  1. Does anyone know if the NEX-7 is even still relevant. I mean you can still buy an A6000 for just a slightly higher price. Is there any reason to like the 7 more?

    1. 24 MEGA PICKLES, for those who’re into that sorta thing.

I think it’s still very relevant. I got into photography right before it came out, the 3-navi was how I learned. It’s a stellar camera, fantastic for macro work, especially with that new 90mm.

    2. I would never get another one because I have a a6000 but some people prefer the tri navi and the old shoe. I can still do great work with it but only if it was 200.00 I only paid 350.00 for my a6000 after selling the kit lens. There is something about the nex-7 that I do like and that is the images at base iso compared to the a6000. I would not say it has a better sensor but it reminds me of my a900 and I loved that camera.

    3. well, the two dials at top are nice for aperture and s.s, other than that the menu layout, lack of custom buttons and not having the ability to run applications from playmemories makes it pretty antiquated. still takes nice pictures though.

    4. EVF is higher resolution than A6000 – although real wold benefits are questionable. 6000 EVF is good – Tri-Crapi makes it a no go for me, would only take if near free.

      1. OK, thanks for you input. I have read your thoughts and others and I think I will wait for something better. Maybe after A7000 is announced there will be some sales on A6000.

    5. A6000 has eclipsed it in everything except build quality. Its IQ isn’t that great for a Sony sensor, either (lower than the 16MP NEXs).

    6. + Mic input
      + EVF has higer resolution
      – EVF has more lag
      – much slower AF
      – old crappy Minolta hotshoe, incompatible to everything else

go for A6000, Nex7 isn’t worth this much money

    1. I encourage you to find the buyer and provide to them a refund for the difference in price. Yes, go forth…

  2. In August it will be 4 years! since its debut. Not 2,5 years as Andrea said.
Not only that, but the official price for NEX-7 was $500 long time ago, so if it’s now $750 off – that means they have to pay you $200 if you take it for free.
IMHO I wouldn’t even take it for free. It’s so old. 4 years!

    1. I took it over a6000. By far better evf, plus tri-navi, level gauge, mic input…

IQ is not worse than that on a6000.

      1. AF is nowhere near as good. Issues with wide angle lenses (purple vignetting). A little worse high ISO. But it’s a good camera if you don’t need fast AF and you don’t use non native wide angles.

        1. I guess all you people shoot is stray cats that attack you out of nowhere.

I don’t shoot formula one and even if I did, I would prefocus.

There is no problem with NEX7 autofocusing.

  3. Kind of a pathetic attempt at bloating discount numbers as usual on this site, by using the MSRP price from when the item was released several years ago.

    1. Are you feeling bloated after seeing that price? I know I am, or maybe it was that steak I just had….

    2. Was it on a smaller price drop before was it selling at close to the original price until this price drop?

  4. It’s summer. The sky is blue and the weather is warm. I think it’s a good time for a $300 price drop in the a7ii, don’t you agree, Sony?

  5. I have the nex7 for two years, and i can say that it is a good camera. I use it for work, not for fun, and i made some money with it. I’m from a relatively poor country, but i maintain my family (two kids) with this one.Of course i have some lenses for it,not just the kit one. However it’s not so good for video work. Sory for my bad english.

    1. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ bout!

Awesome Joca! You’re an inspiration to all. Just awesome man!

I read this on my phone earlier and wanted to rush back to my computer to say thanks for that story. Very cool man. Best wishes.

  6. I already Purchased two at that price I paid $999 just for the Body back in the day when the Kit was running $1299.99. I already had a 5R so I had lenses. So figured it was time to get a backup and a gift for my Sister. She wanted this so bad back then, she will be surprised. No Matter what still a Great Camera and the Build Quality is Superb. I am still hoping Sony will make a NEX-7 Replacement. I don’t want a Full Frame Like the 7 series due to the Cost of Lenses and the size of the Lenses.

  7. This is a good deal, especially considering the “duty-free” (and “warranty-free”)deals of China aren’t much better or are actually a little worse.

  8. Don’t underestimate nex7. I’m D4 and D810 user, I still find NEX7 is a very impressive camera. Build quality is unbelievably good (let me repeat, I own pro body D4. Nex7 build quality is really that good). I still wouldn’t replace my nex7 with a6000. A6000 may have better AF but nex7 AF hasn’t let me down.

  9. I’ve had Nex7 since Aug2012 and I use a D800 for work and a D90. The Nex7 I use for everything else. I use my Nikon Primes with a Lens Turbo and its amazing.

Tri Navi helps to move the focus point around quick and get to other settings without going into the menu which kinda blows but I’m used to it now so no problems. Haven’t had any issues with EVF lag even when I’m shooting manual focus under moonlight outside at the carnival. IT’s tricky as it is to nail focus manually on moving subjects much less in such low light but ISO 1600 is no problem.

IF you really want the build of the NEX7 and the tri-navi thats pretty much the only reason to get it. Though having had it for so long I went to the store to hold the A6000 and it really just doesn’t feel solid.

I hope Sony comes out with a good replacement. in the same Nex7 Body style only slightly thicker like 3-5mm on all sides is no problem would be usefull too to stuff in some goodies like stabilization and weather sealing and beefier cooling for 4K video.

  10. The solid reasons to buy a NEX 7 over A6000 are the higher res EVF, build quality and stereo mic input for video if you use external mics that aren’t Sony. My wife has taken my NEX7 as a hand me down and then the A6000 when the NEX7 power button started sticking/failing.

  11. Did Sony ever acknowledge the NEX7 sensor overheating issues? Mine shut down after 6 minutes of continuous video shooting every time.

The IQ, resolution and build quality of this camera were great, especially given its age, and still are.

Deal breakers for me were the sensor overheating, the terrible menu system, the non standard “tri navi” that didn’t get used anywhere else (so no muscle memory between cameras) and the Minolta hot shoe. And the serious lack of lenses, at the time I sold mine.

Get an A6000. The NEX7 isn’t a bargain at any price unless AF speed, video, flash and overall usability don’t matter to you.

  12. Four years old and already obsolete for most people … well, that’s certainly an development in photography! In a couple of years you earn compassionate looks from your photo tour buddies because your bring the same camera as last time.

  13. Now it appears as “discontinued”. Please let the a7000 come to life soon, and let it have internal 4K will full sensor readout (no line skipping), slog2, and maybe also IBIS.
