The rumored X100 firmware update finally becomes reality! It’s time to give your good old X100 a new life. Download the latest firmware 2.0 here and enjoy all the improvements introduced with this big firmware update.

Now, are you impressed with the new, fresh software-look of your X100? Share your findings on Fujirumors… and don’t forget to spread the word on facebook and twitter.

So, Fujifilm, 130,000 thank you! Keep it up with your Kaizen-spirit!

NOTE: If you have problems to see the firmware ver. 2.00 then you probably have to clean the cache! The easiest way is described in Rico’s X-pert corner post “Tips for Updating your Firmware”: “just delete your browser cache or force your browser to reload and refresh the page by, for example, holding the Alt or Option key while clicking on Reload.”

have a great day
Patrick

  1. …but there’s some kind of bug in close distance AF…

If we’re getting closer than standard distance (without macro) it focusing really close. If we’re too close then even after step up a bit it won’t focus till the standard distance is reached.
Just AF goes to long distance and stays there.

    …with MF that’s finally it!

With manual movie mode I’ll be in heaven 🙂

  2. Just installed. It works pretty well so far. AF in low light seems much improved. MF works waaaay better, and the peaking is nice. General operation feels faster. I’m super pleased. On the closer focus, it only works with the EVF or LCD, not the optical. I need to move back about 4-6 inches when using the OVF. I can’t remember if that’s true in the old firmware…

    Overall very pleased so far.

  3. The better, I think, is the AF improvement. It is noticeable. Now is a really fast camera. The turn-on process is improved also, but it is not as impressive as the Af performance.
And also, the focus peaking feature, with the EVF, is a good new function. But the Q function is better (for the 3.0 version 😀 ).
Thanks to Fuji, they are taken care of their clients, more than other brands.

    1. + 1,
especially for faster AF & MF ring with focus peaking. The Q menu on 3.0 version (2.1 version if you don’t want to wait too long) would be very helpful, hahaha…

  4. Just tried to install on my Fuji X100. I get the error message “this firmware is not for this device”. Anybody else? Have version 1.21 currently installed.

  5. Shame no “Q” button. I actually asked Fuji for one about 6 months back, and they replied that they were considering it then. If you would like one, I find it so useful, please let Fuji know.

  6. A little late for work this morning in anticipation of upgrading my X100 🙂 and then had to have a little play – certainly seems more responsive and I would say the AF is quicker… not too sure about the closer focusing

    More play at lunchtime hopefully….

  7. OK, downloaded firmware straight to SD card. Had to change all my settings back. Now can’t get level or grid back in EVF, only shows on LCD. Not happy about that. Playing with focus peaking, looks OK, and now manual focus moves much faster, now usable.

  8. Seems that the focus ring sensitivity was also improoved. Chapeau!
Thank you Fuji! Perhaps a “final”update with red focus peaking?
Leica can do it, I’m sure you can do it asswell becouse Kaizen!

    1. It would be nice but difficult to see Fujifilm bringing a new firmware update for the X100. If so I would like to see the option to use the focus selector as in the X100s ( MF/AF-C/AF-S ) and I wouldn’t mind the letters mismatch.

  9. AF definitely feels faster, noticed it right away, and manual focus ring actually works now!! Woot!

I have the level and grid options on in my evf, and they’re right there under custom display settings… Actually came back on by default with the update, had to go back in to the menu specifically to turn the level off…

  10. Nice upgrade! It would have been nicer if the upgrade process applied all of your existing settings to the new firmware but it doesn’t. Focus seems slightly faster and I like the extended range of the non-macro mode.

  11. Just downloaded the file and will install it this afternoon.
As a matter of curiosity, some Fujifilm people said they were fine tuning the update and would release it as soon as it was ready but looking at the file information it says the last change and opening were on September 19.
    Any ideas about this?

    1. They probably wanted to wait until the XE2 launch day so that everything came out at the same time. New firmware is a bit like getting a new camera – so I’m very happy to have waited.

      1. So do I, and I think that’s the reason and with or without waiting Fujifilm gave us something difficult (would say impossible) to get from other manufacturers.

    2. It probably has to do with the fact that the release version of any software needs to go through a fairly elaborate and complex QA process. It needs to be tested in all kinds of situations to make 100% sure that everything works as expected and that there are no major unexpected bugs before it gets shipped. If they had found a major bug, they would have had to fix it and then go through the entire testing process again. It’s not like a developer just presses the “compile and link” button and then they instantly push the resulting file out to the public.

  12. After the first test, I have to say this is a spectacular improvement! Such a great move from Fujifilm, this is definitely something that most companies would not have done.

But is it just me or does the new AF algorithm (which definitely feels a lot faster) work better with the OVF turned on than it does in EVF/LCD mode? Especially at close range? I seem to be getting the red box a lot in OVF mode. Switch to EVF with no change to the framing, and it instantly turns green when I try to focus.

I also do wish the focus peak highlights would have come in a color that is easier to see on the image than black/white, but hey, we can’t have everything.

Manual focusing is definitely very much improved as well, I am now actually going to use that feature. Must have been quite an engineering challenge given that the sensor for the focus ring has a much lower resolution than on the X100s. But they pulled it off.

So hats off to the team at Fujifilm, this is an amazing update! My X100 just got about 50% better and just feels faster overall. Thank you very much!!!

    1. Interesting about the OVE/EVF for close focusing, and yes, confirmed. Using the EVF allows you to focus much closer than the OVF. Interesting considering we know that the macro mode forces you to switch to EVF… maybe there’s a hardware issue here?

And on herstal’s comments as well, yes there are places I cannot get focus in OVF that I do get focus in EVF. It does seem AF just generally works better in that mode.

  13. After many tests, AF improvements are in the EVF. OVF is just the same. Maybe it’s all we can get from a firmware update. The OVF is also very important to me…

  14. So it says that the file size should be 32.2 MB and I have downloaded it three times at 33.9 MB. Should I be worried? Caches cleared already.

  15. After downloading, the FPUPDATE-1.DAT file is 33.9mb and not the 32.2 that the install directions specify.

When I get it on the card and turn the camera on I get the message “NEW FIRMWARE NOT BE FOUND (sic)”

I’ve re-downloaded – same issue. Has anyone else encountered this? What’s the fix?

    1. Fixed. I had a previous download of a firmware file on my desktop causing the new file to rename with the -1.DAT extension.

      All is well now!

    1. When in OVF mode press the DISP/BACK button and if you marked the histogram it must show, the same goes to other information and facilities as the grid or the horizon green line.

    1. When you go through the menus – Shooting Menu -> Disp. Custtom Setting -> OVF ->Histogram – do you have the Histogram’s box marked?

I faced this doubt the first time I updated the firmware (from version 1.0) and I was fearing to have got it wrong until I found the solution in the User Manual. And yesterday I didn’t recall it in the fly but I pressed the right button at the second attempt and it works just fine.
