OMG it’s a dream come true for the most professionalists of photographers!!
we have to think at the target. The entry level segment. A selfie screen could make sense there.
The “target” doesn’t exist anymore. It’s using the Iphone for the same purpose. The “target” wants a small camera (nope it’s not), with good video (it’s not 4K, and probably not perfect at full HD formats either). Also aspiring photographers or newbies who want a second or third camera will NOT buy this camera, simply for the fact that the IQ specs are completely outdated. I guess in 2015 Fuji will be the only camera maker offering a new camera with this sensor. Not a bad one, but everybody else now is @ 24mp, and the price will be very similar.
The only ‘advantage’ from a 24mp sensor for the ‘target’ will be greater files.
I think you missed what Lorenzaccio was saying:
This camera is aimed at the selfy-enthusiast. But the selfy-enthusiast isn’t using a camera like this. It doesn’t work for anyone else at all. So, if it doesn’t appeal to the selfy-dude or dudet, it better appeal to the person that buys based on spec (which, like it or not, is the X fan), and completely misses the target.
Why was this camera even developed?
Thank you Ohm image, this was my point, and it was inherently a marketing point. As it stands today, if we talk about absolute final quality, lenses have more impact than the sensor, and there is no doubt that as far as we talk IQ the difference from 16 to 24 mp would have to be evaluated along with many other factors. But as far as selfie ppl are concerned, I don’t see any single aspect of this camera that should attract them: much more difficult to use than the Iphone/Android everybody already has and uses, it’s one item more to buy and carry around that does not fit into a pocket (you need a small bag for it), and then you have to take care of files in a complicated way (still compared to Iphone). And the specs are outdated, so even a selfie person would probably opt either for a smaller and more portable camera, or for a “more mp / 4K video” camera.
But this is what Fuji wonts. A camera for the selfie- generation. So their decision for the sensor was right – the rest … we don’t know – maybe not so clever?
I don’t care about 24mp, and most people who don’t print on billboard and don’t believe marketing shouldnt care much…
Even with the best selfie features, they have missed the key factor and that is size, that lens is just too big. The selfie “photographers” use iPhones, GoPros, all that other tiny stuff that fits in the handbag while they hold the Starbucks coffee. I wanted future XA to be a back up body for timelaps and replace x30 function with a collapsible lens.
This is a shame and a waste of Fuji marketing effort. No photostore I have ever walked in to with a friends looking for enthusiast camera was ever offered Fuji X first, if they say no to Nikon or canon, they get offered Samsung and Olympus, and only then if asked about Fuji, would the rep show Fuji stand in the corner of the store. So how do they expect to sell XA2 with that attitude…
The camera should have a built-in selfie stick. Would sell like hot cakes.
Hmmm…. the X-Pro 1 is really out of date, but no rumors or anything suggests we’re due for an upgrade. Strange.
Mind you, I like that the X-Pro line isn’t updated every other year. It’s nice to make a solid classic camera that isn’t disposable. Though the problem is every other X camera seems to be continuously refreshed to the point of being superior than what should be their “Pro” model.
Scroll down a few articles on the main page. There is a link there saying thexpro2 will be released later in 2015 – albeit no confirmed specs, but looking like a 24mp sensor etc.
Those 16mpx sensors must be stupid cheap for Fuji! Because no company is making any apsc cameras with that sensor since 2012!!!
Wasn’t it just last year when Fuji told us they were going to focus on high end? Haven’t we had a steady stream of low end since then? Love the lenses and X series cameras, but….
Sorry for going off the reservation, but could the X-Pro2 perhaps have an APS-C sized Sony imx174 type CMOS?

Such a disappointment!!!! such a waste of resources… This could have been Fuji answer to Olympus Pen and Omd10, this could have eaten in to Cheap Sony NEX sales. But no, it is just same old XA with some useless features they could have realised as firmware update in new colours… please tell me it is at least cheaper and has slightly less plastic toy feel…
I don’t see any sense in this, there’s no money in the entry level market, the last one was a failure. Something to complete with the Sony RX100 would have been better for an entry level camera, and have a tilt screen with that, with wifi. I know they have the x100 but not everyone wants to shoot with a 35mm lens. This looks like a failure before they’ve even sold any.
