  1. @Bob G
    actually it will not.
Adorama’s updating system is a little bit slower – it’s not in real time.
But if you order, you’ll receive message (probably the next day) that your item is on backorder status.

    1. @St, just a little humor — but it will be interesting to see how long it stays as “in stock..” Here’s hoping some U.S. folks here get their X20s soon. Mine is on order from a different store with shipping expected next week.

      1. Yep, I got it.
But I was always a bit pissed about this ‘feature” from otherwise excellent “Adorama experience”. You order something because it’s IN STOCK, and then you receive an e-mail that it is not. Sometimes they never change it live.

I don’t expect huge “backorder” period for the Fuji’s. X100S can hold about a month. X20 will be in stock I think.
I think Nikon D800 and Sony NEX-7 lead in the “backorder” war so far.
        🙂

        1. While we don’t currently have live inventory updates we are looking at how to implement this.
We agree with you 100% that it would be great if we could show immediate stock updates and apologize for any disappointment that this has caused.
Unfortunately this happens when an item is unexpectedly popular and the orders we receive outpace our website’s inventory update system.

When there is a greater demand for an item than anticipated, and we are already low on inventory and then receive several orders within just a few minutes via the various portals such as BizRate, buy.com, and Amazon, plus via the website, the ‘phones and in store, it isn’t immediately obvious to our stock-keeping system which customer is going to be disappointed. This is compounded because we do not ever make a charge until an item has actually shipped.

In addition, in-stock/out-of stock is subject to a number of other variables:
          • most commonly, it can be in-stock ie on a trailer waiting to be unpacked but not yet available for shipping since it has not yet cleared receiving (there is a pre-stocking process that happens before goods hit the shelves) so as it isn’t actually on a shelf an automated back-order email is sent out.
          • it can be en route from the manufacturer – and literally expected within the next day or two.
          • less common; it can be out-of-stock but on order from the manufacturer; in these instances you should expect to see this indicated on the web page

Had this project come to fruition in summer 2011 as we were promised, http://www.prweb.com/rel… we would by now have a much better stock-keeping situation. We are still committed to doing this, but as we are actually a family business, it is going to take us a lot longer than we’d ever dreamed it would.

All that being said, unless there are supply chain shortages about which the manufacturers have not kept us up-to-date, it is unusual for out-of-stock items not to appear back into our inventory within 10 days of a customer placing a back-order. (Pre-orders for new items are a separate issue).

In addition, if there is an urgent requirement for a back-ordered (as opposed to a new, pre-ordered) item it may be possible to arrange drop-shipping directly to you.

We will continue to work towards a solution to improve the response time or our inventory updates, and hope that you will continue to enjoy purchasing from Adorama.

I hope this helps, but please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you ever need help with an order from Adorama now or in the future: Helen@adorama.com

  2. Awesome, I just checked my Adorama X100s order status which has been updated to ‘processing’. I just hope they can ship it out by Thursday, so I can use it on trip to Tokyo next week!

    1. I also just called and spoke with an Adorama custormer service rep who confirmed that my X100s order will be shipping out today! Will receive it by Thursday!!

  3. Pay more one ebay, just to get it faster? Is this kind of a Fuji religion?
It’s certainly a good camera, but it won’t get you salvation or wake the dead…
In the end it’s just a tool and the pictures come from the photographers mind.
And good photographers will also make good photographs with cameras of less quality.

  4. My camera store in Utah called me today to confirm they are shipping to me the Fuji X-100s that I pre-ordered on the day they were first announced so the reported U.S. invasion of the X-100s has, indeed, begun! It should be a fun weekend ahead.

    1. Allen: I got an Amazon email today saying it’s now pushed back.

      New Delivery Estimate: April 12, 2013 – April 24, 2013

      Ugh.

  5. B&H preorder now showing as being prepped for shipping. Just under their holiday closing, too.
    Black showed as in stock.
