The first Sony Full Frame E-mount camera just got a $1,000 price drop! VG900 for $2,298.

VG900

The very first Full Frame E-mount camera wasn’t the A7/r. It was the VG900 camcorder. And that cam just got a $1,000 rebate today at Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto and SonyStore. I would not be surprised to see a successor coming in late March-early April right before the NAB show starts.

Super A7r and A7s deals, US boxed (no grey import) and full warranty:
A7s for $1,995 on [shoplink 32771 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]
A7r for $1,795 on[shoplink 32836 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

  1. What is the advantage of the VG900 over the A7S?

please give me a good reason why should I get this camera instead of the A7S! thank you!

    1. It’s a cool camera, suffers picture artifacts though. If this were updated with the A7S guts & unlimited record time I’d get in in a heartbeat. As-is though, no, I’ll stick with the A7S for the better HD picture.

    2. A7S can only record 29 minute clips- and that’s repeatable in separate clips till the sensor overheats and shuts down the camera for a set amount of time for the sensor to cool down.
The VG series are designed to record indefinitely. Your only limits are power/battery and memory.

    1. Hoping for the same thing: a7S 4K internals version with proper sound and a decent oled EVF I would love to buy one IF they give us the option of high bitrates and 422 600mbps for 4K and 150mbps for HD with a 300mbps for the 100FPS. So wisiwyg IMGO ASAP xavc s-log xlr sdxc BOSS…. Make it a FS3 !

      1. I wish, but the most they will do is put XAVC-S in the camera. And, in my opinion, that’s enough to justify the purchase.

  2. And it was also HOLD DOWN FROM SONY NOT TO MATCH THE FS-100…and yes
if this would have the specs of 2015 ( look at JVC 4k s35…) it would be a nice fine
fullsensor 4k camcorder, small in it, but nothing for the ilikefaltcamerasinmy2qm2bathroomminifilmstudio… have the A7s and the F-7, the the A7s
has found its new fan ( the camera is a marketinghipster and is now the new vg900…you
will always found the new idiots…) 🙂

      1. Lets see; run on incoherent sentences (check), haphazard use of punctuation (check), numerous misspellings (check), overuse ad nauseum of emoticons (check). SharpShooter is back.

  3. This camera totally sucked in every way. A pointless potential-full piece of unrealized technology. Underspec’ed, under-performing and totally unfinished 1/2 ass product that is overpriced no matter how many discounts and price drops it gets. Hope Sony makes a proper upgrade model, or better yet, discontinues it before they go bankrupt making too many products of too many things. First was their laptop line, next will be their cell phone line, and before we know it, will be their TVs that are no match anymore for the Korean and some made-in-China garbage, and the same for their cameras.. their endless sin is making too many models and products, most not good enough and not lived long enough to make any sense, have any market share or be profitable for them. Sony is going down faster than the Titanic.. NO WAIT! Their new $1000+ Walkman will save them!!! I REALLY would live to know who are the decision makers at Sony Corp. these days.. they are all senile or on acid..

  4. I love the formfactor. I’ve been wanting a successor for a long time now. Wonderful camera but with serious image-issues…

  5. I have a similar camera but with aps sensor, Nex VG20, and i can say that it is a very good camera for interviews. It can go for hours with one large batt without overheating.

  6. same piece of hardware, Canon can slash $4000 and Sony slash $1000 and sold to consumer. sold 1 of these unit profits 10x of its cost. The most insane still a market there lol…

  7. I wouldn’t get the new version without A7s sensor and 5 axis because it seem pretty likely that A7sII will have that and maybe but unlikely 4K internal. I don’t really see Sony packing the goods into this camera. Think about, 10 bit 422, 5 axis, A7s sensor, internal 4k, 120fps, why would you spend $10,000 on a FS7. The F7s would still have a couple of advantages but not $6000 worth. We all know Sony doesn’t shoot themselves in the foot like that. But maybe they are changing? We can hope!

    1. $ 6000 for better ergonomics and 600mbps codec, 180-fps, dual card slot XQD, great viewfinder, proper controls, audio where you want it? Off course I would spend that money! But yes a small EX1 / handycam type version with something with the latitude & as sensitive as the a7s sensor would be fantastic.
