Sigma shows Art Lenses with Fuji Mount on their Website… but for FinePix S series!

 photo niFu_zpsbd01a6tt.jpg

If you check out Sigma’s Art lenses series, you can get a little confused, because, if you click on the drop down menu where it says “Camera Mount“, there is an option saying “Nikon/Fuji“.

An error? A Freudian Slip? No, as Victor said in the comments, it’s about the older Fujifilm FinePix S-series, which is fully compatible with Nikon’s Nikkor F-series lenses.

But will Sigma ever make Fuji X-mount lenses?

Back in December 2014, Sigma said that they plan to expand their mirrorless lens line-up. But they never said they will produce lenses for the Fuji X-system. And, a part from a new source, I haven’t heard anything reliable about Sigma launching an X-mount line of their lenses.

The problem? For a long time, the very limited market share of the X-series cameras made the Fuji World unattractive for third-party lens manufacturers.

Now the Fuji X-cameras fell into the hands of more photographers, but at the same time the high quality Fujinon lens line-up expanded quickly and will be almost complete in near future… and it’s not easy for Sigma&Co to compete with the Fujinon’s (remember the X-mount Zeiss Touit 32mm and 12mm Flop)

Third party lenses that might have a better chance to sell, are more specialized lenses (like tilt-shift lenses, still missing in the Fuji lens line-up) or those covering focal lenghts not yet offered by Fujifilm, like the Samyang 8mm fisheye lens. On the other hand, the market for those kind of lenses is fairly contained.

The more lens option we X-shooter have, the better. So I hope Sigma will offer an X-mount version of their lenses, like the amazing Sigma 50mm f/1.4, which has almost the IQ of the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 for ¼ of the price!

  1. Oh Yes! I’m absolutely with you! Waiting for a very good 50mm Lens for my Fuji X-Pro 1, including AF 🙂
The Sigma 1,4/50 could be a dream … Fuji 16,23,35 & Sigma 50 on Top … I hope it becomes true, ’cause Fuji has no quality, prime and fast 50mm lens on the Roadmap.

          1. The 56 is surely a great lense, but for me personally, the difference ist to big …. Therefore 56 is not that what I want or needed.

          2. idk if u r just trolling or what. unless it’s wide angle lens, 6mm difference is negligible for that FL.

          3. If that is your opinion, it’s absolutely o.k. … mine is another.
Today I own Minolta 50mm, 55mm and 58mm …. and the results are different
            because of focal length.
So … you are allowed to have your opinion and I want to have mine 🙂

  2. Victor is correct I’m sure. As much as I’d like to see Sigma come and play it probably doesn’t make sense for them to just yet. I think a smaller third party like Tokina might be a good target to get some third party support (with licenses AF, etc.).

  3. The only way to compete with Fujinon is with a (much) better price.

The ART series for DSLRs is great, but only selling as good as it is, because it is MUCH cheaper, than comparable Canikon glas.

Do I need Sigma lenses on X-Mount? No. Would I want them? YES of course!

  4. There are several APSC art lens, which I believe will give Fuji some pressure. But the reality is, we Fuji users probably have to wait for 1-2 years after initial release on Canon/Nikon mount.
