Mirrorlessrumors confirms: a weather sealed X is coming in January!

 photo fujci_zpsed61407a.jpg

the weather sealed X could have a FujicaST-like design

Hi

I’m glad to hear that my buddy Ale of mirrorlessrumors can confirm here rumors spread on FR already back in October: the weather sealed X will come in January.

I know, many expected the newly released 10-24 to be already weather sealed. But it isn’t. So some readers started to doubt rumors posted on FR.

Therefore I’m happy to read that also mirrorlessrumors can confirm it now… it will come, in January!

I tell you, if a weather sealed X is what you’ve waited for, then start to save your money.

If there is anyone out there who can tell me more about the weather sealed X (or any other X-gear), please contact me at fujirumor@gmail.com or also completely anonymously via rumor box.

Here are the specs until now:

  • bigger and better EVF
  • APS-C X-Trans II
  • double SD-card slot
  • weather sealed body
  • launch in January
  • price range between X-E and X-PRO line
  • FujicaST-like design

cheers

  1. Weather sealed Fuji, awesome. However, I’m pretty sure that there are no weather sealed lenses. Let me double check….nope, not weather sealed lenses as of now. One can only hope that this camera launches with a decent sealed prime or zoom.

  2. Would this DEFINITELY not be an XPRO…seems crazy that they would crank out yet another new camera instead of simply improving ones they have. (no word out there on the xpro 2 ???)

    1. A zoom, probably.

I think that or a zoom with more range, preferable one with constant aperture, even if it’s f/4 or a normal zoom but with brighter aperture, like a 16-50 f/2.8.

  3. All looks great except for the hump. A big departure for the clean x-series line, that made is so appealing to me, and to many others.

I’d be curious to see a hump vs. no hump poll…

    1. Pretty sure Patrick did one just a little while ago… As I recall, the results were overwhelmingly inline with both of our preferences: No Hump Please Fuji!

  4. Without lenses, I still don’t see the point?

My only big interest right now is getting focusing right. Sounds like this will be on par with the X-E2 if it’s the X-Trans II… so I’ll just pick up the X-E2 for now, I guess.

  5. Maybe a weathersealed (FF?) fixed lens one? I still don’t get the point of it without any weathersealed lenses… Maybe they will release it with a weathersealed Standard-Zoom like Oly did with the OMD E-M5 and that’s it. The only thing why I would regret my X-E2 purchase would be if it has a flip-screen 😉

  6. Don’t like this style, but let’s wait for the release. I agree with some others that a good grip is important!

I guess a weather sealed lenses with come together with this camera, likely to be 18-105 or 18-135 mm.
My only hope is that the X-E2 price will drop a lot by that time.

  7. Please please please, give me a Fujifilm X-Pro2 with the big fast hi-res EVF, even greater AF speed, a 24mp APS-C X-Trans II (or III), even better high ISO, wifi (to shoot tethered if needed) using the same X-Pro1 design (or really similar) and I will not ask for anything else ever after… for the next few months or so! lol… 😉

  8. +1

Plus ability to use addon VF shade/cup for sunny day shooting. Had it on my OM-D and it was more than nice…

PS – Patrick, I know the captcha is necessary, but yours is flakey…

  9. It would be quite funny if it turned out that the 14 and 23 mm were already weather sealed from day one without us knowing about it.

    1. That’s not so far fetched, actually. Officially, all Nikkor lenses are considered weather sealed. Nikon does not make any official statement of just how WELL weather sealed they are. There is no indication from build quality that the Fuji lenses, at least the XF lenses, could not be just as well weather sealed, as say, a Nikkor 24-105mm or similar zoom. Not “let’s shoot in a waterfall” weather sealing, but, “we expect rain not to break our cameras” level weather sealing is realistically possible.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up about it, but, I also wouldn’t be shocked if they made such a claim.

      1. They are not weather sealed (Nikkor lenses) but all new G lenses come with a rubber gasket around the mount that gives some measure of dust and moisture protection. Do Fuji lenses have a rubber gasket around the mount?

  10. A sealed/underwater X100 would make way more sense, unless they are introducing new lens roadmap with weather proofed lenses. But frankly I wouldn’t be in the market… I basically have a full kit and can’t afford to start over again.

    1. So, as an inteligent adult that you are, you should just go play with other adults, it’s so mature to be here picking on children. I mean, Fuji has no plan for a FF for at least a year, so just go be an adult somewhere else, why is adult here playing in this kindergarden?

    2. Actually quite a few people care about full frame, but comments like “APS-C is for children” are for children.

    3. Olympus has expensive “profession” line now on M43.

APS-C is a good balance of form factor and image quality, and Fuji is matching Olympus on price, which is quite good value.

  11. People should calm down a bit, you don’t even know about lenses or not, no point in complaining about not having lenses before the announcement. It’s hard to think that Fuji would launch a weather sealed body with no lens, I don’t get why betting on that and complaining so soon as opposed to speculate what lens should come with it. My guess is a zoom with more range, even better if it has constant aperture, even if it’s a f/4 or maybe a normal zoom with brighter aperture.

    1. Nobody is going to understand those posting on the net……

Yeah, I would guess the same. Hopefully something like the CZ 16-70 F4 for Sony E. That lens would be much more appealing to me than the 18-55 if it has the same quality.

      But I doubt that I can afford the new kit… 🙁 … 😛

    1. It may be necessary to use a hump in order to fit in a larger, brighter, higher-res EVF. In which case, I’m all for it. However, I use an a7r, which is a crap camera to use in every respect as it pertains to fast, manual focus of old lenses. It has a largish EVF (much larger than the X Pro), but is a disaster.

If Fujifilm can keep the EVF ON even when the eye is not near it, it will help the camera feel like a real camera. The a7r turns off and on and off and on. Auto detect doesn’t work correctly as if you change from landscape to portrait, it goes on and off as you have it at your eye…

If Fujifilm do this, I hope they add an ISO dial. I will welcome this with open arms if the EVF is good enough to somewhat make me forget that I’m using a computer in a box.

  12. A 16-80mm f4 weather sealed lens would be a perfect match for this new camera. I’d like it to have the same style and feel as the 18-55mm and 55-200mm.

  13. Knowing fuji it need a dozen firmware updates to get the weather sealing working right.

Useless company, I just sold my xpro and lenses, gone back to a real camera system rather than this overpriced half baked toy.

    1. Because a firmware update will make a camera weatherproof… Even if this is sarcasm I would call it a”half-baked” attempt at humor.

  14. Let’s be honest here. it is not based on the Fujica design. This new Fuji, and the retro Sony and Nikon FF, are all copying the look (retro hump) of the Olympus OM-D series. Once again Olympus leads the way.

    1. Olympus isn’t “leading” squat. Fuji, Sony (Minolta) Nikon, Canon, etc..all had relevent SLR pentaprism designs back in the 60’s-70’s.

        1. Zeiss (as Contax) specifically. But, the “hump” is merely shaped based on the pentaprism which is hardly a meaningful design contribution.

          1. That is true. The hump is merely part of the technology of an SLR. But the japanese neither invented the SLR nor the rangefinder. They copied both designs slavishly for decades from German camera makers. Then, when they were willing to cheapen the designs enough to capture the market, they bathed in the praise of what became known as the ‘Japanese camera’, which was not their design. Neither the lens work nor the body work. All copies never paid to the original designers.

Same with cars and much much more.

  15. Trix are for kids, and fast zooms are for DSLRs 😉
Bring on more primes. The roadmap will be complete in Jan. 2014, so mabe a new updated one is coming? How about a 23mm f2 (yes I know there is one on the X100s, and as great as the 23mm f1.4 is, it’s too large for my uses). And a 90mm f2.

  16. Way to go fanboy…spreading nonsense on the web, like usual. Treating M4/3 like its a cult. And, like the rest of the nonsense your claiming, the Nikon DF is nothing like the OM-D; and I bet this camera will have a far better design and feel than the OM-D.It is what it is – your camera is small, has some nice lenses and features, and a small sensor. Who cares – live with what you have and, if you feel the need to promote some company, perhaps you should do so with your images, rather than with false or misleading statements.

  17. Let’s hope it will have better survivability than cheaper weathersealed compacts from Fuji – like XP line. They have pretty bad record for that – and easily become yet another electronic bricks…

  18. Ok is one day before Christmas and every one wish something, byt be pro and come down
i wish to have the 56mm f1.2 soooooon and for this camera faster focus between one shot to the next one (like dslr) and Fuji stay close to pro, photographer and CONTINUED with better cameras

Have a nice Christmas every body

    1. Maybe the 56mm/1.2 will be the first weather-sealed lens? That’d blow smoke up the Oly team. I’d jump only if it was that and/or a 24-70mm/2.8 equivalent. A mid-range f4 zoom? Waste of time.
And if they do insist on using the X-Trans II again, make sure that the lenses come with faster AF motors. The X100s is barely any better than the X100 when it comes to AF speed and, more annoyingly, accuracy. If it weren’t for the great IQ and size, I’d ditch the bitch. Let’s hope we get all we’re asking for!

  19. The only lens I ideally wanted to be fully weather sealed with this sealed body was the 10-24 f4 UWA zoom as my relatively light weight setup for high IQ landscapes and long exposures.
I’m happy with my em1 + 12-40 and other lenses for other stuff due to its speed, responsiveness and good IQ. Traveling in areas with cold or humidity and also the sudden downpour of rain shouldn’t be a reason why one puts an expensive camera and lens away out of fear it will no longer work.
I was so disappointed when I read the press release of the 10-24 and found no mention of it being weather sealed. I’ve never been on a single holiday trip were I haven’t for at least one day experienced bad weather and obviously all but the sealed equipment had to be packed away.

    1. I wouldn’t say “had to be”. I’ve used my t2i and Tamron 17-50 in -10 degree blizzards and extreme downpour with no issues!

  20. but I think it’s not something between x-e models and x-pro models. There are currently no weather proof lens available – personally think it will be a slight upgrade version of x100s with a fixed lens.

I’d love a weather proof x camera…but the bump is really not neccessary. I mean come on, it’s not even a OVF and EVF hybrid design, what’s the point of the extra chunk?

    1. I fully agree with you! Everybody is concerned about the lack of weather sealed lenses… but Fuji might actually be up to a fixed lens weather-sealed camera (maybe with a 23mm lens, like the popular X100/S).

  21. It’s really a wonder how people think:
it seems Fuji is giving us more choice, with a different design and weather sealing, and obviously implying the arrival of weather sealed lenses…we should be happy to have our system expanding .
And guess what? You read all the cmmens and 99% o them are complaints or wishes for something diferent…it really looks like 3 yer old kids with their toy, never happy and always looking for the next and nicer one just after having opened the last present.
At times it is interesing reading the comments: funny ones, intresing and informative ones, more often just arguing like small kids about who has the bigger and better toy…but this time it’s just all negative!
    Cheer up boys!

  22. By he way, Patrick: the captcha thing is really annoying.
9 out of 10 times it tells me “incorrect captcha” and resets the page, deleting my comment…and I have to do it all over again – which obviusly I mostly don’t!
I’m sure I’m typing the captcha correctly, so it is a glitch with the system.
I think you should look into it.
    Anyway, Merry Christmas!!

P.S.: it’s the third – no, fourth now – time I’m trying to enter this comment…

  23. I’m not interested in a weather-sealed Fuji X camera without weather-sealed lenses to go with it. I’m waiting for the X-Pro 2, and X200 or X200s. Until they are released, my trusty X100 will have to do.

      1. This is the second time you go on about firmwares with Fuji cameras…which are improving out of production cameras all the time, together with current ones.
Why don’t you go troll somewhere else?

      2. Got to agree with Kasseem. The X-Pro, while not a quick camera for any sort of work, is far less buggy than the Sony a7r, and I’m sure that will remain the norm for ever. Even the D800 has ‘quirks’ that turn the camera off unexpectedly and freeze it from time to time.

And that is after two years. In that regard, the X-Pro is a better, more reliable camera.

        1. This is completely false (for the a7 anyway) I own both cameras and just took the a7 on a test drive to a wedding with my 5d3. Performed surprisingly well. Photos on my blog soon. I’ve tried the x-pro 1 as a second body at weddings and it’s focus was just not working well for the different scenarios you usually go through for a full wedding. While it’s a great camera, it just needs SPEED.

          1. I have no qualms with the output of the a7r, which I also use. It just isn’t a well-designed camera. The EVF constantly turning off/on, the shutter button that lacks a half-stop hard stop, the impossibility to reliably use the camera even with thin gloves, the ridiculous menu system, the weak flaps and poor quality screen bezel… the list goes on and on.

I love its output, but that is all I love about the a7r. It is ridiculously loud and poorly built for its price. Remember, this is Sony, not a high quality company. They cannot charge luxury prices because they are not a luxury company. Fuji are closer to that platform, but still are in no way the company that can pull the stops they want.

          2. You’re comparing two cameras that were released at different times.

Also, X-Pro was the first of the X-Series. Many iterations since.

Sony had to start somewhere, too.

      3. I have to disagree about the allegedly poor Fuji firmwares… that’s no true! And I say this as a owner of a D800E, which could benefit considerably from a new firmware update, if only Nikon would dare releasing one (last one dates back to I don’t even remember when). That’s notorious of Nikon: they release basically very few firmware updates and only to fix serious bugs, not certainly to introduce new features!

I wouldn’t complain about Fuji! They do an excellent job in listening to their customers and trying to improve their products! Hats off to Fuji for that…

I’m sure I’ll be able to enjoy my X-E2 and the great XF lenses more than I’ve ever experienced with my D800E!

  24. Greetings,
I was a happy recipient of the x100s for Chistmas (a gift to myself 🙂
I have wanted one for a while as I shoot a Nikon D800 for paid gigs
And have all but stopped shooting for the love of shooting which is a shame.
The D800 with a 27-70 or even a prime is a lot to carry around and folks really
Do not seem to be down when I point it at them!

So, I pulled the plug and ordered the x100s. That’s when I discovered fujirumors and
My head started spinning particularly after reading this post. My question is do you really think there is a chance that fugi would put out a weather sealed x200 or the likes on Jan. 20? Or perhaps a black x100s anniversary edition! Ha, I wonder if I should return to bhphoto and wait it out. But also want to take the x100s out for a test spin but don’t want to trip the shutter too much or I won’t be able to return it.
Ahhhh, luxury problems… Any thoughts? Be easy on me as I am new here and this is my first post
    Happy Holidays to all.

    1. I don’t think the black edition of the X100S coming in January will be weather sealed… so enjoy your self-made gift and start to take some great photographs
