5 years X-series Celebration! Big Fuji Photo Contest until Nov. 30. Winner announcement + Exhibition in mid-January

 photo ajsdb_zps7affkft9.png

The X series line-up began in March 2011 with the introduction of the Fuji X100. Now Fujifim decided to celebrate the 5 years X-series anniversary with a worldwide contest, launched via fujifilm-x.com. Join the contest by submitting your photo, and you might be on of the lucky 100 winners, whose picture will be also displayed at the big Fuji photo exhibition in January 2016 at the Fuji Headquarter… and winner of a prize worth $300!

“Fujifilm will be hosting a photo exhibition at their Headquarters in Tokyo to showcase the passionate and creative photography works of 100 renowned professional “X-Photographers” along with 100 professional or enthusiast “X-Users”.

Fujifilm invites X series users from around the globe to join the celebration and take part in the contest by submitting their favorite photo taken on an X series camera for entry.

A total of 100 photos will be selected by a judging panel of professional photographers, printed by Fujifilm experts and then displayed at the photo exhibition in January, 2016“

I really really really really would love to be there to see the exhibition, but even if I could fly to Tokyo, I doubt anyone of the Fuji Guys would be happy to see me at their Headquarters.

So I’ll stay here at the FujiRumors headquarter, a rented 65 square meter apartment, hoping to be able to make my own party… by … who knows, maybe pre-ordering the Fujifilm X-Pro2 😉 .

good luck to all of you,

  1. I don’t think that a lot of professional and the better kind of fine-art oriented amateur photographers are prepared to sacrifice their intellectual property to a Fujifilm’s HQ contest for a ‘possible’ prize of only 300$. So what will be exposed will be mostly dogs & cats and grand-father nipping of his soup, really not worth to take the plane to Tokio. Can’t Fuji do any better in such a campaign… and make a full-blown X-Pro2, packed with a beautiful special ‘X-photo-contest edition’ leather halfcase & strap and a few decent lenses to be won?

    1. Lot of very good amateur photographers post their work on Flickr and never get a penny. I don’t expect them to not enter a competition because the price is only $300.

    2. … sacrifice their intellectual property … for a ‘possible’ prize of only 300$.

It’s one (1) photograph only, not your whole portfolio. Plus, for much of the world $300 is a whole heap of cash.

  2. At the very least Fuji should send you (Patrick) a first class plane ticket to Tokyo to thank you for the millions of dollars worth of free publicity you have given them over the years. And only $300 will go to the winner of the contest? Fuji can’t afford to give away an X-Pro2 and a lens to the winner? Wouldn’t that make the contest a thousand times more exciting than a lousy $300?

    1. Fuji pay me a first class ticket to Tokyo? Recently Fujifilm asked €152 from me to repair the bending side door… that’s why today my X-T1 has a gaffertape on it 🙂 . I tell you, they won’t give me ever anything for free… and probably it’s good this way. So I’m free to write also articles like this: http://www.fujirumors.com/my-main-2-complaints-about-the-fuji-x-t1/

X-Pro2? Promise to give away a product that officially still does not exist (except in FujiRumor’s wonderland) is not really possible.

  3. $300 – is that all? Not even a lousy X camera for the 3 first winners?
Wow, they have a million dollar budget for advertising and they cannot even give away 3 cameras? That is small- minded…

    1. Am I the only one, who thinks that getting paid $300 for submitting one single image is a good deal?

with one image, uploaded in 1 minute, I could acutally earn as much money as I earn by working 6 days at school 🙂

      1. > Am I the only one, who thinks that getting paid $300 for submitting one single image is a good deal?

        yes.

        1. I guess I see it from an amateur/enthusiast point of view, who never got paid a single penny for one of his images 😉

  4. It’s like getting a free Coke if you win Wimbledon.

    What about the expenses for
    – renting equipment, a location, a model
    – driving hours to a cool location & staying overnight
    – paying for a good monitor for post-editing
    – paying for propriety software
    – making free time to get the shot done (which you could have used to make money otherwise)

    – what about all the years you put into learning and practicing photography so that you would eventually be able to win a competition one day? Which prize reflects this kind of expenses?

And these expenses should all be covered by US$300?
Or was Fujifilm thinking about a backyard cat/flower/sunset snapshot competition?

    Fujifilm lost face. Terrible.

    1. You’re not starting anything for them,
we’re already photographers, are we not? So you simply pick an image that you’re proud of and would want displayed, while they’ll take care of the print and exhibition opportunity, for which apparently all of the chosen photographers will even be rewarded $300 each.

    2. If you NEED all this

      – renting equipment, a location, a model
      – driving hours to a cool location & staying overnight
      – paying for a good monitor for post-editing
      – paying for propriety software
      – making free time to get the shot done (which you could have used to make money otherwise)

to make a shot, then maybe, just maybe, you’re either in the wrong business or this contest is not for you.

      Just a thought

  5. I think many have misunderstood the terms of the competition. It’s not a single winner receiving $300. Instead all 100 being choosen for the exhibition will receive $300 each.
This means the total prize money is $30,000,-. That’s quite a lot of money, and much more than the cost for let’s say giving away 3-5 cameras.
Instead of a few winning a big prize Fujifilm are giving away 100 smaller but still good prizes.

    1. I guess the total prize money ($30,000) won’t be divided by 100.
We do not know how this total prize will be distributed. Maybe the first three will receive an X-Pro2 and the last 50 an Instax… We’ll see.

  6. Hi all, I’ve never participated in such contests, one quick question, are pictures submitted allowed editing? Or just keep it original? Thank you.

  7. Hi all, I’ve read the rules fully, but didn’t understand some of them clearly. Do photographers really, like ChatNoir said, “sacrifice their intellectual property” of their photos? Besides, are photos submitted allowed to edit? Or just keep them original? Thank you.
