Fujifilm just updated the roadmap here. Nothing really new for Fujirumors readers. As rumored moths ago, there will be a 16mm f/1.4 and a 90mm f/2. The Super-Telephoto should be a 120-400, according to new sources. I’ve added the rumored roadmap at the bottom. Also updated, the right&wrong rumor list in 2014 and the reliability rating.
So what’s new? Well, Fuji gave us an expected availability for the lenses and it seems that the new primes (90 and 16) won’t be weather resistant. Also, the 16-55 seems to have no OIS anymore.
“FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is pleased to release an updated road map for X mount interchangeable lenses.
A large-diameter medium telephoto lens (the XF90mmF2 R) features for the first time on the development road map for end 2015. The next available lens will be the XF50-140mm F2.8 R LM OIS WR. Following on from the XF18-135mm lens, this will be Fujifilm’s second weather resistant lens designed to partner its X-T1 camera.
Other updates to the road map include the previously announced “Ultra-wide angle lens” being confirmed as the “XF16mmF1.4 R” with a guide launch date of mid 2015. And the planned launch of the XF16-55mmF2.8 R WR lens moving to Spring 2015 and the Super Tele-Photo Zoom lens to Winter 2015.
Highly regarded for their outstanding image quality, resolution and well-built bodies, the unique X mount lens range now includes super-wide angle to super-telephoto range lenses and a large-diameter lens with rich bokeh and high resolution.”

2014 rumor check
NOTE: You will see for example some X-T1 rumors (and others) listed sepratately. This is due the fact that there was, for example, a source telling me of a tilt screen, while another told me at a different time about the price and so on.
It’s fair towards my sources not to put everything together in the same pot and simply say “X-T1″, as every rumor listed here comes from a different source and was posted in different articles and could have been right or wrong.
Obviously the same goes for the wrong rumors. I don’t simply say “18-135 announcement”, but shared all 3 wrong release dates separately, so that they result as 3 errors and not as one.
CORRECT RUMORS IN 2014
– XF 90mm f/2
– XF16mm f/1.4
– XF 18-135 coming June 16th
– X-E2 deal
– X-E2 firmware update with X-T1 EVF refresh rate coming soon (correct, it came a few days later)
– TCL-X100 will be out end of May (correct. It’s available since then in Japan, now also in Europe. Still out of stock in USA)
– TCL-X100 will cost €250 and be a bit cheaper than the WCL (correct. AmazonDE sells the silver version for €249, while the discounted WCL still costs €269)
– TCL-X100 will cost $350/400 (correct, it costs $350 at Bhphot & Co)
– TCL-X100 coming second half of April (correct, announced April 22)
– Lightroom 5.4 coming next week
– February/March lens deals with confidential Fuji document
– With the next update, Adobe will support X-Trans film simulation
– X30 won’t come in February/March as rumored by digicame-info
– Image and size comparison of the 10-24 with a protype 18-135 (real image)
– XF 16-55 and 50-140 will be weather sealed
– X-T1 announcement in January 28th at 4:30 AM London Time
– Improved WiFi for the X-T1
– UHS-II SD card slot, but no double SD-card slot + 8fps with AF tracking (Fuji originally planed a dual SD-card slot. When the first X-T1 image leaked here on FR, it even looked like a dual SD-card slot, but the Japanese source said it has just a single SD-card slot)
– X-T1 will cost $1300 / €1200
– First images of a prototype X-T1
– Firmware update for Zeiss will add PDAF support
– Tilt screen for the X-T1
– The name of the weather sealed X will be X-T1
– X-T1 will have the best EVF on the market
– black X100S will have a retail price of about £1000, about the same as silver version (the final retail price in UK is RRP £1099.99 for the black and £1049 for the silver version, according to wexUK. But now both are sold cheaper).
– XF56mm announcement at January 6th
– black X100S will be the only “new” X-camera presented at CES
WRONG RUMORS IN 2014
– XF 18-135 announcement on Memorial Day. NOTE: I excluded the rumor of an 18-135 f/3.5-4.8, as this was a typo by Fujifilm at the CP+ (see this image), and I just reported about it.
– XF 18-135 will come in May
– XF 18-135 in stores in February
– X-PRO2 with FF sensor (wrong, and corrected a few weeks later by the top trusted Japanese source)
HIGH RATING
– X30 with 2/3 sensor
– X100T successor of X100S
– XF120-400
– X-PRO2 with APS-C sensor
– No more X-PRO1S, all R&D placed into the X-PRO2
– X30 coming in summer (so there is time until September 20)
MEDIUM RATING
– X30 with EVF only
– Nissin i40: first lot of flashes available early September (the actual availability date will be various between countries, so in some countries it could come a little later)
– XF 35mm MKII (As Fuji has first to complete its lens lineup, it could take a while before the 35 MKII hits the market… and Fuji can change plans in any moment regarding this lens.) PLEASE NOTE: This rumor was not reported accurately by other sites (as petapixel and mirrorlessrumors). They quote FR, but say that the lens is “coming soon”. Which I never said. None of my sources ever told me a release date. In fact I said on May 5th: “I do not know when it will be launched nor which improvements we can expect, but, as you may guess, I’m restlessly working on it.”
– Faster AF for the 35mm MKII (This rumor is separated from the first 35MKII rumor, as it comes from another source and was posted in another article)
– X200 with 24MP, tilt screen, improved AF and wider detection area (Medium rating as I think that some, but not all the specs will be correct. The name has changed almost for sure to X100T).
– Button Upgrade for the early produced X-T1′s with mushy buttons.
– X-PRO2 available in 2015
LOW RATING
– X-T1P release with 4K viewfinder in July [An upgrade (or special/limited edition) is possible, but not anytime soon. And, as soon as also drphotorumor says that this rumor is not correct, I’ll downgrade it to “very low rating”. As soon as/if the top trusted Japanese source and/or the good old source tells me that this is wrong, I’ll move it into the wrong rumors 2014 list]
VERY LOW RATING
– Sigma X-mount coming at photokina
– Medium Format Fuji (there are several anonymous sources telling me that this rumor is wrong. But I will post an update only when a trusted source speaks. And if they say, as to expect, that it is not correct, I’ll move it into the “wrong rumors” list)

I’ve been waiting and praying for that 90mm would be released at some point.
Can’t come soon enough!
We are good with lenses, but when it comes to bodies, we are staying aps-c. I wish some official could at point confirm NO FF…
I don’t have any rumors about an FF Fuji by any of my trusted sources
Great, wish FF would never happen. Much better idea to do one system and do it well.
Sony has FF locked up to a point that FUJI would be hard to find a profit making a FF but I do think they are thinking about it or bigger? FUJIFILM loves MF and will make one if they Think can make profit.
The MF market is rapidly shrinking, more than the DSLR market (maybe not as much as P&S). I think other than for bragging rights there wouldn’t be enough money in it long term to justify the R&D.
MF do high price only, If they FUJI can make one at the right price they would sell a bunch. I do think
How many is a bunch, though? It would have to be a long term sustainable market. If there was that much money in it, Nikon and Canon would have moved into it for more profits. Instead they seem to be trying to lure people away from MF.
When I think of the R&D effort, the actual price of the product and the number of likely buyers it just doesn’t add up. Sure, it would be cool but I’m sure they’ve looked into the number of likely actual customers out there. Follow the dollars and innovation. Where is the most activity and change happening in photography/cameras today? It isn’t MF. Not in DSLRs, either. It’s smartphones first and followed by a long distance (for now) by mirrorless.
All these new lenses won’t be out until the end of 2015, mid 2015, spring 2015?
I guess I’ve got some time to save up. My next lens is going to be the 16mm and I was hoping to get it sometime this year.
I guess they need all their resources working on the X-Pro2 and game-changing organic sensors. 😉
I don’t think the lens designers work a lot on the X-Pro2, except maybe the OVF. But Fujinon also designs lenses for other mounts/systems… they made 13 X-lenses in 2.5 years. Quite impressive. Probably other lenses will get more attention now.
All but the 50-140 and the 16-55.
The 3 lenses that are coming out next will be big sellers I think and likely FUJIFILM booked large run times so they don’t sell out the runs and have to stop making one to make the other. The run times are not set in stone on the map but likely they will not want to push a lens back but pull it forward.
I don’t get Fuji’s method of charting.
If the XF90 f/2 is not going to be available until the end of 2015 why is it before the 2015 date on the chart. Per the chart it looks to be releasing in May 2015. Just stick it at the end with the 120-400. Oh. and I would like OIS on the 90 f/2 please.
It seems to me that Fuji has really cut back on the production releases of lenses. A lot of talk, but actual availability of lenses is way down the road.
Boy, this will surely slow down my Fuji lens purchases, I was expecting the 120-400 to be spring 2015. And I was going to use the quality of the 120-400 as a guide of how all in I was going to get with Fuji. Time for a rethink.
It’s quite a bad chart indeed, but the grey bar on top shows this white glow in-between the years, so the labels are in the center of the duration of a year, and vertical white lines cut them in half.
I get that now, thanks, But Fuji says one thing, 90 f/2 at end of 2015 and on chart it looks to be May – June 2015. Which is right?
Indeed, noticed that too. I’m guessing they mean announcement / release may be as on the map but actual availability realistically would be later. Or maybe just an error, the chart designer may have even confused himself. 😉
I think Patrick misread the chart when writing his text. Looks to me like 90 will indeed come next spring.
I justed copied and pasted from Fujifilm official page
see here
Bizarre. DPreview has the press release saying “first half-2015”
Probably the biggest disappointment for me is the 120-400 going to the end of 2015…Summer of 2016 will most likely be reality.
Looks like there is a mistake either in the map or the text with the 90mm. While the 90mm is new I don’t see a change in position of any other lens.
is there a need for a 16mm wide angle at f1.4?
Canon and Nikon’s 24mm F1.4 on Fullframe are quite popular.
Star shooter want them.
For street/documentary/wedding, absolutely. The differences between a 28mm and a 24mm are very striking. F1.4 will be great for night shots – and you will have (albeit very limited – almost identical to the 18mm f2.0) DoF control when you really want it.
Hell yeah.
For events/weddings : you can show the environment even in close quarters, low light, and with some separation between subject and background.
Stars and northern lights.
correct me if i’m wrong, but do we not stop down for this purpose?
Most night shooters prefer 2.8 or faster. Often it’s a compromise between focal length, and aperture size as the widest lenses (i.e fish eyes, 10mm et al. on APS-C or about 14mm on FF) usually have a maximum aperture of 2.8 whereas the 24mm-ish range more often can be as fast as 1.4.
Fast, wide, sharp wide open, and with no optical coma is the common dream – but there’s very often a compromise to be made with one or more of those factors regardless of the lens in use.
I also shoot Canon FF and both the Canon 24 1.4 (strong coma) and Rokinon/Samyang 24 1.4 (not super sharp wide open in my experience) have shortcomings.
thx for the tips. for corner2corner sharpness, wouldn’t f5.6 or f8 be more viable on tripod than wide open f1.4?
Most lenses would be sharper corner to corner, but since the star light is very faint and you need to expose for that light that either means very long shutter speeds ( = stars start trailing) or super high ISOs (more noise than desired) then all you have to work with is the aperture, which lets in more light per second at wider apertures. (Unless you’re using an astrotracking device – which I don’t – that will help you collect light while the camera moves with the trajectory of the stars).
thx. gonna try it wide-open with the 23mm f1.4
if 28 is sufficient the nikkor 28 1.8 is amazing better onb thte high rseoluiton and demandiung cams than the 24 1.4 nikkor i traded in the 24 1.4 for a 28 1.8 bokeh is nearly the same due top the longer focal lenght can compenstate the 2/3 stop less….
but you have to have the composiional abilities to live with 28 than 24….
the 28 nikkor is alos less expensive, less bulky/weighty than the 24 and it has a higher benchmark in shaprness/reolution than the 24 too according to dxomark at least…
amzing performing on the d800e now d810 😉
sorry i forgot i think the same could be true for canon so the 28 could have been better options/choice than the 24….
Then don’t buy it. Posts like this are so annoying.
thx but i got my answer below
So sad – the super telephoto lens moved far away. I have to rethink about Fuji…as i need a long telephoto lens.
Yes, it moved from winter 2015 to winter 2015…
Does winter 2015 mean January/February 2015 or November/December 2015?
Let me rephrase: Oh my god, they moved it from end of 2015 to end of 2015!!!
February 15
Next to the 16-55 I need a long lens too.
1:1 macro?!?!?
That 90mm f/2 with 1:1 macro capabilities would’ve been heaven on earth for me…
Zeiss Makes a nice 50 1 : 1 a bit short tho. But I wouldn’t say if its not on the map it won’t show up someday.
The Zeiss is more of a tweener. Too short for insects but a little long for certain kinds of flowers. But it’s a fabulous lens and you can do quite a lot with it. A longer telephoto macro would be awesome for insects but there are other things out there…
I really like the Zeiss, but I just prefer the 90mm or 135mm equivalent focal length for macros. As there already is the Fuji 60mm macro lens (even though 1:2) it would’ve been great to also have a 90mm or 100mm macro (this time 1:1)
They could just make the 60 into a real macro now that they have the 56.
oh yes
Sadly no 1:1 macro…

So it looks like fuji has no plans to weather seal any of its upcoming primes. Is it only their zooms that will receive this professional-grade quality? Also, the 16-55mm f2.8, a dream walk-around lens, will not have OIS? Why fuji, why? The prototype photos of the lens make it look enormous, and yet you couldn’t fit any OIS in there? Ridiculous!
In my experience there is little need for OIS in a mid range f/2.8 zoom. In the 35-55 mm (APS) range it makes some sense, since you could gain a stop or two at times depending on the focal length, but shorter than that there are not enough use cases to make OIS worth it, since many times you need faster shutter speeds anyway to freeze motion. Skipping the OIS in the 16-55/2.8 is IMO a smart move by Fuji that makes it possible to design the 16-55 with higher optical quality, lower weight and smaller size relative to an OIS design.
Still, it is just crazy how thick the 16-55mm barrel is compared to every other X lens. I realize it needs space for the larger constant aperture, but for it to not have OIS at that size is obscene. This is supposed to be a modern, professional-level lens that is the perfect complement to the X-T1. Not having OIS really limits this lens’ potential.
Like the Nikon 24-70 is not a pro lens due to lack of stabilization? Let’s have some perspective here. Picking at nits for a lens no one has even seen in action.
Fuji is suppose to be better than Nikon or Canon, the fact that Nikon and Canon don’t have OIS in their 24-70 2.5 is all the reason Fuji “should” have OIS in its 16-55, to be better. Fuji should add OIS to 16-55 and OIS to 90 /f2. And speaking of the 90 f/2 it should really be a 90 /1.8 OIS to compete against the Sony 90 f/1.8.
I meant 24-70 2.8
Who said they are supposed to be better? They’re just another choice. There may be legitimate reasons not to have it. It’s not, as the other person said, obscene that it isn’t there. 1/3 of a stop really doesn’t make much difference on the 90mm lens. You can’t compare by numbers alone but the quality result. And not just one lens but the whole system.
I already own a 24-70 2.8, it doesn’t have OIS. For me…and of course this most likely doers not apply to you as you are different from me, but I would like OIS on the 16-55 2.8, and weather sealed to, as I take photos from moving boats, sometime moving fast and sometimes bobbing in the waves. OIS would help.
I guess “better” is a matter of personal preference. IMHO OIS serves its purpose very well on tele zooms (70-200 and up for FF) and tele lenses (200 and up for FF), but fast primes (135 and down for FF) and shorter fast (non tele) zooms work better without OIS since the quality/weight/size price you pay is not worth it compared to what you gain.
Why did Fuji add OIS to the 10-24 f/4R OIS? Of all lenses not to add OIS to.
Could it be because the 10-24/4 is not a fast zoom? Nikon and Canon have done the same on FF. I prefer UWA lenses without OIS though, but that is just me.
The picture of the 16-55 has changed on the new lens roadmap. It may indicate that the lens design will be different from the mockup we have seen so far, it may or may not be possible to make the lens smaller with the excellent optical quality I think Fuji wants in the 16-55, looking at what they have achieved so far with most of the XF lenses. If you look at Nikon and Canon, both so far consider it preferable not to have OIS in their midrange f/2.8 zooms. In my experience that choice makes sense due to the quality/weight/size price you have to pay with OIS v.s. the small gain you can make by using a slightly lower shutter speed at the longer end of the zoom range.
Both Canon and Nikon’s 17-55mm f2.8’s have IS.
No, Nikon’s 17-55 doesn’t have VR.
I was refering to the pro 24-70/2.8 lenses from Nikon and Canon which do not have VR/IS.
Nikon’s 17-55/2.8 does not have VR. It was intended as a pro lens when it came in 2003 because Nikon did not go FF until the D3 and the 24-70/2.8 were announced in 2007.
The Canon 17-55/2.8 IS came in 2006, and Canon went FF for their pro bodies and pro lenses with the 1Ds and the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L already in 2002. Therefore the Canon 17-55/2.8 IS was not intended as a pro lens by Canon even when it was released.
So the point that the pro midrange f/2.8 zooms from Nikon and Canon do not have VR/IS holds for now.
Sorry, but the only thing that keeps Canon’s 17-55 from being regarded a “Pro” level lens is the fact that it is EF-S form factor, thus it cannot be designated as an “L”. In all other respects (build quality, image quality) it is comparable with many L lenses in Canon’s roadmap. I speak with some experience here having used that lens consistently since not long after it was introduced. I agree with others that there is no excuse that I can see for dropping OIS from the 16-55. I used that feature extensively (particularly in low light) on the Canon version and will not own a standard walkaround lens without it.
I did not intend to judge the quality of the lenses, I just stated the facts about how the manufacturers have chosen to designate their lenses, and the midrange “Pro” lenses from Canon and Nikon do not have OIS for now. I think that may have to do with what full time pros value, i.e. they prefer no OIS on their midrange f/2.8 zooms, but of course I am just guessing, based on my own experience.
LOL. Spoken like a true fan boy. FYI, Tamron makes an EXTREMELY sharp 17-50mm f/2.8 constant aperture lens WITH IS.
It can be done. Except at Fujifilm.
You also appear to be some kind of fanboi. Any chance you can let me know _which_ Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is smaller and lighter than the Fujinon 18-55? If you add weather sealing, you have to compromise on something if keeping size or weight down is the goal.
No, he’s just a troll. If you look at his post history all his comments (every one) are anti-mirrorless and anti-Fuji. Probably is a paid marketing troll.
Of course, the plasticky, not weather sealed Tamron which is “sharp” like a rusty razor at 2.8, sounds like a weather mill and kicks with his VC so that daylight images are always blurred with specific shutter speeds. And how small it is… That´s the perfect lens to compare with Fuji X lenses, surely 😉
Ratty Mouse …. missed!
Most review agree than the NON IS version of the 17-50 is sharper than it’s IS counterpart. (Note that I am not saying that the IS version is a dud) That said IS has its uses & drawbacks
Yeah, Fuji should put OIS on the 16-55mm…
…for people with Parkinson’s.
nice but annoying lead times… but i guess that is what you get as a consumer if you see the road map carrot 🙂
90mm non IS seems like a missed opportunity unless there is a IS body coming…
Hard or likely imposable with a fast lens that size. They would have to make it longer, fatter and cost a bunch more.
then I hope it won’t cost 999€…
Looks like a very slow roadmap for these new lenses… Is Fuji too busy on something else???
Did they push out the super-tele date? Was hoping to get it late 2014 or early 2015.
That’s my take on it. They’ve kicked out the lens arrival times in to the long grass of the distant future. The super tele was on the 2014/2015 border on the previous roadmap, now it’s pushed back a year.
I love what fuji have been doing with the x series, but in the next round i hope they will make cheaper, smaller and slower lenses with the same focal length. For example 23mm f2(2.8), 35mm f2(2.8), 14mm f4, 16mm f2.8.
This would be nice.
Not everybody needs these big expensive apertures.
A smaller cheaper 14mm would be very accessible to us non-pros.
Sometimes i also prefer to. I think they can fit in XC lens line, but i don’t like the ringless aperture options on XC and XF 27.
If the need more time for develop an contruct them perfect/better….fine but then not with these mistakes/wrong decisions imo…:
1. No OIS…..16-55 2.8 WR bummer defineitely wrong not smart just stupid imo
2. 1.8 than 2 of the 90 prime lens would be amazing better with regard to special/ “wow factor “(as the sony zeiss 135 1.8 prime truly is!!!)
3. Still no 1:1 macro lens from fuji….maybe should have include this in the 90 prime lens if possible…
4. all new lens should have been WR…..all old ones (lens, primes, zooms) should be updated/improved continously step by step new with WR after the lens roadmap is completed..old could be sold then as cheaper versions or until the stocks are empty…
5. development of competitve flash system (incl. bodies offering 1/8000, 1/320, base iso 100 atleast or 50 as well ase +/- 5 lv) and new, more powerful flashes
6. tilt and shift lens and a fisheyewould be nice to as special lens
7. better converter/raw converter or cooperation with one manufacturer/software company, adobe creative suite/capture one most pros are using…..
8 16 bit tiff in conversion in bodies
9. double sd card uhs II in every new body
With these thinbgs it would have bveen even harder to resist “fuji as the one cam system and the fuji x factor”
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
i couldn summarize my wishes better…..nearly perfect….
+1
please fuji developers consider these 9 things, make this happen or give this guy a job…..
+ 1 excellent improvements/thoughts
me too!
Next person wants the mentioned 9 things!!!
Why are you still no fuji engineer/lesn or product developer?
I already know the answer….the final decision makers are not the lens engineers or product developers it is the ceo/cfo and or the business admnistreation and marketing department which often dont have any time or use their own products…..that is the major problem in any camera manufacture….fuji is not alone….nikon, sony, canon, oly, panasonic, pentax/ricoh…..
dont get me wrong you have to make money, money money and to have the best possible profit margins but customer satisfaction and customer retentioon can bring you longterm success (will use cams in the future too……)…but the short term success, numbers and thinking is dominating due to stock exchange and shareholders etc….
People want and want all these things but when they’re actually made how many will truly buy them? The camera industry is in steep decline right now. Catering their products to niche forum posters probably isn’t good business sense.
totally agree…and you mean you cannot understand why reto isn t a fuji engineer or product/lens developer yet?
me too i would give him the job and could live with such wise men in fuji’s think tank or developing department…
Great, great summary, I second that!
I’d throw in the wish for some teleconverters, it just adds versatility for every existing lens without too much cost. (And we could have the super teles without waiting until end of 2015 ;-))
– f1.8 is nearly the same as f2 for the 90mm so I see no big deal there. Its not going to affect its “WOW” factor by much if anything.
– WR on all lenses should be a standard feature you right
– A 1:1 macro would be nice.
– No OIS on the 16-55 is not a big deal to me. Optically it will always affect quality and its really only good for static subjects anyway. Nonetheless, some people seem to rely heavily on it.
The rest isn’t going to end up on a lens road map…
another vote for these issues/wishes from brazil….
and please fuji give this guy a job…..cannot have enough competence in your lab/think tank…if you wanna improve further and be the ultimative mirrorless manufacturer…
2cents
i still miss sth. beside the mentioned teleconverters…the old skin tones of the xe1, xpro 1…..the new algorithms/skin tones of the xe2 and xt1 are too plastic imo….maybe the old get lost due to the move in order to enable the 14 bit raw file option…..??? dont know anyone???what is the reason for the lost of old skin tones??
@rico, patrick???
agree on 1st, compleely missed it was w/o IS… was the always like this on the roadmap?
only makes sense if there will be IBIS on the high end bodies, IMHO… hoping.
It was XF 16-55 f/2.8 R OIS WR on the previous roadmap and it’s XF 16-55 f/2.8 R WR on this one.
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Come on, people, get a grip! Fuji is probably not showing us their entire poker hand here. Their lens lineup is not complete yet, we know that. Still, they have a better APS sized lens set than anyone else and it keeps getting better.
You know what would cure this measurebating and artificial angst? Going out there and taking pictures with what you already have and remember why you enjoy photography in the first place!
Mmmm …. I am a bit disappointed about the 120-400 being postponed. For people who take wildlife shots it is an absolute priority, and there is no long lens in the current line up.
That lens is at the end of the line for a reason. DSLR is still king of wildlife. MILCs have the most advantages in the wideangle range.
I think the reason is because there are no lenses, not because of anything else. I shoot wildlife, and I would use the XT1, but there are no long lenses, hence I need a second body just for the long lenses. There is really no other reason.
Big +1 to that. There are no serious limitations that would make it impossible to use the X-T1 for some (if not most) types of wildlife photography. Yes, BIF might be a bit more challenging without the AF sophistication of many DSLRs, however, there are a lot of other “wildlife” targets besides BIF that would suit an X-T1 (for example) just fine.
Given the pretty huge number of DSLR users that are jumping ship, this remains a huge gap in Fuji’s lens lineup and it’s disappointing to me that it’s taking that long for it to be filled. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be more than happy to sell my 7D and 100-400L as go all Fuji just as soon as the 120-400 hits the streets (assuming it’s more or less “affordable” by Fuji standards anyway).
Totally agree. And Patrick’s comment about “no surprises here…?” Really? Did I miss his forecast that the 120-400 was slipping out a full year? I have the range covered with a 7D and 100-400 but was really looking forward to going single system and selling my DSLR and 100-400 before they see a lot more depreciation (likely since both are most likely being replaced later this year). Ahh well, still loving the X-T1.
I never had info about a release date of the 120-400. My comment was about the focal length and aperture of the new lenses, which were all known to FR-readers since months, thanks to the rumors
The release date of the 120-400 was unknown to me, that’s why I worte in the article:
“So what’s new? Well, Fuji gave us an expected availability for the lenses and it seems that the new primes (90 and 16) won’t be weather resistant.”
Did I misread the old roadmap? I distinctly remember this lens listed as late 2014 in prior roadmaps (as a “super tele”), but I may be wrong on that. Can you clarify?
I agree with Jerry. The prior roadmap showed the 120-400 as a “supertele” at the end of 2014.
also the 16-55 2.8 wr was first shown with ois until now…big mistake of fuji to release the standard zoom without stabilization….
Indeed, XF 16-55 f/2.8 R WR has lost its OIS (in-lens stabilisation)… 🙁
true. That’s why I’m super-careful with release dates. 3 of the 4 wrong rumors (until now) in 2014 were about the release date of the 18-135. It is so difficult, that’s why I get more cautious with release dates. Fuji changes them often.
Jerry, Fuji can change the release of gear in any moment… it’s something that drives me crazy when I investigate about 😉
What I wanted to clarify is:
all the lenses (focal lenght & aperture) are well known because of the rumors (and my comment was just regarding the focal lenght and aperture.)
Now, Fuji changed the release date for some lenses, 16-55 and 120-400… (and I wouldn’t be surprised if they change it again).
So:
1) Rumors were correct (focal length and aperture)
2) Fuji changed the release date shown on the previous roadmap (but no announcement date was ever rumored on FR)
Maybe they decided to wait until the XT-2 is released (hopefully with DSLR comparable continuous focus ability) which will really benefit the users of this lens.
All I’d like to see is a 23mm f/2 pancake.
I guess the new X100 will have an excellent one. 😉
Not one that can be mounted on my X-T1
Yes, something similar in performance and size to the X100 lens
Give 90mm by the spring of 2015. Try. )
Based on their history, I would more expect spring of 2016.
50-140 F2.8 and 90mm f/2 Very.nice fuji can i order now?
Any guess on the 50-140 price range ? How much more expensive than the 18-135 just announced ?
USD 1,000-1,500
Anyone heard any news on the shipping date from BH for the 18-135?
Sad to see the longer wait for these new lenses but for they will round out my kit for my type of shooting. AND this announcement is making me rethink the 10-24 even though I like primes better.
Anyone care to point out the best reviews on the 10-24?

Is there any chance, ANY chance at all that the 90 mm could be a 1:1 macro? Yes? YES??
None considering it’s 135mm equiv on ff and there are none 1:1 macro at that focal and Fuji is respecting the equiv in all their lenses. 100, 105, 180 and 200 mm are common 1:1 macro focals on ff. Divide by 1.5 and find out what Fuji lens has to launch.

I just wrote an email to Fuji Japan. They really need to complete their line-up and offer a 1:1 macro lens. At this point I don’t care what focal length it is, but with the amount of serious Nikon and Canon shooters jumping ship to Fuji, macro photography must be taken seriously by Fuji now. Fuji X can do so much more than street…
A T-S lens will also come in handy for serious architecture work. Something like a 16mm f 3.5…
Hi Karina, could you share the letter with us, or even better on g+ (where I follow you 😉 ….)? That way we can mount a campaign , and see whether they react …. I am going to do the same for the 120 – 400 ….
Unfortunately, I wrote it on their online submission form. I didn’t keep a copy for myself. I basically told them exactly what I wrote above – that for a big number of photographers about to jump ship, macro photography is a very important component of their work, and that nobody can take them seriously if they don’t offer a serious macro lens (aka, 1:1).
What’s your name on G+??
I agree…that is one thing I have pretty much given up since jumping ship from Canon to Fuji. That said, I can use my Canon EF100mm f/2.8L IS on my X-Pro 1
good idea! A campaign for tele macro lens. My experience with Fuji is that they try to listen the customers. So I hope that this time the won’t ignore our instance. Which channel is the most direct and effective towards Fuji in your opinion?
Fuji has taken care of the 1:1 macro via Zeiss. At least I’m certain that’s how they are looking at it. So there you have it, a 1:1 macro at 50mm. It’s a great lens, too. I haven’t had many chances to use mine in the last couple of weeks but I’ve been very pleased with it when I have.
WRONG. Clearly you don’t do nature macro. 50mm (75mm FF equiv) is useless for that sort of photography.
Needs to be at least 100mm IMO, and weather sealed is also useful in the field.
WRONG. You clearly don’t know nature photography if you think it’s totally useless.
For 1:1 macro work, do you use AF? I wouldn’t think so. So why don’t you buy the best 1:1 macro available from any lens maker, add a cheap lens adapter from ebay and have your dream lens for less than 1/2 or 1/4 of what Fuji will a$k for its new 90/2 ? Seems like a plan to me…
I really really hope so!
Since the 60 no longer has to serve as both a ‘portrait’ lens and a ‘macro’ lens (and not really be that good at either), they could make that into a real macro. If they make the 90 a 1:1 macro, it will have to be much slower than 2.0 to keep the size down. And will have the same slow, uncertain focus that the 60 does, likely, and the same horrid manual focus behavior.
With a crop system surely it’s logical that the macro lens is not 1:1?
It will definetelly be portrait lens. Classic 135mm focal length and wide aperture. No doubt.
I still think the purpose of a mirrorless system is the smaller size factor compared to a dslr. I would prefer to see smaller lenses like the 18mm or pancake sized 27mm. Even the xe2 with the 18-55 kit lens isn’t so well balanced.
While it would be great to have more small lenses, the purpose of a mirrorless system is more than just being smaller. It is every bit as much about quality as DSLRs. Everyone’s needs are different.
The current roadmap seems very sensible but I do hope they add more pancakes once the other gaps are filled
With syrup please.
I totally agree. The 27mm pancake makes my X-Pro1 literally pocketable and fun to take anywhere. I’d like to have the same for a 16mm and a 40mm lens (both 2.8 would be OK). That would be absolutely awesome. Just dreaming.
Absolutely agree. It seems like there’s an opportunity for a second line of pancakes in the popular focal lengths. I only hope they start making weather resistance standard on both styles! 🙂
Thanks for the links. Some help, I like what Tom presented, Ken is still a total tool! I’m planning on using it for travel and street. so I will have it with me for hours on end. I just worry about size and weight.
100mm f2.8 1:1 macro, weather sealed. Please Fuji.
For me too
Why not 90mm f/2 macro, this lens I miss most
Why tele is zoom? F/2.8 300 mm would be much more useable.
And very large. Compare the Nikon 300 f2.8 to the variable aperture 80-400. Night and day.
Wasn’t the 16-55 f/2.8 originally listed as stabilized? Is this a typo or a change of plan?
I have no experience (yet) with Fuji OIS so don’t know how big of a loss this is (if gone). How effective is it? I have Olympus’ 5 axis as a frame of reference, and find it quite good. As this is a wide zoom, it may be a little less critical and perhaps the size savings will translate to added hand holdability? Or am I looking for a silver lining? As the two WR 2.8 zooms are siblings, it seems odd to remove OIS from just one of them. And both look like lenses conceding some size back for performance, so why cut that corner?
These are highly anticipated additions to the event photog’s kit and OIS would likely be preferable for that customer.
@Patrick any insights?
no news for now
The OIS is 4 stops (18-55), 4.5 stops (55-200) and 5 stops (10-24).
http://photobyandrei.wordpress.com/
Sounds great. I hope this omission was just a typo and not removal of the OIS
I too hope it is a typo, but that does not look good on the guys in Marketing 🙂
Where is the OIS of the 16-55 2,8 WZ standard zoom lens????
It get lost……
What the hell are they thinking??? Are they kiddin’ us?
Fuji???
@Fujirumor:disqus typo?? or true?
If the latter huge, huge mistake and bummer……
Sayonara Fuji…
I don’t know. Will investigate
Is it just me or the timeline is confusing? So, according to the map, end of 2015 (90 f2) comes before winter 2015 (super telephoto zoom). And what kind of graph convention is it to put the x number (2015) at the end of the area supposed to start with it, (if I guessed correctly) but the the previous x numner (2014) at the beginning of its area. Talk about low commitment to a timeline…
2014 and 2015 are straight at the middle of the year. Each year in 2 columns : 204 one narrow one wider, 2015 one wide, one narrower so each “columns is about 6 months
Wish they could hurry up that weather sealed zoom lens (16-55). I was hoping it would be out this Fall. Judging from the road map it looks more like August, but then I could be mistaken those white lines…
