10-24,56mm…and may be some 85mm. Zeiss will release 85/1.8 for Sony Nex,I hope we will have 85/1.4 at the same price or even cheaper 😀

  3. I am happy to hear that this lens was not a rumor mixup with the 10mm f/2.8. The wide angle and the full stop of extra light will be good for night skies, which is why this lens is interesting for me. Good stuff. Looking forward to this – especially if it is designed for mirrorless, so the lens itself is not too heavy.

  4. For manual shooters, any Samyang deserves your attention. They offer the highest price/performance out there at the moment.

    1. That is right dCartier…Samyang are some of the finest lenses out there.

They are just superb little gems. (Please note: I’ve only use the wide angles.) Click on my name or Google me and see some of the shots I’ve taken home with Samyang on m43 and FujiX.

The problem with the Zeiss and Fuji 10-24 is they have no distance settings for zone focus. I wouldn’t want them even for free. (OK, I take them for free, ebay it and buy Samyangs and Fuji bodies)

I love Zeiss glass for Leica, but they are trad lenses not the new school designs by camera fondlers that have no idea how to do good street shooting. Same with the Fuji 14. Fantastic IQ, but it has many problems I’ve mentioned before that make it poor for street shooters.

I can’t wait to replace my Fuji 14 with a Samyang 12. I have to use gaffers tape to keep my Fuji’s aperture ring in place. Just terrible engineering Fuji. Focus by wire… distance scale gets covered by focus ring…those crazy aperture rings loose, wobbly and no f stop markings…I hate shooting with Fuji lenses.

      But what is the choice? A $7000 Leica?? ( …multiply x 4)

While I use superwides a lot for zone focus, you don’t have to just go wide for zone focus. All these oldies were zone focus shots with a normal lens on an old Nikon F…

I used to use my little M43 zone focus as well. That was before I got into Fuji fulltime.

Even the old SWC was zone (guesstimate) focus…OK, I could take my time, but still zone.

Isn’t it something how all the old masters produced such iconic photos with nothing more than zone focus, a shutter dial and F stop ring? They didn’t have AF, on the fly ISO, anti shake, auto exposure, live view and review and all the other complexities of modern cams. Unless you taking specialized sports pix or flying birds, all that garbage just weighs you down.

The only complaint I have against Samyang is they are soooo slow in bringing product to market.

      Fuji + Samyang =

    1. The other true mirrorless lens “Samyang 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fish-eye” is 217g, and the Fujinon 14/2.8 is strangely only 235g as well, and the Zeiss 12/2.8 is 270g. The Samyang is F2 of course, but probably plastic.

  5. While the 8mm fisheye is 217 grams, the 10mm will be 740 grams!! The Fujinon 18-55mm is only 310g in comparison. Who can explain to me the more then triple weight???

  6. I think a lot of people will regret the 10-24 its so huge and the samyang 12mm f2 is tiny. id take the samyang any day. and focus at that mm is not needed anyway.
