Ricoh launched a nice camera with the new GR! It’s the most compact and cheap APS-C cameras. And you can already preorder it at Bhphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here). But the most important question is….how good is the image quality?
Click ont he images posted here to see a larger sized version. On top of this post you can find a comaprison against the Fuj X PRO 1, Sony RX100, Canon G1x and the Canon G15. And below a comparison against the Nikon Coolpix A. More Ricoh GR full size samples can be found at http://www.pentax.jp/english/products/gr/ex/index.html.
Let me know if you are impressed by those images! Keep in mind that the Ricoh costs a lot less than the Nikon Coolpix A ($1,100 here at Amazon) while the Ricoh GR is priced at $799 at Bhphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).

¡GREAT! Images posted by Pentax-Ricoh and comparisons made by Pentax-Ricoh. This is sad and lacks any credibility.
Who says they were made by Ricoh? These comparisons were made by dpreview!
I seriously doubt that.
My bad. The above ones were indeed provided by Ricoh. On the other hand DPR did some image comparison with Coolpix A, as well.

All I can say is that the results are pretty much the same as Ricoh’s own comparison.
Have you tried with better lens like Contax G 28mm on X-pro1?
Well, the XF18mm on the XP1 is not the best lens in its lineup. Probably its worst.
Agree with @Mike, the XF 18mm isn’t the best lens in the Fuji lineup. My 18-55 is sharper and would have produced better results. Fail.
Some very disappointing news: The GR is 12 bit only 🙁
like 95% of cameras on the market.
I don’t know where you get these numbers and if you are counting older camera’s, but newer sensors have 14 bit. And since even the old Pentax k5, let alone the k5II has 14 bit, this seems like a missed opportunity in completely making Nikon’s Coolpix A obsolete. (The A HAS 14 bit)
Waaaa waaaa the Fuji 18 is their worst lens, so it’s not fair! Huh? 18mm prime vs 18mm prime. If I want something at least to pocketable, how would the 18-55 be a contender. So it works out in their favor, but they did compare apples to apples as much as they could. Would third party be more trustworthy? Probably, but we don’t yet have that yet from a just announced camera.
The X-pro image appears motion blurred.
in good condition even G15 is enough good…
Ridiculous test shots and ditto test methodology!
The results are good enough i might be interested, but the comparison is ridiculous. Its all edge-of-frame, i normally dont stare at the far edges of the image. Lets see how the center looks, lets see some color, lets look for chromatic A.
Cant really make the determination it is better than anything else, other than it may hold a slight edge at the edge of frame vs some cameras with certain lenses.
An articulated screen would have been a really welcome addition. Reduce sun glare on the screen, and the ability to easily compose interesting angles.
The “test shots” didn’t get any better since they were postet at photorumors.
DP1 Merrill is the best APS-C compact camera.
“APS-C + zoom lens” – lol, they got to be kidding me. First of all: Which zoom lens? Kit? Is it a joke? Secondly: Why the heck do you compare compact with prime lens to DSLR with zoom lens? What kind of comparison is that? Trying to prove your point which doesn’t hold a candle?
The Canon G1X lens looks good in this comparison The only thing preventing me from buying that camera is that it’s insanely slow!
