I am new to the X-System and just picked up the 14, 27 and 35 and saved 600. Thanks.
I have a D7100 and bought the E-M1. Wasn’t happy with the files so I returned it. Then X-T1 announced and it addressed almost all of my “wish list” for the X-E2. I preordered it within 5 minutes of orders opening so here’s to hoping these lenses aren’t sitting around for too long without a body. Now to put the Nikon and lenses up for sale. Keeping my film Nikons though 😀
Heres my 5 pence worth…. I had a D7000 , swapped it for a EM5 was delighted but could tell the files even at base ISO were much noiser than the D7000 – RAW that is. ( I only shoot raw on all my cams, except x100 ) although high ISO was about the same.
I then swapped the EM5 for a D600 , resolution and resolving power, high ISO was awesome, I got rid of the D600 and got a XE1, my reason being I wanted to take my camera out more with me, i found i never took the d600 out and about, so got an XE1. Initially disappointed as going back to 16mb i couldnt crop as much and the XE1’s files took more Raw processing to get the ‘look’ i wanted.
Now after 4 months I finally got ‘used’ to processing the fujis’s raws and when i compared a shot taken on 50mm prime on the d600 and XE1 set to 35mm with 18-55mm on a bright sunny day, I used photoninja and then even looking at both at 100% pixel peeping i was very happy with the output from the XE1 the detail is different but its there, the look is different but in a good way.
You might miss the 24mp but you gain a lot more, and with Fuji’s range of lenses your getting very good IQ, Might lose fine detail on 100% and some on High ISO, but its a great system.
From looking at the XT1 the RAW files should be same or slightly better than XE2, maybe try out in a shop and pop your sd card into a XE2 shoot some RAW’s and see if your happy with the output, or keep your D7100 for Birding with Long tele lenses. But from a D7000 – XT1 its a no-brainer although expensive move 🙂 Hope some of that made sense lol
Any option given is fine. But, my thinking on this is 1) I don’t benefit much from the pancake style lens given the way I carry my gear, always with at least one extra lens and in a backpack. 2) They are all great lenses but the 23/1.4 is a class above the 27mm in quality and capability.
So I rule out the 27mm, not because it’s a bad lens, but, the benefits it provides are not street specific. They are all about desperate compactness.
Then deciding between any X camera + 23mm vs the X100s is almost a wash. The reason is that the X100s brings some advantages that are not in any other APS-C X camera. Mainly the silence. It’s almost impossible to hear the shutter on it. The other thing is the viewfinder, if you like the OVF, it has it, and no X lens can give that to you. If you’re shooting with the X-Pro1, you already have this (though slightly lower quality).
And the X100s is definitely smaller than, say, an X-E2 + 27mm while still being at least f/2 vs. the 27mm’s f/2.8.
All that said, I still don’t personally benefit much from those unique aspects of the X100S so I ultimately go with the 23mm.
And I can’t ignore that already owning the 23mm impacts this decision 🙂 It’s a wonderful lens and there is something of a threshold between 35mm f/2.8 and 35mm f/2 equivalent capabilities. I would not like to be stuck at the f/2.8 equivalent or worse. To me, the 23/1.4 is the minimum brightness I need in a wide-normal prime.
Both I have the X100 classic and now upgrading to the XT but would never sell the classic. X100s is about the cost of one lens. But if I had to pick and you ONLY shoot street, the X100s then. Far more stealth.
I appreciate those that took the time to give feedback. I’m currently shooting with the X-Pro 1, but the size and weight of the 23mm make me wonder if I’m better off with an X100/X100S.
Get x100s ìf you can afford. Ìf you already own a X- camera and are still rich, get 23mm. 27mm is just compact pancake lens but nowhere near quality of 23mm. Ignore crap about it being cheap. $200 ís not cheap.
I used x100s about half year and really love it. Recent trip to NYC with my heavy Nikon D800 and D600 really made me think to switch to fuji system. Used the link just ordered 14mm 23mm 35mm 56mm 50-200mm Adorama & XT1 with Kit lens from B&H. Hope this can help bit, and thanks for your sleepless work and timely update!
I am interested in these deals but I am unable to complete the orders at the moment.
As I have never participated in similar deals before I am wondering what would happen if these would be sold-out during the rebate period ?
Would the business (BHPhoto in this case) still honour the deals within he period you have reported on (i.e. until March 22nd) ? or this simply on a first come first serve basis ?
I can answer for Amazon. If it allows you to place the order, they will honor the price. In fact, if the price went further down (from Amazon themselves, not a third party seller) before the item shipped, you would get that lower price in most cases. But at the very least, you’ll get the price advertised at the time you placed the order.
Well, sadly the E1 Kit price of $719 is for black only version. At both Amazon and Best Buy the Silver version is still $799. Wonder why they chose to do that…
Just ordered the 35mm from BH to get the extra 4% savings. Was tempted to buy it from Canada for much less, $200 rebate plus favorable exchange rate to the US but that means no warranty and a long wait. Anyway, now I have the 14, 35, 18-55, 55-200, 8mm fisheye and 90mm F/2.8 Tamron adaptall 1:1 macro. Good to go!
Thanks for the info, I always wanted to have more detials on this.
However, if you order from Amazon US as a German customer you already get the final price in € displayed (including shipping, taxes and fees). For the 55-200 it currently is 496,33€ – so I guess it is well worth it.
I keep seeing “rebate period” about how long these prices are, but it seems pretty vague. Does anyone know if this is a limited time sale or a price drop?

@ AdelphosChaz Would be interesting to see what you think of your X-T1 vs D7100. I am going to sell my D7000 for an X-T1 so in a similar boat!

Awesome thanks for that Chris! When I sell all my Nikon kit I will come out with some $$…until I splash out and get the 16-55 or 50-140 2.8…
Used to the link to order the 55-200. Used the link the other day to order two of the X-T1’s.
Thanks a lot! Your support is essential to keep this blog running.
Awesome. 27mm purchased through the link – cheers Patrick!
Purchased the 23 and 27, thanks again Patrick.
23mm, 27mm or X100S for shooting street?
if size doesn’t matter, the xf 23mm is sharper, and will perform better in low light.

ordered a lens with b&h at the strike of 12:11am EST, when the sale price finally took affect.

They have less to sell, On hand to sell. who knows. I do know the Back ones shoot great photos too so paying less will get you more!
Sadly again no deals for Europe…
@Europe
Take a look at Amazon.co.uk
There i.e. is the XF23mm for about 700€ available, not that bad 😉
I just checked but it is £ 839 which is € 1000.
I’m sorry. I was totally wrong. Maybe it was something like my burning desire :-{
So then it would be interesting to pay any taxes and customs duty buying it in USA …
I think there was a European lens rebate offer a few months back. I guess it is time for a US sale.
Just ordered the 35mm from BH to get the extra 4% savings. Was tempted to buy it from Canada for much less, $200 rebate plus favorable exchange rate to the US but that means no warranty and a long wait. Yeah! got my 23 and 35. next up 56 and whatever the new ultra wide will be. On the new XT that is a kit to last a many years
Bower 8mm for Fuji X mount seems like a good buy at $269 too.
Wellp… There goes all my money.
Hi,
I’m from germany and wondering if it makes sence to buy the 55-200 from USA. Has anybode from europe experience with it?
Thanks.
Jo
The formula is: [(Warenwert + Versandkosten) * Zoll]* EinfuhrUmsatzsteuer
Einfuhrumsatzsteuer is 19%
Custom Duty (Zoll):
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric/taric_consultation.jsp?Lang=de
is for lenses between 25mm and 150mm: 6,7%
(Ask German Zoll for Details)
Thanks for the info, I always wanted to have more detials on this.

Anyone know why the silver X-E2 is more expensive then the black one? That doesn’t make any sense.
I keep seeing “rebate period” about how long these prices are, but it seems pretty vague. Does anyone know if this is a limited time sale or a price drop?
According to the charts in a previous post a lot of these deals on XF lenses end in March.

A little off topic, but any thoughts on when there might be a X100S sale?
