Fujifilm XQ2 coming tomorrow (January 15th) – source was right in the past

 photo asd_zpsdaed3865.jpg

A source, who was right in the past (thanks), just told us that the Fujifilm XQ2 will be announced tomorrow, January 15th.

Normally Fuji annouces new gear at around midnight NY-time. The live blogging is part of my service for you on announcement days and I’ll be ready also this time… for the… Fujifilm XQ2. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see it coming along with the Fujifilm X-A2, but no rumors here for now.

Take a look at the Fujifilm XQ1 in your country. You could find some great deals on it: [shopcountry 17996].

  1. How come you didn’t get any rumor regarding the specs of this camera (especially if it’s released tomorrow)?
Are your sources getting mute? 🙂

With the same size, same or larger x-trans sensor, a bit more manual controls and a brighter lens, I’ll be a customer!

    1. I don’t think it will have a bigger sensor. This would definitely kill sales of the about 4 months young X30. I guess same sensor.

Getting on rumors is not something that happens automatically. Sometimes I can get them, sometimes not, sometimes I’m wrong and sometimes I’m right.

Privately in this moment it’s also a super-stress period (especially because of a project I’ll tell you about in about a month or so… setting it up now). So honestly I tried to focus on high end X-gear talk with sources.

Rumors require a lot.. a lot of email (and sometimes skype) work. Every camera, every spec. If I would have done all the super work for the little XQ2, well… I can not sleep less than I do in these weeks.

      1. You’re probably right about sensor Patrick, but in this case Fuji is moving in the wrong way IMHO, because X30 is already killed by other compact cameras like RX100 mk3 or Pana’s LX100.
Even if they’re a bit more expensive for the moment, they overcome Fuji’s in almost every respect, as pointed in many reviews…

BTW : thanks for your work on this site!

  2. Yes, that’s strange enough…
Maybe upgrade is so minor that they prefer stay mute until release?
    Of course I don’t hope so 😉

  3. does anyone here even care about compacts? Fuji isn’t ever going to make any money on this, they should focus on the enthusiast market they do well in, forget the low ed consumers and the pros, go after the retro loving hobbyist consumer who’s willing to pay for something different.

    1. I love my X10, partly because of EXR’s expanded DR facilities. Not as keen on the OVF as I’d hoped, but I do use it a lot. Give me a compact with an improved X10 sensor (orbless, natch) and the X30 VF, and you’ve got a sale. Probably a lot of sales, given the popularity of the X10, despite its very real flaws.

  4. The problem is if they simply refresh the XQ1, what is the point? The XQ1 was a disappointment due to the competition getting better. 3-4 years ago the XQ1 would have been a smash, just like the S series use to be. Then came the RX100 and the benchmark was raised. If the XQ2 still has the sloooow lens going to f4.9, they are just wasting their time.

    1. They have taken it offline. But nothing new was shown. Same lens, same AF speed (.06s) and mention of Wi-Fi.
