In the fast-moving rumor mill, the Fujifilm X30 is already history. There is no time to lay back in the past and say “hey, I got all the X30 leaked specs right”. I’ll just send a big “THANK YOU” to those sources who shared correct rumors with FR…
… and already start to look ahead to the next camera that should be released by Fujifilm: the X100S successor (rumored to be called Fujifilm X100T).
Yep, there is no time to rest, not even on my holidays ;-).
Now, I got the following information by a trusted source about the X100S successor:
– EVF will have a x0.67 magnification and offer a horizontal apparent field of view of approx. 27°. Biggest EVF in Fuji’s line after X-T1.
This confirms rumors shared back in February, that the X100T EVF would be better than the one on the X-E2 (although not as good as the one on the X-T1)
That’s it for now, take care and feel free to share rumors… that would be a big help in order to make my daily rumor-work a bit easier.
cheers,

Does this mean no more hybrid viewfinder? Otherwise, larger EVF viewing angle would require larger finder optics to match, meaning larger camera body. I’d think either option might be unpopular with fans of the existing X100 series.
(Also, what does ORS mean?)
Other Rumors Site ?
ORS = other rumor site… in this case xjrumo
Yes! I can’t wait…but it BETTER have a hybrid viewfinder or I’m going to just buy an X100S.
You can buy my X10os and I’ll put money towards the x100T 🙂
Fuji…make it BLACK!!!
Viewfinder magnification depends on how you measure it. X100 and X100s already had a magnification of approx 0.70x with a 50mm equivalent lens. This is slightly larger than the XE1 or XE2. It gives a field of view of 26° according to Fuji (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x100s/features/page_04.html ).
The X100T will most likely have the same viewfinder as the X100S. By the way most full frame DSLR have the same magnification. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if Fuji could work on the eye relief, though. With glasses on the corners are difficult to see.
It would be even harder, in the future to come, to choose between X100T and X-Pro2, especially when you already have an X-Pro1.
I have both X100 and X-Pro1. Not hard to choose between X100T and X-Pro2. Buying X-Pro2.
Just depends on your needs / wants and budget. X100/S and X-PRO1 compliment each other very well. No reason the X100T and XP2 shouldn’t compliment each other.
Well, right now, it is a huge difference in terms of performance between X-Pro1 and X100S. And it is in X100S favor.
please…no ts-screen, perhaps overall no screen on the back.
I use it (100s) 0% its always off.
I only look through the hybrid. There are all the infos i need.
no (ts) screen makes the cam thinner, sexier and i have nothing to protect (ok on the back i mean :-)) in the wild, wild street photography.
my words, evf is enough, no more screen needed
And now ladies and gents, we have met the most artistic photographer in history!
On the X100S, I use the LCD a lot for taking shots that are lower or higher than I can reach. Allows for interesting angles and still some basic framing capability.
Keep the LCD, Fuji.
I wouldn’t buy it WITHOUT the tilted screen. People complain about the tilted screen are just not smart
Could you tell me your reason for a screen, especially for a ts.
For photos from the button i lay down, for photos from the hip i know my camera (especially the lens of 100s) and from above….i have not enough phantasy what kind of photos i can make, except of “smartphone-photos” on a festival or whatever.
Perhaps you can help me understanding why i am not smart :-).
I fail to see how anyone can’t see the benefits of a tilted screen! But I can understand if you don’t use the tilted screen! It depends on your photography goals and style!
you are right, it depends on my photography goals and style. You speak about benefits. I see more cons than pros. For me it is important to have no additional dimensions, no mechanical element, perhaps only a smooth backside just like the “good old times” at analog (therefore my thoughts about NO screen).
Perhaps you could tell me some benefits in your daily work that have another goal than the “comfort” not laying in the sludge to make a photo of an ant :-))) . And sure i see the benefits but for me the disadvantages are clearly bigger.
so many x100’s and xe’s and x small sensors and a new slr-x — but no news on any sort of X-Pro 1 successor…. Makes me sad.
Not been paying attention much, have we?
I still use my x100, this might be the cam that I’ve been waiting to upgrade to. I love the optical VF, but the EVF sucks on the X100. This one looks promising.
“T” sure seems to hint at weather sealing too, unless they’re just riding on the popularity wave from the X-T1, which I think would be understandable too.
Maybe I missed some of the marketing copy, but was the ‘T’ in ‘XT-1’ meant to indicate weather sealing?
‘T’ is just the next character after ‘S’ in the alphabet. So it will be the next iteration of x100 cameras: x100 -> x100S -> x100T. Either that or they take the X-T1 and mount a 23mm prime lens onto it. But I doubt that.
Also S is the first letter in “second”. But which word starts with “t” and has anything to do with numbers… help me out.
Sorry, I can’t follow you.
I just meant that FUJI probably uses the letter sequence in the alphabet to name their iterations of the x100 cameras – starting with ‘s’; next one would be the x100’t’.
But it’s just my guess.
Let me spell it out for you. 😉
Yes, ‘T’ follows ‘S’ in the alphabet. Additionally ‘S’ is the first letter in ‘second’ and ‘T’ the first letter in ‘third’. 😉
T for tilt, I bet. But I’m with you. I hope it means tough too
Or Tele? I would die for one 🙂
That list looks very believable. I’m sure the new EVF display will also reorient for vertical shooting too, like the XT1 and X30.
Adding weather sealing and wider exposure bracketing would cap off a very nice update.
Oh, and Fuji, please put the “T” branding on the top plate, not the front corner of the camera as shown in this mockup. Thanks!
Now if your best sources would be willing to leak some information about the X-Pro 2… I don’t need the specs, I only ask will it be announced at PhotoKina 2014? 😉
here is the last update_ http://www.fujirumors.com/fujifilm-x-pro2-unveiled-photokina-available-time-next-year/
Sounds niceish, but I suppose the only gamebreakers to get me to go from my X100S would have to be a wider-aperture lens (1.4 would sell, 1.8 would not) and, much less importantly, wi-fi. Will be watching Photokina – because 35mm 1.4 at 24MP would send me that much closer to ditching my big gear.
Exactly ! You hit the nail on the head 🙂
If it has an EVF like the X-T1, faster AF, and better low light performance, that would do me. f/2 is already pretty fast and f/1.4 would require a much larger lens. Decent video is a must as well, sounds like the x30 has that, so should be easy to implement on the X100T. Never use the HVF so they can bin that as far as I’m concerned.
I believe that X100T will be look like X100S. X20 is beautiful. X30 looks awful. Fuji don’t do the same mistake with X100T.
x30 looks fine to me, matter of taste I guess
x30 looks fine, but x20 looks much much better
The same apart from the viewfinder, or am I missing something?
It’s not the same. It’s looks like Canon Gx.
Does it seem that there will be also a OVF magnification improvement ?
Really starting to get worried that new X100T will be in the same style as X30 without OVF….
I highly doubt the X100T will not have the HVF. The HVF is th X100’s series main selling points.
I wonder if their market research is beginning to show that only a very small minority of users like the HVF, and most would prefer a responsive, high res EVF, and a lower price? I know I would.
Are you most? Or does your market research department tell you that?
Well I don’t know, but the decision to do this on the x30 surely makes you wonder.
There are some very vocal HVF lovers on this forum for sure, but from an engineering point of view, there are some benefits to ditching it as shown by the XT1, which seems to be selling very well.
An EVF certainly has it’s benefits (X-E1 user here). But I had the opportunity to use an X100s for a week. You can say whatever you want about the X-trans, Fuji’s focusing speed or whatever but there is just no way my next camera will not have a HVF. And I don’t see that coming to a Sony. Why should Fuji give up their most distinctive feature in their most popular camera line? THAT would be suicide. Not another X#0 with a 2/3″ sensor that lost it’s OVF due to the 80% coverage and probably high assembly cost. 😉
The EVF in the XT1 is nothing like that in the XE1, you really need to try it to see the difference.
I think you’re confusing x100 and x-e lines
nope, the x-e line doesn’t have a hvf
Obviously, so why would you want it without hvf, if there is already a similarly sized body with only evf for the same price (body + 27mm)
Because I have an x100s, and find I prefer the EVF. The OVF is actually an annoyance as I occasionally accidentally switch it on.
The argument you make is not relevant as a 27mm 2.8 is quite different to a 23mm 2.0. Also I like having the leaf shutter for flash sync reasons.
+ if I wanted to use an OVF, I would have kept my DSLRs which have a much better OVF than the x100s or xpro1.
Granted, I don’t have x100. But HVF has so many advantages to many of enthusiasts who can afford it, that I don’t see the reason to drop it because you occasionally switch OVF on.
35mm and 40mm are identical IMHO. x100 might be better optically, I don’t know.
The above and keep pushing the picture quality. Better ISO performance, its’ still a great advantage of the FF. I feel ok with printing shots at 1600 but 6400 would be better 🙂
I also heard that there would be an ISO dial like the X-T1, is that true? I would really love that, i really don’t see the point of putting an exposure dial again on this one.
That would at least explain the ‘T’ in the name.
“i really don’t see the point of putting an exposure dial again on this one.”
Are you serious? The manual controls are the whole point of it, why discriminate against exposure, the system doesn’t make sense without it or you might as well just get a standard PASM-dial controlled camera.
Adding a ISO dial is just about every serious X100 users wish, but losing the essential exposure dial over it most definitely is not.
Does anyone know if the X100T is going to be made in China like the X30?
More than likely it will be built in Sendai.
Thank you!
I think Fuji is moving the “less premium” products to China to have the capacity in japan for their high end products. So the X100 line will probably stay there.
Any new rumors about upcoming X-E2 (or any other current camera) firmware?
There are features in the X30 and X-T1 that would be a software upgrade for X-E2, haven’t seen any recent rumors about that (e.g. vertical EVF view, time-lapse, etc.).
Just curious, please don’t construe this as me saying Fuji should do this, etc., just out of curiosity and wishful thinking.
How about allowing us to name custom settings, right? 🙂
I also look forward for the fumors about X-E2 firmware update.
How about to give us an improved AF, WB work in unusual light and waxy free 3200-6400 iso jpegs, right? 🙂
Rico indicated December timeframe for x-e2 firmware update.
A lot of it is firmware… I’m hoping we see basically all of the layout/control improvements of the x30 (rotating EVF view, 4-way buttons can be programmed for direct AF Point control, customizable Q menu, etc.) I’d like to see the dual-display separate MF window in the EVF like the X-T1 if possible. It’ll have wifi, how could it not? An ISO dial would be cool but unlikely given the placement of the viewfinder.
The biggest thing I think though is the lens. If they’re bumping to 24MP and it’s going to keep the same lens that’s on the 12MP original x100 I don’t think that’s good enough. 23mm is fine, the size is great (it can’t be bigger), a leaf shutter rocks, but it needs better corner-to-corner sharpness and overall resolving power to make the MP bump at all meaningful. I said before in an earlier post, never mind f/1.4, there are realities of physics at play here in the lens design and you have to make tradeoffs. What’s most important? I’d say size and sharpness. Drop it down to f/2.8 if you have to, just make it a way BETTER f/2.8. The x100’s macro mode is basically unusable at f/2 anyways, and the restrictions on shutter speed are also disadvantageous. I’ll go to a f/2.8 lens if it’s sharper and more functional in all situations, as I understand it a lot of people really only shoot at f/4 and above on the x100/s anyways except for extreme low-light situations (yes, for which I understand the extra stop is super nice, but…)
Can’t agree anymore. I don’t see the point in able to shoot at f2 when I know the results are less than optimal.
Oh come on. Not every shot needs pixel level sharpness across the frame. Sometimes the shallow depth of field is much more important… portraits? anyone? Increasing the MP count is what is unimportant to me. 😉
So we can assume most internals are also the blueprint for the upcoming X-Pro2. Hmm, well, it’s just another 24MP APS/C sensor in that high-competitive market. Very likely an already older Sony (who wants to invest in another NEX7-clone now 😉 ) – equipped with again this very questionable X-trans CFA, still not supported in the most perfect sense for the current line of 16MP sensors. No move to full frame (…as some predicted for a first X200 model), no organic sensor, no real hybrid rangefinder viewfinder technology – what a missed chance. Sony E+A+curved sensor line and certainly Leica M don’t have to fear too much from these new wave of half-frame brothers, neither the DSLR market, Nikon with the excellent D810 and D750 – Canon with a future 1D HD DSLR and likely a very strong 7D MKII concept. Just like the X30, this product is below par of what the market really had expected. If this is true, I dare to predict that one day a lot of the current fanboys will turn their back to Fuji just like in the ST / S-Pro / G / GX days because they couldn’t develop with what the mainstream market was already offering for a long time. Look also at Panasonic & Olympus, stronger by the day, 4K video, really significant FW updates instead of endless bug-fixing. A déjà vu, Fuji is missing the power to develop and keep the momentum in a strong, cutting edge line of cameras putting anything else on the market in the shadow.
An interesting comment from a non-photographer? Photography is much more than cameras and cameras are much more than MP und 4K video 😉
Think about it…
Cheers…
Peter, please don’t feed the trolls.
Sorry 😉
The story on this site is about Fuji, not about me. Mr. Heiner & Peter, I’m no troll. No unconditional fanboy either. Throughout the years I’ve been making more pictures with Fuji stuff than a lot of this site’s fanboys together and I know the system has quite a bit of competences but very serious shortcomings too. First: even Leica M has been making quite a bit of publicity about their movie competences. Yes, Leica M. The manual rangefinder system. And it delivers also in this area excellent results, again far better than Fuji is able to 3 years after the first X-announcement. What I’m missing in Fuji X is a real red line, a vision. I start by being very naive believing that the X100 could be a kind of cheap Leica killer. It wasn’t. It was a nice concept but completely unfinished. I was believing the X-Pro1 could be a true Japanese M competitor. A modern kind of rangefinder. It also looked a bit like that marvelous TX/X-Pan. It could be a modern Contax, but the X-Pro1 proofed to be a kind of electronic, over-computerized experiment, again completely unfinished. After a zillion firmware updates it became a still quite quirky camera delivering impressive pictures if the light was OK and the firmware had decided not to work against me. The X-Pro1 mutated in cheaper and even more cheaper models, in a first attempt to improve it (the X-E2) and then a fake-DSLR. I’m still not fully getting where they are heading to, but competition is becoming stronger with the day. Investing in MLIC systems is not cheap, be honest, even more expensive than investing in most APS/C DSLRs and I think that a lot of people start to understand it. It’s a major decision and whether I wether I personally would still go Fuji X/XF, I don’t know. After 3 years I’m still frequently considering to completely sell this good-looking boys stuff. Fuji hasn’t the same stability, reliability and most of all flexibility compared to my pro-DSLR stuff. A lightweight photographer with a camera that locks-up starts hating to be a photographer, it is just a very frustrated person. By every new line that Fuji writes, I hope they can do better. But again, competition is doing so much better in a clean cut R&D. This X100T is apparently no cutting edge. And the last beacon I’ve put a bit of hope to is that X-Pro2. If this is indeed also the blueprint for the X-Pro2,…I’m not delighted. Not at all. While an organic sensor rumors were already in the air at the release of the X-Pro1.
The beauty of it is, nobody’s forcing you to buy their stuff. It’s a free world after all. If the leica cool aide jiggles your jangle then go for it.
If you have a better understanding in manufacturing and product development, I’m sure fuji would like to pick your brain. It’s amazing how critics give expert advise without really knowing the process in pushing new products in the market. As mentioned earlier, it’s a free market, if your vision doesn’t align with fuji’s then maybe it’s time to move to another brand. We won’t hold it against you.
“Comments” not advise…
tl;dr
A person would be pretty silly to try and convince anyone that a Fuji X100 series is a Leica M “killer”. (Although I carry an X100s around the same way I carried an M6 with a 35mm lens.) If you want to to make a real comparison, do so between the Fuji X100 series and the Leica X1/X2 series.
As regards the X-Pro1 vs. Leica M…I had a Leica M8. I was thinking about the X-Pro1 when it came out, but instead traded up to a Leica M9. A year later, when more lenses were available, I purchased an X-Pro1 and gave myself a year to decide which to keep. At the end of that year I sold the M9. (I still have an M6 and about a dozen M-mount lenses (C/V, Zeiss, and Leica).
So what is a Leica “killer”? Might it just be the camera that now occupies the spot in the cabinet that the Leica used to?
Today you’re 100% right. But at the initial release of the X100 and again with the X-Pro1, the market was tuned differently. Leica M was the closest thing that came in mind in those days. What I wanted to express: what is Fuji? What is the red line? Do they want to fight the DSLR-competition, be a compact camera manufacturer or just stay a niche-player? What is missing is a strong product line. Again, Leica M, X & T does mean something, Sony E as well, even Olympus OM-D is a clear statement. But what is Fuji X? A range hopping from one occasional niche into another? The problem is that quite a few of the present fanboys don’t realize what Fuji has done in the past with far more consistent product lines than the X-series now. Investing in a system requires confidence.
Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself this time.
Who said it would be the Nex-7 sensor. How about the A6000 sensor PDAF pretty much across the entire sensor? That’s the sensor I hope Fuji use from Sony in their future cameras (X100T, Xpro2, XT2. maybe something a bit more special for the xpro but we’ll see!)
Fuji lags at least 2-3 years behind. Sony would be stupid to allow a different policy and kill at the end their own product line and cutting edge technology advantage. Precisely there lies the problem.
No, Sony offer their sensors for sale 6months afters they have been launched. Remember this is extra coin for Sony. They get a head start with their cameras and then 6months later they can sell them for $$.
Never confuse camera nerds who form the opinion in online blogs and forums with “the market” or even photographers. 😉
One minute you’re slamming Fuji for not moving to full frame, mocking them for having half frame. The next you are praising Panasonic and Olympus, without mention of their quarter frame.
Great stuff.
You’re right. But I’m not intentionally slamming Fuji just having an opinion about them based on a long camera experience and try to raise funded criticism since I’m really not having that over-cudos feeling. In the stipulated premium path and according price-setting – optically & IQ-wise Fuji needs to focus on the best – at least that’s what I hope and that is nothing less than what Leica & Sony + Zeiss are capable to achieve in this segment. The X-Pro2 has one mission: to become the main MLIC reference point in the market (if it doesn’t the window to nail the pro-market with the X-series is gone and Sony will win). So a larger sensor (or at least, a very special, market differentiating one) is essential to develop a true pro-system. And a stringent focus on the overall ergonomics based on an even more compact, refined handy design with stronger, time resistant, high end materials (see further). AND… AND compared to Fuji from a business-point of view indeed 4/3 is without any doubt the most senior and major MLIC competitor so what’s in their mix is also extremely important to look into for Fuji. A far better more cutting edge 5-axis AF & IS for instance. Default weatherizing. 4K video is not an immediate requirement for me, but at least a descent truly functional HD video feature is from a 2014’s selling point required. Somehow, excuse me, no cudos here again but Olympus cameras feel better conceived compared to what Fuji is actually delivering today. Despite their quarter frame design it explains immediately why so many serious photographers are looking into this direction instead of Fuji – they really have to work on a more solid X-quality including the FWs, a better feel and get rid of the fiddly not very solid buttons and lens dials & controls, cheap plastic LCD protectors, weak paint, the deviating manual concepts in the different lenses, the not very well designed and fitting plastic bayonets used to attach in the lens hoods, the delicate, far too thin metal and again weak paint lens-hoods of the XF18 & 35mm,… the focus has to be ‘great stuff’ indeed, Justtakethepicture.
Somehow disappointed, just increased pixel sensor instead of FF and more and more features (supposing from what I read about X30) instead of applying the “simplicity is the genius” premise.
As the ole X100 is as it is, I’m not sure if it’s worth to upgrade… Is Fuji scared of FF????
Are you scared of APSC ?
I’m not, but I don’t understand the point. Sony can do FF at a very competitive price, so why to buy APSC Fuji?
Buy Sony then. The world doesn’t revolve around 135 format.
Because APS-C is the sweet spot that Fuji has chosen between portability and image quality, across their whole top line-up. Easy to understand really.
I don’t believe that Fuji have chosen APS-Cas a sweet spot. They’ve chosen it because it would be cheaper way of exploring possibility of becoming a new entrant to mirrorless world. They could have released all X range as FF, but that would make X-Pro1 too expensive.
Sony have done what Fuji did back in 2010 with APS-C – test the market with fixed lens camera, wait for reception and feedback and if there’s interest release a camera system. That’s whatFuji did with X100 and then X-Pro1.
There’s no reason why not go FF, Fuji just wants you to believe that APS-C is all you need – of course, that’s all they can sell you, it’s that simple 😉
Do why don’t u buy a sony??
*So .. Typo
Any idea on release date? By end of year?
how stupid do u have to be as fuji to put an evf inferior to the xt1 into the x100t? no competition, x100 series is considered quite unique and an entry point to the fuji world.
disappointed again
I think it’s the size, maybe wouldn’t fit without a hump
I can’t believe they did it to you, again. It’s almost as if they are singling you out. I hope Fuji reads this and realises how disappointed you are.
why dont u go an justtakepictures? maybe u r more successful at it than at sarcasm… or anything else that counts in life
Indeed. What is life? Whining about trivia and taking sarcasm badly?
Have a great day!
x100 series is actually quite pricey compared to X-E’s
everyone seemed to love the previous (x100s), and this seems like mostly minor improvements. i’m sure it will do just fine.
i will say, since people are sounding off on what they want, what would really be a game changer for me would be a large sensor compact with a fixed (as in non interchangeable, not prime) zoom lense. something with the look/feel/size of the x100s or sony rx1 with zoom capabilities and a built-in viewfinder and a sub-leica price.
no need to waste time on things like video (videographers can get video cameras for this, photo and video are distinct arts, i don’t need my photo camera to take video any more than i need it to make phone calls) and also wifi, which seems gimicky, how hard is it to just upload your photos with a card when you’re done shooting?. but that’s just my opinion, and obviously not universal.
That’s the thing with the X100, it doesn’t need to change. It’s success is built on the way it is now, so other than perfecting what is already there i wouldn’t want anything changed .. just ‘minor improvements’. Really though, a new sensor, a new lens(!!!), improved VF, and ‘some’ operational improvements (like we’ve seen in the X30) add up to a huge upgrade. This camera is *all about* its operation, and it’s built all around the one lens, and viewed through the one awesome HVF. This, is, the stuff !
I agree a variation with compact zoom (or fast 50mm equiv) would be nice, just one choice for such a legendary machine is not enough. 😉
pretty cool… I hope this is just some of the new stuff we should expect to see in the X-Pro2… especially in regards to the nicer EVF.
In the fast-moving rumor mill, the Fujifilm X30 is already history. There is no time to lay back in the past and say “hey, I got all the X30 leaked specs right”.
And yet somehow you managed to find the time to give yourself that pat in the back!
no time to lay back, chill and be happy that the X30 rumors were correct… because it’s like starting from zero again, after every camera, after every rumor
It’s therefore that today I prepared a long list with rumors to send to sources for checking, and wrote the X100T rumor… and I’m still awake, waiting for a skype call with the Japanese source (when the Jap has exciting rumors, he always wants to talk to me personally… that could be a good sign :-)… ok, no sleep, but hopefully good rumors).
So sorry for expressing my relief and happiness about the correct X30 rumors and thanking my sources for sharing them. I’ll try to write posts without emotions from now on 😉
Too right you should be happy/proud, mate; I am quite sure none of us really appreciate the amount of work involved
thanks Didiergm
you know what it is? the truth is… you often don’t get gratitude for good, honest and hard work, but just somebody’s jealousy.
But it doesn’t matter… I put my best into it, sometimes with good results, sometimes with bad results… but in any case, with honesty and dedication.
Imagine, though, if you banned some of the trolls here. 🙂
Much deserved pat on the back for your hard work, Patrick. I’m looking forward to the X100 rumors.
sometimes, though, you get nice surprises: http://joshmcleodphotography.com/2014/08/26/rumours-rumours-rumours/
héhéhé 🙂
I really enjoy this site, but please never write “the Jap” again. Thanks!
Is it a derogatory term? I had no idea about this. I’ve changed
It can be considered offensive
Pardon, I was completely unaware of this.
Get over yourself and leave Patrick alone! I promise you he meant nothing by the abbreviation–he’s a man of integrity!! If you guys have nothing better to do then attack, then go over to Canon Rumors!
wooo! exciting! what time is your call? 😀
Especially, one big question is: will the converters stay compatible?!
We talked, but I can’t share for now, as the source wants to be 100% correct and precize… In fact it would require a correction of a rumor shared in the past.
Sorry, for now I can’t say more, but I’ll post an update ASAP
I received in written the confirmation on adapters compatibility.
When Admin posts wrong rumors you guys hate on him, when he posts right ones you still manage to hate on him. Did you even have to post this?
Booo on you!
Ok someone make the argument for the X100T over the X-T1 with the 23mm I upgraded to the X-T1 and got the 23 + 56 As it turns out I use the 23 90% of the time for my street. When I had the X100 I used the Optical 50% of the time but have come to love the EVF on the X-T1 Then there is the wait and see for the Pro2 option but how much more could that offer anyway (sensor????) Let’s hear your two cents….
Leaf shutter, so faster flash sync speeds. Some of the nice software updates of the X30. Smaller. Less to think about. That’s about it.
Use what you have to take photos until it doesn’t work any more.
That was easy.
I can take great photos with anything. That said I like to print large and I like to shoot low light no flash. AND I want to have taking photos fun, that is why I went with the X100 in the first place.
VM the benefit for me with the leaf is quiet operation not sync
The X100s is lighter, smaller and in many ways simpler than the X-T1 (less dials and buttons). The rumored X100t could bring even superior IQ (may not be noticeable though…).
I also love the leaf shutter and the two converters: those make a really nice compact system and changing a converter is much safer than changing a lens!
Anyway, if money isn’t a problem, you should try the X100s or T.
If money is a concern, then stick with your X-T1 and 23mm: those are wonderful equipments!
Hi Patrick,
I know this is out of topic, but I want to ask if there will be any Fujifilm Instax Share SP-2 coming up real soon ?
I am interested to buy Fujifilm Instax Share SP-1 and currently they are on special deal (http://www.jbhifi.co.nz/photo/digital-cameras/fujifilm/instax-share-sku-271533/) -> NZ$215 out of retail price: NZ$249
Thank you Patrick!
I have no information about it 🙁
And when is the next x-e2 price drop expected? I recently got a silver version but returned it cause now I am sure I want the black one, but I will get it only when the next price drop ;).
there is a $ 50 rebate right now on the X-E2, running in USA
Pity I am from Europe, and $50 doesn’t seem so much :/ 😀
It’s alright Patrick. I am still deciding whether or not to get this. Thanks again. 😉
I do hope that they keep the style of the X100 and X100s. I don’t want to see the updated look that the X30 has compared to the X10 & X20.
No word regarding a dedicated ISO dial? Or do users find the custom rear dial on the x100s to be sufficient?
I’ve saved my pennies and plan to get one of these to complement my old 5D. Excited about what may be offered.
The lack of an ISO dial is one of the things that bug me the most on my X100. And especially when in EVF mode, the menu always pops up in the viewfinder instead of the back display of the camera so you have to take your eye to the viewfinder to change ISO. I found I could at least do it faster by confirming the new ISO by half-pressing the shutter button instead of the finicky “OK” button in the center of the directional pad, which makes it kind of usable, but a dedicated ISO dial would definitely be better.
x100t it will be weather sealed, and with UHS-II, and at least the fast focus as x-e2!….24mp, aps-c….and still waiting for that extra that we can’t predict yet for it…i dare to predict : vertical battery grip
Good improvements, but I really hope this doesn’t mean they’ll be ditching away the Optical Viewfinder… (and I sure could live without the tilting screen).
Hi,
the x100 was my first Fuji and I loved it. Then came the X-Pro1 which I also loved to use, but it was not as magical as the X100. Now I have the X-Pro1 and the X-T1, which is a great camera.
Nevertheless, all the while I have that itch and longing to again get a X100(s). Kind of nuts, isn’t it?
The X-T1 /X-Pro 1 with the 1.4 23 is a great combo and therefore does the X100(whatever) not make any sense … but there is that longing 😉
However, part of the X100 series is of course the optical viewfinder. No question here. If they ditch this one, then it is not a X100 any more and I am out.
24 good MP (16 are still fine for me btw), weathersealing, super fast af, that nice leafe-shutter and the whole thing in black, and yes, finally I might follow my guts and leave my brain at home when I head towards the next shop …
Take care,
Daniel
Daniel, I know exactly what you are talking about!
This X100/s camera has “something” special, difficult to define.
I think it has something to do with the lightness and the fixed lens. Knowing you can’t change the lens just frees my mind of the question “should I use another focal” (although the converters are partially recreating that issue)
“EVF will have a x0.67 magnification and offer a horizontal apparent field of view of approx. 27°.”
A 50mm /T/ele lens would have just about 27 deg horizontal field of view projected on a crop-size sensor. Just sayin..
Yeah, but the focal length does not change if you move closer to the TV. 😉
The thing that keeps me from being interested in this or any of the other X100 variations is the fact that it uses a different battery than the X-E1, X-E2, X-Pro1, X-T1, X-etc.. It means I would have to carry two sets of extra batteries and two chargers. If Fujifilm wants this to go in the bags of shooters who use those cameras, they should consider giving it the same battery.
Well the NP-95 is staying, since the X30 uses it. I think your idea of an X100 with the NP-W126 is an interesting idea. Maybe Fuji will make a “pro” variant, with full weather sealing (probably easier on a non-interchangeable lens camera), better ergonomics, and using the NP-W126. That way it would be a compliment to the X-T1.
The only features I wish my X100S had are:
– manual exposure control in video
– more C settings (7 like the X-Pro1 instead of 3)
– ability to apply an advanced filter to one of the C settings, similar to the film simulations (I never use the advanced filters, because they are either buried in menu or need my Function button assigned to use them…and cycling through all of them takes too much time)
I know and share that pain. On my regular every other month trip to Japan I have to take two NP-126, NP-95 and NP-50 batteries and a charger for each to use my X-Pro1, X100, and X20 cameras. I bet half my travel weight is now chargers and spare batteries. But, I don’t see the battery situation changing my time soon.
My hopes are to buy an X-Pro2 to replace my now 3.5 year old X100, and maybe an 18-135 to replace my X20 since I only use the X20 as my reach camera and occasionally to play with the art filters when bored. If the X-Pro2 uses the same battery as the X-Pro1, that eliminates the battery issue for me.
A faster AF is always welcome, although I don’t expect any improvements that would justify an upgrade from the X100s (probably much less an improvement than from the X100 to the X100s, and only relevant in certain “perfect world” situations and marketing folders).
Higher MP usually come with a trade-off to high quality ISO, so I’m not sure if this is what I want (I appreciated the step from the X100’s 12MP though).
Tilt screen – no, thanks
New Lens – the current lens is not bad, so it won’t bring any significant improvements to my pictures – probably not a reason to upgrade
So the only interesting improvement might be the weather sealing – I never had any problems in light rain though, and do not plan to use my camera in thunderstorms – so again it would not be a reason to upgrade as long as my X100s works.
When I started using the X100s, I had the feeling, that this was the camera, that the X100 already should have been (although I loved shooting with my X100, it never felt like the “perfect” camera – mainly because it was just too slow in every concern).
So although there weren’t any significant improvements, the camera felt different, better.
Based on the recent rumors, I don’t think, that the X100T will be able to deliver the same feeling of improvement.
As for the EVF – I have only used the OVF so far, so if they should decide to ditch it, I wouldn’t even consider buying a X100T for a second.
And I don’t want to imagine how the camera would look like without that beautiful OVF windows.
“high quality ISO” should read “high quality high ISO” of course
So how does this compare to say EM1 or old Canon AE1 camera OVF?
Now that was a big finder!
Does anyone know the EVF magnification of the X100S? I have no complaints about the EVF and the OVF is wonderful. I know it uses an LCD panel instead of an OLED. Just curious how much this is actually an improvement over the X100S.
Thank you.
0.71 with a 50mm equivalent lens. They give 0.50 in the specs, but this is with the 23mm lens. If you want to compare with other X cameras you have to convert it to 50mm equivalent. The X100s already has the biggest viewfinder after the XT1.
My guess is that the X100T will have exactly the same viewfinder as the X100s because they state a field of view of 26° for the X100s, here it is 27° in the rumor, the numbers are close enough.
Fuji has simply forgotten to market the X100 viewfinder as a big viewfinder. Fuji never cheat with viewfinder magnification, but they should have at least made the figures comparable. Now they are. 🙂
The 50mm EFOV is what I have been waiting for in digital fixrd lens camera since the demise of film. Allow it to close focus and I am in heaven.
I have no need for a non improved OVF camera. I’d take a t1 or a e2 if I wanted a EVF. The e2 with a pancake lens is super compact too.
If the X100T was to house a 23mm f1.4 lens, it could be a significant upgrade. I bet people would be willing to pay a bit more.
What will be the impact of having 24MP? More crop capabilities?
Higher resolution images, worse dynamic range and low light performance.
Maybe better AF too if they increase the phase detection pixels within the sensor.
An ETA on the new X100?
