Maybe firmware update(s) for the x100s?
Fuji is handling the tether situation completely wrong. just let it have light room and capture one native support
+1 the only reason I have Nikon is cause of native tethering.. once c1 or lr do this then it’s bye bye Nikon
Same reason I can’t get rid of my Canon 5d Mark III
“5 Things Fuji is doing Horribly Wrong” … Oh, please. Threads like that are the reason I don’t belong to photography forums anymore, as it’s all a load of dung as the thread starter (and many of the other posters) have (a) not read the manual and (b) apparently know very little about the real nitty-gritty of photography. For example, spotmetering will (nearly) always give you a “wrong” exposure; that’s why you need to understand the Zone System to get it right.
Fuji only does one thing wrong. It sells camera’s to people who don’t
have a life. But you see the same people on all gear boards. It doesn’t
matter what sort of gear. If it is photography, BBQ, cars or any other
subject. They live to complain. And you know what? You hardly see them
post pictures anywhere.
Some people like to argue. I sure do, it is a nice exercise. You, on the other hand, seem to like to judge.
Nope, I argue stupid posts about what Fuji does wrong all the time. But in your opinion arguing is immediately judging when it doesn’t fit your opinion. Must be in the name I guess..
Sigh, judging yet again. Maybe you should check what arguing means, it is certainly not insulting people. And just to let you know – you are doing exactly what you are blaming people for – complaining.
These rumor sites have always been about gear, I don’t understand what you are so surprised about. People talk about technology, economics and whatnot. While the thread name is a bit strong, it is certainly a valid discussion. Yet, for you, those who want to discuss are apparently people who don’t have a life (yet live to complain) and don’t take photos. Great argument, mate!
Why do you bother to talk to me than if you call me judging mr. Vlad. I have an opinion and that is that I think this website is more about complaining than about rumors and discussing the technology. You are insulting me by your patrionizing attitude calling me judging. And I’m not your mate mister. So stop bothering me.
I am simply arguing, I did say I enjoy it. And me being patronizing is the inevitable result of your own attitude. Do note that I’ve been significantly more polite throughout our discussion.
And I’m arguing too if you let me. I responded on “Five Things Fuji is doing horribly wrong“.
I have been reading this topic and it is first of all not correct. And second of all I wonder why people who seem to be in the Fuji bashing business ever bought a Fuji camera in the first place. Seriously. Check all responses on the topics on this website. Almost every topic has at least a “come on Fuji get me a better camera soon or I die” response. Don’t you think that is childish? It has nothing to do with discussing a product. You attack me on my attitude and that you can do. I can deal with that. But I can give my opinion about other peoples attitudes too.
That I understand and agree with. On all points. And I sometimes can be an opinionated complainer myself, I admit. I simply don’t take much of what is written here, including my own stuff, too seriously. But I do understand that it can be tiring to read through all of the negativity.
Than we basically agree. Maybe I take it too serious. But sometimes it gets annoying to read the same things over and over again 😉
We definitely agree 🙂
Forums about BBQ? What do they discuss? WiFi-enabled briquettes?
You would be surprised what people spent on BBQ as serious hobby 😉 Can easily buy a few Fuji camera’s if your into competitions.
Well, as long as it keeps them off the streets, right?
Yep, although that goes for most photo gear enthusiasts also 😉
Observation: Fuji users that produce great photos do not complain much or at least have reasonable constructive feedback. Fuji users that have subpar photos complain the most. Maybe it’s just they are subpar photographers????? Just sayin….
I agree. I see the most beautiful pictures in the Fuji groups on Flickr. I hardly see any of these discussions there.
500px has great work as well and any discussion is helpful
True, I like 500px also.
Yeah, spot gives you a meter reading to achieve zone 5. Spot the shadow and it will be washed out, spot highlights and it will under expose. Spot shadow and adjust exposure by minus 2-3 stops depending on level of detail required and you should be cooking on gas!
I believe that might be the reason why he suggested to manually set the meter to other zones than 18% grey. I don’t know whether this is a practical solution, but it would allow for precise metering.
“5 Things Fuji is doing Horribly Wrong”
1. X-Trans. Each new colour array filter that Fuji puts in cams is worse than previous. X-Trans2 renders arificial colours with details washed out. No sensor improvement in new cameras.
2. Not bringing new features to X-E2 with firmware updates and no plan for X-E3 – it loses users.
3. Making bigger and bigger new lenses – it loses users.
4. Too much marketing about its cameras or features – it ruins Fujis credibility.
5. Pooooooooooooor flash – it’s in Middle Ages.
Sweet. Your posting shows that ranting away and complaining is one essential ingredients of the internet. Virtually all cameras today are technical miracles, it is possible to make huge prints at high quality with every camera from m43 upwards.
But I guess not enough for you…
Hi!
1. I find it’s easily possible to make superb images with X-Trans even if I still have plenty of personal skills to improve.
2. No other manufacturer releases more firmware updates than Fuji so where would all those users go?
3. I don’t see how making brand new lenses makes people want to go away.
Plus, Fuji already has plenty of small lenses you can choose from. No?
And I don’t think it’s currently possible to make a 90mm+ pancake lens.
4. Not sure I get this one…
5. I agree that flash support could be better.
+1
and now Sony sensor in XPro 2.
George, it’s actually quite funny. When someone posts without an avatar I don’t usually read their name.
So I start reading this BS about X-Trans II being completely different and a lot worse compared to X-Trans I and I immediately know who wrote it. I look at the name and – sure enough – it’s our friend George, the X-Trans hater who always claims things but never delivers proof… So that was 1.
2. It’s planned but – I agree – very late compared to what X-T1 has gotten. Significantly cheaper body though. Should have instead gotten updates earlier and for an upgrade price.
3. Though I agree that more smaller lenses are needed (56 f2 and 23 f2 after the 35 f2) there already are some nice small lenses that don’t change their size because Fuji introduces large new ones. Those large ones are also important even if they aren’t for you.
4. Bla, bla, bla. Whatever.
5. Flash in the middle ages was called fire 😉 Let’s not exaggerate too much, okay? It might not be great but can be used well (and often better) on manual. Just like every other flash system in the world.
Jano, you are very perceptive 🙂 yes I hate X-Trans2, but not only me, there are many Fuji users who claim the same. I used X-E1 and X-E2 + X-T1 for a while, and I keep now only X-E1 because it renders colours more natural than last two cams, especially greens which are the worst and most artifical that I have seen in any camera + pushed magneta cast + fast clipped reds that I have not experienced in X-E1. You have to put more effords in PP to bring colours to natural stage than with files produced by X-Pro1/X-E1. But they all still look more artifical than before when so called “beautiful Fuji colours” arised – it was in X-Pro1/X-E1 time, but X-E2/X-T1 spoiled them.
About too much Fuji marketing that ruins its credibility….I sustain what I wrote. If you compare what features Fuji cameras offered vs cameras of other makers, you will note that Kaizen is a pure marketing only because so called “improvements” that Fuji brought with new firmware updateds corrected very poor performance and characteristics Fuji made in its new cameras, i.e. AF performance – one of the weakest in mirrorless competition. Have you tried Panasonic/Oly or A6000 AF performance? They were great when these cams were brought to the market, but Fuji had to corrected AF a few times during 2-3 years with new firmware updates to reach suitable level. Kaizen correts what Fuji’s engineers f..ked up. Do you know how many Custom functions other makers offer? 2-3. And Fuji? No one. Do you know how many dirrect Fn buttons offers others? 3-4. And Fuji? 1 only. Do you know there is standard 1/3 or 1/2 stop bracketing for years? Would you believe Fuji offers in 2015 1 stop bracketing only?! Do you know that other makers offer +/-5 NR seting + Off but Fuji is deaf on many users requests to bring Off NR because even with -2 jpgs files are washed out? Do you know Fuji’s flash system is amazingly poor? That’s right, in many fields Fuji is in Middle Ages. You can call me troll if you want, but I see rather more blind Fuji fanboys here and on new Fuji X forum than Fuji haters.
George, please check my previous postings on FR. I am definitely one of the more critical readers here and I’ve taken quite some beating for expecting Fuji to fix those bugs/stupidities in my X100S.
So I absolutely agree with much of your criticism. It’s just that Fuji has other reasons we love their cameras despite the areas where they are clearly behind.
It’s just that we could take you more seriously if you didn’t ONLY rant and tell us that the A7000 will be so much better than anything Fuji will make. And finally provide some sample images (exactly the same scene shot with E1 & T1) to support your claims. All I’ve read from reviewers says they are close to identical.
I did not mean you directly because I often notice your objective criticism. I may sound more critical than I am…. but there are many things I like in Fuji – especially RF type cams – for ergononics, design, control, menu and for this pleasure I have when keep X-E1 in my hadns, but Fuji offers really not that much in its cams and desired features for the money it asks. I use digital cam for paid work only and have taken many images with X-E1 and X-E2, I have not needed to make direct comparisons to see the differences in colours between these two cams that have different colour array filter…I am not the only one who noticed it. If you have X-100s find someone who own X-100 and shoot same scenes in different light, especially in mixed or artificial light, and you will note it. Look how many recommendations arised to shoot RAW only when X-E2/X-T1 were brought, while almost everybody have praised jpegs files rendered by X-Pro1/X-E1/X-100. For me they (X-trans1 &2) are not identical and not very close – that’s why I sold X-E2 and stayed with X-E1. I know at least 3 people who stayed with X100 and not moved to X-100s/X-100T because of X-Trans2 rendering.
Yeah, I know of those people too. But X100 is a different thing because that was a completely different sensor (less MP, Bayer CFA). So you or someone else should really provide a direct comparison between X-Trans1 and X-Trans2.
The one difference I have seen many write about is the aggressive JPEG noise reduction at high ISO and I’ve often complained about that myself. But at lower ISOs I haven’t seen any backed-up claims about differences. But considering you write about artificial lighting maybe you are in fact only talking about high ISO differences?
“yes I hate X-Trans2, but not only me, there are many Fuji users who claim the same.” Then why did you buy a FUJIFILM camera?
“because even with -2 jpgs files are washed out” I thought real photographers only did RAW, so why be obsessed about JPEG quality?
Buy a better flash then. My Sunpak Auto24, dated 1972’ish, works perfectly, plus the X-T1 even has the little plug for the wire.
Tether support for Mac, according to the Fuji folks this has been one of the most requested options, but we still don’t have a solution.
Tether support for Mac, according to the Fuji folks this has been one of the most requested options, but we still don’t have a solution. I shoot Tethered 90% of the time.
Yes please just add native tether support to CaptueOne. I shot tethered 100% of the time for work.
as a fashion editorial photographer. I found 1 error on my new fw 4.0. the camera cant control my subject to pose the way i want them to. jeezus! LMFAO. What pixie boy said. tether is a needed option, but app or software itself, please fix. nothing to do with the camera. just need to update there android apple app: things needed for the app.
1. select/un-select all images
2. no limitation downloading, 30 is there max.
3. auto upload to phone or computer via wi-fi or (bluetooth <- if possible).
4. hold – select amount of images to be upload OR downloaded.
5. make subject pretty. -JK
If you can’t take nice photos with a Fuji X-Series camera, the problem is likely you; and, thus, you should work on improving your skills. If you are still using Lightroom/ACR to convert your files, and continue to complain about the lack of detail, smearing, etc, you should start listing and change your workflow, as Lightroom/ACR will likely never be great at converting any files, especially unique ones like Fuji’s ~ ACR was terrible at converting my Canon files and is definitely not great with X-Trans files, so once I recognized that, I moved on. Try Capture One, for instance, as it is far better. Though, I prefer the in-camera converter with minor adjustments in Capture One/Photoshop.
I really like the face and eye detect in the AF.
X-T1 kit got a waf thumbs up from the get go because of the dreamy IQ.
Sorry to talk about photos gentlemen (any ladies here?), but I very much like the set in this post, especially the shell on the beach. Heck, I even like the cat! 😛
Yeah, there’s an elephant in the room ))
Had the same thought about the shell on the beach. A good example of how many would be wise to stop lusting after f/1 lenses and pay attention to the way colour can separate a subject and background.
I have to agree with him on flash. Others… I think he needs to play with his camera a bit more.
Stop with the spam already. The title is pure click bait. I opened the article and still don’t see these 5 things. Just a list of ranom links.
Yup.
Almost once a week I will post a “top of FXF threads” article. This year there will be about 30 of them (out of an
average of 700 articles a year). That’s 4% of the total articles
If you don’t like a list of links, then just skip this section (and also the miXed zone, which are again about 30 articles a year.)
Overall, putting together “top of the Forum” and “mixed zones”, we reach 8% out of a total of 700 articles.
This means you’ll see in 56 articles a list of links to Fuji related discussions/reviews/whatever, and in 644 you’ll get the usual full time non stop and free rumors/news/deals/reviews coverage.
You can skip mixed zones and top of FXF, or just don’t read FR anymore… it’s the beauty of freedom.
Fuji needs to really work on the mac tethering man…
Hei Patrick, VEEEEERY misleading title …. these are not things Fuji gets horriby wrong, these are just the rants of one single user, who actually does not seem to have used the camera long enough, and it may be very counter productive with Fuji if they started thinking we all agree with that …. I have been following you for a very long time, but if we start with these things then it makes it very difficult for me to keep following.
it was the title of the thread which opened a hot discussion at the forum.
It is amazing how many people prefer to focus on what they don’t like rather than what they like.
Are there things Fuji could improve? For sure: provide 1/8000ths of a second shutter speed; better flash; their own bare-bones raw converter or the ability to convert the raw files to 16-bit TIFF using the in-camera converter; faster AF; higher resolution and dynamic range, to name a few.
However, if you can’t get sharp well exposed photos with these cameras, you should look no further than yourself. I have been using the X-Pro 1 for the past few years, and I have no problems using it. While I would love to get an X-Pro 2 or X-T2 with better image quality and features, the X-Pro 1 still has great image quality and is a good camera.
Irrespective of the brand, it is highly likely that most of the people who are complaining and asking for greater resolution, features, etc still don’t get the most out of the cameras they have today; and, a new camera likely won’t make difference for them.
While many Sony fanboys are yelping about how the A7r ii is going to kill this and that, it will be interesting to see whether it will translate into greater images for most. It will likely be no different than today, where we can search through several images in the A7 Series groups on Flickr to find a few nice images that are hardly distinguishable from images taken with other cameras.
I use a X100T for some of my fotoworks and love it, I also can well immagine to buy a Pro2 if Fujifilm keeps the promise to work hard on there lenses to make them the best in the world (I prefer perfect glass and colors before pixels). Gear is investment in lenses, so I’m unlikly to change a brand so quick once you have what you need. How ever – bridgecameras or point and shoots such as the FZ1000 from panasonic, Sony RX100 IV or the new Sony RX10II get better and better – and are fun to use as well.
Is this the most – sorry – stupid title on FR so far? Sound like a line for one purpose mainly: generating as many clicks as possible…
Hm… well, I think if you write 700 articles a year, write thousands of emails and do all the work on FR on the top of a day job, it can happen that I write one title that is not pleasing anyone.
I think that if you find that Fuji gets things “horribly wrong” you should go and buy another camera, there is plenty of choice. If you like Sony / Oly / Canon / Nikon (insert name) more why don’t you buy that? It seems logical to me. I tried Sony, hated it, tried Oly, hated it, tried Fuji, loved it, bought it. Seems quite a straightforward process to me ….
XTrans: Am I the only one not having the problem of XTrans2 colours being washed out?
I shoot RAW and JPEG Fine in Classic Chrome. I think one of
the best things about Fuji is the XTrans: for me colour rendition is
close to perfect, and I have compared with other cameras and still
prefer Fuji colours by a mile. In the recent polls on all website the
great majority of Fuji owners and users expressed clear preference for
maintaining the XTrans design, and I certainly voted for that.
I normally use the JPEG SOC to decide cropping (faster to load) but then
work on the RAW for final product. There is hardly any difference
really, but the workflow gives you some more control. I do not have big
problems up to 6400. Some time the washing out of details can be from
micro – movement, which are more frequent of course if you shoot in low
lighting, but that happens with any camera.
Concerning other issues, I think the current lens lineup is certainly the best out there for this type of camera.
The XT1 it
has practically perfect ergonomics, and the same can be said for the
lenses. For example, I can easily use it without looking at it using the
dials, at times with one hand alone, change the most important settings,
and shoot. Never been able to do that with other digital cameras. Of course, to get to know
your camera well you need to shoot several 10,000s pictures.
I do also a lot of macro for botanical purposes, and I am now only using
Fuji with the 60/2.4 (yes, the one everybody hates!) and the MCEX16 and I
got some very good pictures (as in contest level).
If I had to improve something, I would like a slightly faster autofocus, larger
buffer (possibly in the order of 30+), some improvement to very high ISO
(>12,800 ) and possibly slightly higher pixel count? I would also
like Fuji to keep the body as it is, with maybe some improvement to the
selection pad, but no major changes. But these are only minor issues, not make or break for me, and certainly not “horribly wrong” (what a really misleading title).
In the lens line up, the only lens I miss is a long lens, like a 400, or in alternative a long zoom like a 200 – 400.
Yeah if someone is getting washed out colors the setting’s isn’t right. In raw they can be washed out? in the thumbnails depending on film sim settings.
Is this problem the same with XT10? They basically have the same firmware now right?
Why isn’t there any tethered capabilities x cameras? I hear that fuji listens to their customers, so where do I make my requests, 🙂
