Fuji X70 registered in China!

707070

The X70 is a perfect example about how Fujifilm can plan a new product (and FR sources tell you about), then drop plans (and FR sources tell you about), and then, a few years later, change opinion again and work on the same product again and this time really lauch it (and FR sources tell you about). Makes 2 wrong rumors anyway 😉

I’ve shared the first rumor about the X70 back in September 2013, saying it would be smaller EVF-less X100S.

Well, we are almost in 2016, and the camera might finally come. As spotted by digicame-info, it has been registered at the Chinese radio wave authentication institution. You can download the EXCEL file here.

  1. It also seems to mention something about the X-Pro2 and 2.4GHz. So the X-Pro1 successor will presumably have WiFi. Who would have thought that!

  2. It is not the first time, if memory serves, that the Chinese radio wave authentication institution is used as a source; Do you remember the length of time between registration and release of a product ?

      1. You’re right, that was it; So we can’t use that as an indication of delay … Just that it seems more real 😉

  3. I wonder if not a EVF less version of X100s but a OVF less version. In 2013 I think the x20 was OVF whereas the x30 is EVF only. Either way a none hybrid version with the soon to be older tech in a cheaper package. Sounds like a good idea and boy oh boy would Fuji be making the most of that still very good 16MP sensor. And unlike 2013 it won’t be a rival to the new x200 or whatever it gets called. One last view finder mention, please have a view finder, I need a little diopter adjustment and simple could not use a rear screen only camera.

  4. The X70 has been officially registered, but still no sign of the X-Pro2. Aren’t they supposed to be released at the same time?

    1. That was in 2013 when he first shared that rumour. Now it would be X100T of course. Apart from the VF (which the X70 won’t have) both cameras are nearly identical and Fuji surely wouldn’t sell an X70 with the left-behind FW of the X100S and all it’s annoying quirks when the fixed version is readily available.

  5. that was a great chance to have a 35mm ricoh gr type camera
too bad fuji choose the hard way….28mm is to compete
    with ricoh and nikon…
for much less than 1000usd…not a little less

  6. The Ricoh GR has much to admire. I guess Fuji has a bit of envy. But as a GR owner, I envy Fuji’s VFs. I wish they’d have included an EVF. I’d trade in my GR for that. Attaching an unconnected EVF doesn’t satisfy me.

Size is what really makes the GR. But Panasonic’s GM5 and Sony’s RX100iv demonstrate that a tiny cam can still have all.

No doubt, the Fuji will be excellent. But also a very late to the party “me too,” unless there’s something really differentiated about it that hasn’t been rumored. A coat pocketable medium format, anyone? 🙂

  7. With the constantly improving sensors in cellphones who buys cameras without viewfinders? What’s the point? I know a lot of street photographers look for small compact type cameras but majority of them prefer to look through a viewfinder rather than shoot looking at the damn screen. It’s just not quick enough.
