6000 bucks for a few years old body.. no thank you Leica.
1200 buck we might be talking.
still ridiculously overpriced, only idiot brand name lovers buy this crap.
Tell me, if I’m in the market for a full frame digital rangefinder, which competing product should I buy so I can avoid being an “idiot brand name lover”?
Might as well get a nex vg900 at $3300, it does stills, can adapt to any mount, and has cutting edge technology. I’m certain it’s better overall and you could sell it and buy a nex FF camera down the road.
Pretty sure a VG900 is not a rangefinder.
Of course not, it’s an E-mount camcorder with 24×36 sensor and autofocus.
How on earth could you compare a rangefinder to a video camera? Have you ever seen these cameras or just read the specs sheets?

Clearly the OP lives in a dimension far superior to ours where FF rangefinders can be had for 1k
You can’t. You could shoot film, or pay dearly to shoot digital. What I don’t understand is, why bother with the digital. It’s not because rangefinder shooters want the latest and greatest. Leica has never had that.
If you want a rangefinder for a good price, shoot film.
If you want to use leica glass, any other mirrorless will do that, and all you lose is full frame, which given the state of technology today, basically means bokeh (over simplification, I know, but the differences seem so trivial to me now).
If you want a tool that feels like it was made by magical gnomes, and you want that special feeling that comes with paying magical gnome prices, buy a M9/M10
I’m sorry, but you come across as an ignorant idiot. I don’t have any leica stuff, but your comment is just so ignorant.
Wow.. now it’s really cheap!!
A used M9 goes for about $5000 now. I think it’s holding its value pretty well.
The DMR still goes for $3-4000 as well.
Most everyone can afford one of these. All you have to do is die and then auction off your harvestable body parts to the highest bidder. Simple.
A lot of people buy often one lens after spending Leica M9 cash…a 35mm. I remember reading either a DPReview thread or a Photo.net thread where a shop mentioned that people that bought an M body at that time (before m8 or m9, so cheaper even) often only bought one lens and that lens was a 35mm summicron or summarit for being the most middle ground (both in focal length and in price).
So, unless you are a user of other focal lengths, the new FF choice can be the Sony RX1. It will do video, liveview and for the price of an M9 alone, you can get all of the accessories you want for it.
It also goes beyond ISO 2500.
Winter is coming.
Overpriced .. yes.. Am I an idiot for owing one?
It’s the smallest and lightest FF camera. The RX will be soon but fixed lenses and no rangefinder. I think people who make all of these “jealousy ” type comments have probably never even used a rangefinder.
Make no mistake.. it is a luxury item and too much money but it is an item I have afforded and find it to be a real pleasure unlike any other camera I’ve used. It’s a niche tool that can not do everything like a DSLR. But for the intended purpose it has no equal and most importantly I almost NEVER miss focus.
