(SR5) New Hasselblad “Lusso” E-mount camera leaks in China. It’s a Sony A7r clone!

Hasselblad_LUsso

Hasselblad China just posted the first image of the new “Lusso” camera. This is a “luxurified” Sony A7r clone camera! It is NOT based on the newly announced Sony A7rII. Real world images of the camera can be seen on my previous SAR post.

Current Hasselblad Sony clones are:

  1. For Hasselblad to keep releasing all these ridiculous cameras, there must be people buying them. I don’t understand this.

    1. the funny thing is the first one sounded very much like the word lunatic and now this one is very close to the word loser???

  2. Well now we know what Sony does with their surplus of models that are being updated: turn them into Hassies. 🙂

  3. They could just make screw on wooden grips for Sony mirrorless cameras. That way it wouldn’t be quite so ridiculous.

  4. How hard could it be to make something crazy like a digital X-pan, why they don’t work on somethin in that line?

  5. It is sad how the once proud, pristine and professional elite have become a senseless fashion statement ~ AKA “Clueless”… The mighty have fallen… What a disgrace…. Hasselblad used to be the epitome of photography, but now it seems Hasselblad is seen as a joke… Even for a medium format solution, for which they were known for, seems to have been lost. When I think about medium format now, I think Phase One, Mamiya, and Pentax/Ricoh before Hasselblad, Heck, I even thing about Contax and Bronica before Hasselblad.

  6. I guess at the price they are paying for them, they onlky need to sell 10 cameras to exceed budget. They must be selling because they continue to make them.

  7. All one has to do is wait for the prices to drop to rock bottom levels like it did with the Lunars.

Oh well…alternatively one could perhaps pick up a cheaper prices A7r after August when A7rII will hit the market.

Is there really a justifiable market for such products? Strange world we live in.

    1. In China you could already get the a7r dirt cheap off warranty, this is the thing I love most about this place…

  8. I admire Hassy’s new trend with the cameras to make us scratch our heads wondering “would I be buying this if I had ten million dollars?”

  9. Isn’t this a bit late to the show, especially with the announcement of A7R II.
If anyone is interested by any chance, can get it 90% off in 6 moths time.

    1. The Stellar when on sale is still useful as a gift, but this would probably be too expensive as a gift even when on sale…

  10. As much as I disagree with what they are doing. I have to admit, it is damn good looking camera.I wish Sony would implement such ergo and design.

  11. Lusso is Italian for Luxury, if anybody wonders.
And luxury often means excessive expense, which is a good description of these H-blad Sony remakes. So to buy this Lusso one must have a Lunar mind and a Stellar income…

  12. A wood grip, dial knob covers and quadruple the price of the original hardware. Well, that’s one way to get rid of the old A7r stock now that the new model is out. It’s either having to heavily discount the old camera now that there is a new model or, finding a way to sell it as a collectors item. I think if Hasselblad’s road map is to continue ruining their reputation, they are doing an awesome job. I just wonder why they went thru the trouble of changing the company’s CEO recently. Clearly the “new” dude is as brilliant as the previous genius headmaster:)

    1. A dying company that is profitable and has actually had profit growth since they started rebranding Sony cameras. I guess with such outrageous prices, they really only need to sell a couple cameras to make it worthwhile.

      1. Any profit derived from these joke cameras is shortlived and will evaporate as the novelty of making fun of Hasselblad wears off.

  13. In other news Bentley is introducing it’s new Yugly line of luxury automobiles. They’ve pimped a 1985 Yugo with a discreet yet tasteful plastic hood ornament and other subtle Bentley design details. Taking a cue from Sony’s marketing department the car features 11+7 MPG.

      1. And within months Nikon replaces the camera for every single D600 owner with a brand new D610 for absolutely free.

Sony hasn’t even acknowledged the 3 top problems with the A7r, yet alone remedied them. It’s been 18 months now.

        1. We loose scores of top professional photographers to Canon every year because of our poor quality control and abysmal NPS after the fact customer care!

  14. I did not find the “Lusso” luxurious enough.. Decided to wait for the “Hasso” which will be based on the A7RII..

  15. I would be so embarrassed to be seen with a Hasselblad camera. It’s the kind of thing you see, and compliment sarcastically, just to see if they try to justify it.

    1. I wish to be embarrassed to be seen with a Hasselblad camera every day since 2013-2014 I made $225 000.00 on two accounts using H4D-50.

BTW using this camera is a joy.

  16. I know a lot of folks think this is the dumbest idea on the planet and Im not one to disagree either but the real point of these Hassy knockoffs is the Asian Market. Its not for Joe Smith in Kansa City. The Asian market there are a ton of camera collectors looking for items like this. Leica goes after this market in a heavy way and so does Hassy. It seems silly to us but there is a void in Asai for camera collectors with a lot of money to burn on this stuff.

  17. Oddly enough, that Hasselblad HV is really not a bad deal. It’s basically $4000 for an A99 body ($2000) plus a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA ($2000) and a bit of ‘prestige’ ($whatever that’s worth to you).

  18. Admin could dial back the exclamation points. I suggest saving them for something truly exciting, like the real Sony announcements of cameras or gear that changes how we shoot or what we can do.

    1. Because they can buy the left over parts from Sony at low price
and just redesign the body & sell it at premium price.
There are many rich guy in the world willing to buy this rubbish.

      1. What’s the difference between a Cadillac Escalade and a GM Suburban?? the price and some re-design! Escalade uses ‘left-over’ parts of the Suburban? Don’t think so.
The same happens with Sony & Hasselblad. That makes the Hasselblad ‘rubbish’? Those cameras are still prestigious SONY cameras! Read the reviews!

  19. It is all for the rich and famous. Because a rich person would say “I can’t go out hanging a $3200 camera like that, my fellow friend would think I’m a peasant! thank god I have a sane alternative with the price to reflect my status”

  20. Billionaires don’t shop at B&H or Amazon and luxe goods stores don’t carry Sony. Hassy caters to the crowd looking for more exclusivity. A quick glance at the Nieman Marcus website shows camera cases ranging from $500-1490. If you’re not buying a tiny piece of leather with a logo for $1490, then you aren’t the target market for this camera.

People can mock them, but they’ve been doing this for years, so I’m guessing it’s working pretty well as development costs are minimal compared to building the internals. If this is what it takes to keep a small company like Hassleblad afloat, then I’m all for it.

  21. Do they use new Sony cameras,or used ones when people have upgraded to the new ones?
    Or maybe refurbished?

  22. Hasselblad never can be the worst camera of the year if you read the reviews of their SONY counterparts…they’re ALL praised into heaven. I can go along with ‘knock-offs’, expensive replicas or even ‘old-school’ technology (because they’re ALWAYS a model behind the new Sony’s). But NOT rubbish and/or bad cameras.

  23. WHY is everybody pissing on HASSELBLAD?? SONY remakes by Hasselblad, and?

    what about the LEICA?? Anybody??
    http://www.dpreview.com/products/leica

DP ReviewAll Leica’s compact cameras, with the exception of the large-sensor X1, are rebadged versions of current (or recent) Panasonic models, with minor cosmetic and …
