Steve: “I wanted to share this short film shot mostly with my Sony Nex7, Canon FD glass and a Novaflex adapter. A few scenes (the low-angle footsteps & inside the church) were shot on my iPhone 5s. Enjoy. https://vimeo.com/112755882”
Maico: “I spent the last weeks reverse engineering the Sony PlayMemories Camera appstore and found out how to install custom apps on Sony NEX / Alpha cameras. I wanted to post my findings on http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/12756/sony-alpha-hacks-talk/p1, but the site seems nearly dead and invitation-only. That’s why I send the link to you:
https://sony-pmca.appspot.com/
Give it a try if you want to. I hope it works.
The source is available here:
https://github.com/ma1co/Sony-PMCA-RE
There is still a lot of work to do, but it is a proof of concept which should allow us to start understanding PMCA apps and begin to develop our own.Feel free to ask me any questions.
Thanks!
Kind regards

This is a MUST HAVE for any street photographer!
The link to vimeo for the Nex-7 shot video is dead. Any update?
It’s going to be more compact for E-Mount and f/32
It’s a shame that the sony-hacks didnt get anywhere. I was waiting for a NEX 7 or 5n hack at the time for video, just as it happened to the GH1/GH2.
I wonder if any of the playmemory apps could take control over video compression…
Things such as quality levels etc are often hard coded. With the apps one usually can just automate things that already exist within the camera. But what do i know.. if there actually exist functions that for some reason are hidden one could probably activate those.
The reverse engineering really opens up possibilities, I mean it’s an android subsystem! As an Informatics student with an Alpha 6000: I’m looking into it. Any wishes? 🙂
Custom apps for the cameras, very nice.
Here’s the discounted version:

Custom in-camera apps?(!)
I wonder if this mean that one could program a macro app for the Sony cameras. By macro i don’t mean “close focusing” but rather a set of simple text files for doing A, B and then C. This would be extremely useful for things such as bracketing and timelapses.
With macros one could pretty much program ones camera to do whatever one would want and don’t be limited to what Sony decides with their modes. Seeing that Sony takes forever to update their firmware this is quite welcomed.
That’s great news about the aps-c lenses. Pretty good selection already but more is better.
Custom apps would be awesome…
I downloaded and install the DEMO APP (https://github.com/ma1co/PMCADemo/releases) and indeed it works fine.
I wish I have more java/android developing skills to to extend the demo app further.
Also hope some IT developers with sony cameras can work some projects for sony cameras just like MagicLantern does for other camera brand…
