Nice. But you need to have a generous budget and a strong passion for manual focus lenses. What I don’t have is the budget.
wow, Striking resemblance. you & me 😛
For the price of a Sony Alpha 7 with a full frame 35mm f/1.4 lens. Granted, the light gathering abilities is still better with this one, but there’s also an advantage with a secondary body. :p
Isn’t that just a rebranded Chinese lens?
The prototype of Meyer-Optik Görlitz 35 mm f/0,95 Nocturnus (1,999 €) was a rebadged Zhong Yi Optics Mitakon 35 mm f/0,95 Speedmaster (799 $).
For the final product, they have slightly changed the casing (hence the “Made in Germany” since the final assembly is probably taking place there) so it’s a ‘recased’ more than a ‘rebranded’ Chinese lens ;).
Still an embarrassing try to make easy money with zero innovation.
Although I agree, let’s give M-G the benefit of the doubt and say that the original optical design was one made by them in the 1950’s (or thereabouts) and that the Chinese copied it.
A 35mm f/0.95 optical formula for APS-C cameras designed in the 1950s?…
Yeah. You take a lens designed for “full frame” that has poor corner performance, slap it on a camera with APS-C sensor and suddenly you have rather good corners.
Seriously, what I wrote I did not write as fact, but as a fictional truth for the benefit of Meyer-Optik.
A fictional truth… That’s as interesting a concept as a 35mm f/0.95 optical formula designed in the 1950s 🙂
An example of a fictional truth would be “equivalent full-frame focal length”. Nearly everyone accepts this as fact, but actually there is no such thing. Hence it is a fictional truth.

looks the same and triple the price
If even Meyer Görlitz can make 2000€-lenses for such a “niche product” (according to Sigma) like the Fuji X-Mount why not Sigma!?! Just do it guys!
If this lens is as good as or even better than the XF35 I hope it will have some kinda success!
For my budget? Unfortunately too expensive.
> “If this lens is as good as or even better than the XF35 (…)”
Unfortunately, the Mitakon Speedmaster 35 mm f/0.95 is not that good optically, see for instance

Personally I find these really fast lenses of limited use – while it’s great in a dark room, the higher ISO performance is pretty good these days so that’s taken some of the pressure off needing it (though it’s still valuable); for me the narrow depth of field is nifty in some circumstances, and rather a pain in others. And once I’ve stopped down to f4-8, well, by then a much more inexpensive, lighter lens will perform as well or better. Don’t get me wrong, if $’s weren’t an issue… but it’s hard to make a really fast high-quality lens and I’m not sure I really use it enough, though YMMV. I wonder now how to ask Lightroom to tell me my average f-stop across a collection of pictures….
I think the reason for something like this is the Noctilux-type look of f/.95, not the increased light gathering which as you say is really for edge cases now. If used correctly, the DOF can be quite striking.
As I understood things, pixel shading starts to impact IQ around f/1.1, or is that a variable thing?
Correct, and transmission drop means after f/1.6 you get a little less light per third stop than an actual third stop should give you, on top of the decreased sensitivity after f/1.1.
In other words, though apertures faster than the common f/1.8 do get you more light, it’s rarely the full amount of light the f-stop would suggest, and these fast lenses are mostly for the depth of field control.
the 0.95 is suitable for people who can’t make a decent shot at ‘normal’ f-stops. At least it looks different at 0.95 😉
You all miss the point regards the price, it comes with a free Graphite X-T1 with a full set of accessories, including the Nissin flash unit.
It feels a bit like the Bose of optics: better photos through marketing.
I think its optical qualities do not match its price, but please prove me wrong.
Anyone have image sample comparisons?
Don’t trust german craftsmanship anymore. Can anyone say V W. Just because it says Made in Germany, that doesn’t mean super parasitic so called capitalist speculative cockroaches haven’t sunk their fangs into the company’s/brand’s jugular. Sorry about mixing the metaphors but they’re all apt and acurate. Actually cockroaches would be insulted if they were able. Replace cockroaches with Vampires. My apologies to all the cockroaches out there. I just hope Fuji stays clear of this kind of trickery. CaNikon seems to be well on their ways.
Currently, there seem to be very few trustworthy companies out there, e.g., Tesla, Fujifilm. Can anyone think of any others?
these are rehoused Mitakon lenses (or with custom ordered housing). Nothing makes them any better than the orginal mitakon. I pity the fool who wastes one’s money on them.
