Will the current Metz 44 AF-1 Flash get an update very soon?
_ _ _
According to a New Source, Metz will very soon announce a Fuji X-series compatible version of its Metz 44 AF-1 Flash with on camera TTL capability (and maybe also slave function). The source says, that the guide number will remain the same (44), but there will be the addition of a multi-level LED.
Currently the Metz 44 AF-1 is available for the Nikon/Fuji hybrids, like the S series.
The first X-series compatible Metz flash is the Metz 26 AF-1 (specs & price), anncounced back in October 2014 and which, according to BHphoto here, should be available on December 22.

wuhu flashing like 2005 yeah!!
i am confused : do you mean OFFcamera ttl or ON??
Because if it is ON, I don’t see the point of buying it over fuji ef 42 or the Nissin
I am confused too.
Amazon’s description says:
“Depending on the camera, the Metz 44 AF-1 also offers a slave mode, making wireless TTL flash child’s play…”
Slave mode doesn’t always equal TTL so is it or is it not?
If it does support wireless TLL, will it it supported with Fuji cameras (…Depending on the camera…)?
COMING SOON?
The description at Amazon already says it’s for Fujifilm Cameras
Exactly. Probably just a rebadged version ? Just like Sunpack ?
Metz have always produced flash systems for various mounts. I have a couple with the replaceable SCA mount. Very nice flashes I can tell you
All Metz 44 AF flashes are made in Germany. With the new owner (Daum Group) it looks like the 26AF may also be made in Germany as I heard they shipped the tooling back to the homeland. Daum is “bringing it home to Germany”
It’s not rebadged. It’s a new version of the Metz that is compatible with Fuji X cameras.
The current version that states compatibility with Fujifilm cameras is the Nikon version which is compatible with the Fuji S1, 2, 3 & 5, which are basically Nikon bodies.
Fujifilm yes, but not the Fujifilm X-series. That’s for the Fujifilm S-series. http://amzn.to/1HZtnX9
It’s also written in the short article… but I guess some read just the title
Also Sigma makes Art Lenses for Fujfilm… but again, the S-series: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/art
I know. My comment was more directed at Amazon. They should make it more clear to their customers that the flash does NOT fit an X camera.
How would that compare to the Nissin i40 ?
About 1/3 stop more powerful.
Yeah not really concerned about power though.
Meike was cheaper flash.
I really hope Phottix could enter X-system. Their flashes provide better experiences in handling and operating than Metz and Nissin, at similar prices.
I would like Metz to produce a Fuji X compatible SCA adapter to fit my old 45CL4, 40MZ2 and 32MZ3 flashguns….
A Metz 44 is way too big for the X series.
Even my Nissin i40 feels to large at times.
Both the Metz 40Mz2 and 32Mz3 sit perfectly on the X-E2 and XT-1. They are large, but are well balanced and not as top-heavy compared to something like a Nikon speed light. The Metz45(not44!) is great for off camera flash work. An SCA adapter to connect a TTL cable would be really useful for some of the jobs I do… In any case, the regular Auto sensor(that doesn’t require a SCA adapter) works just fine anyway, so the adapter is just a nice to have, not a necessity..
Look at Meike Mk320 Mk320-f TTL Speedlite for Fujifilm Digital SLR Cameras+ Free Diffuser – available on Amazon through another seller, Voking Digital… for $80. I have one of these. It is good enough, with decent build (in a relative sense) more power and better controls than anything Fuji currently makes. Check it out.
proprietary TTL metering, what a waste.
i wish there could be an open standard using bluetooth or wifi ! Yes it is 2016 soon
Without HSS it’s a waste of time – the i40 can do all of this in a smaller package.
This isn’t an announcement with comprehensive specs, it’s a rumour!
Is the power 44 M ? I assume
Yes … 44m at ISO100 and 105mm Zoom
