(SR4) Mark this: Sony Online Store Europe will close at midnight (and A6xxx hint)

Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-14 um 20.11.20

This comes via a highly trusted source: Sony Online Store Europe will close tonight. The website will remain online as it is but they will not directly take orders anymore.

One more thing: And if what the source is right on this…well than you should know this too: He also told me Sony plans to release the A6xxx as next E-mount camera within 1 month. So if he is right on the store closure there is a fair chance he is right on the camera too…

Link to EU Sony stores: Sony DE, UK, FR, IT, ES, NL, BE, CH, AT, SE, FI, NO, PT.

  1. Well that would be great because Sony stores are overpriced anyway !

Why great ? Because Sony will supply items like the A7R II to other shops, for example in France it’s impossible to find it anywhere !

      1. Well reviewers get cameras directly from Sony, they don’t buy it.

I really don’t know where to get one, it’s not even possible from Sony France.

  2. No big deal. I bought the A7 R II via sony-onlinestore and it should have arived at 28th july (paid with paypal). They didn’t even inform me, that they were not able to deliver it. I canceled my order mid-august. They never wanted to know why…
    No big deal!

    1. Maybe the A6xxx will be the perfect Chupacabra-camera: fast continous AF even in low light, and great high ISO performance to catch that quick little goat sucker xD

    1. Same here. An hour ago I still could’ve placed an order, but now the “buy now”-button just redirects to the main page.

  3. I do npt understand Sony stratagy.
They seem to want to challenge the market leader..Canon…
Who offers better support, better service , better system.
Yet they are closing stores and offering even less market presence.
They can build a really good sensor, but it takes more than that to be a really good camera company.

    1. yeah they’re closing retail stores and won’t sell directly but are ramping up support in third party retailers. I know Best Buy has gained dedicated Sony camera booths that carry the latest cameras. I sure hope sony contacts local and large electronics stores, as well as Costco/Sam’s club.

  4. A silver lining of the cloud is that, if we were taken by surprise by the announcement of the A7SII, maybe the total absence of IBIS-rumors for the A6100/A7000 might likewise take us by surprise by having IBIS in the new APS-C camera.

Sony, if you’re listening, there are quite a nice range of APS-C lenses, but I will not even consider any of them because of lack of OSS in them. But once IBIS comes to the APS-C model, then those lenses become my targets for purchase. And, Sony, I do not want FF because of the massive weight of the FE zoom lenses. I want APS-C for lightweight travel and daily use. So don’t ignore APS-C.

    1. Exactly. Might even get M43 users to join in that way.

I hope they’re taking their time to come up with two cameras, a stills centric one and a video centric (maybe at a premium up) APS-C mirrorless camera. Right now, I’m using the GH4 and BMPCC for video and an Olympus OM-D E-M1 for stills. If they could offer a great hybrid experience with awesome stills and video that would be the best thing ever. ‘Cause admittedly the lowlight performance of the M43 format leaves room wishing for more. I’d love to just dial in ISO3200/ISO6400 without thinking twice.

They’ve proven they can be forward thinking and implementing… the recent RX100M4, RX10M2, A7RII and A7SII are nothing short of exciting. But there’s also people that don’t want the fixed setup solutions or dealing with full frame cameras and lenses. ‘The A7 cameras aren’t that big… you can use small APS-C covering E-mount lenses’… well, yeah, but then why pay to have that full frame sensor in there in the first place?

Give me… an APS-C mirrorless camera, with audio interface (mic in/monitoring port), vari-angle touchscreen (come on, Sony, wake up!), great EVF, nice button layout (and placing, come on, that REC button!), great battery life, no overheating issues (hey, you can make it as big as the A7-series if it allows for better cooling… might as well then include in-body image stabilization? Pretty please?), dual SD slot (on the side, not co-located at the battery compartment)… then feature 4K recording (multi-aspect, anamorphic mode with in-camera de-sqeeze?), XAVCS, some form of S-LOG, high bitrate, high framerate and an interface with of course peaking, focus assist magnification, zebras, histogram, level gauge, and so on.

APS-C mirrorless I think is the best mix of compactness meets performance. Just, Canon and Nikon don’t seem too interested to make their move and Samsung’s NX1 is a real breakthrough, but the mount and native selection doesn’t make it as attractive as an E-mount APS-C camera would be.

If people have a couple of thousand bucks to spend, they’ll still get the full frame cameras, if you’re scared it’s gonna hurt the full frame sales. But yeah, maybe a few % would actually rather pick something like I’m suggesting here. But for each of those 10 others from other systems will jump on the Sony bandwagon, just consider that for a moment! You can get people to get into the Sony world…

  5. I don’t trust Sony anymore and I don’t beleave in this Japanese attitude BS.

Wenn they price tag things they think global, their business mindset is global.
Gridy making money out of it.

Selling plastic mount prototyps to replace it after short.

Lanching a fake pro service for checking all the canikons request boxes to hook them.

After A mount its apsc and after that it’s photography. They will end with the sentence ” We see our customer are more interested in 4k videos rather then stills, we meet their need with our new compact camcorder line the A7 series!”

    1. When you go to buy the product you are now directed to a 3rd party store website. You cannot buy directly from Sony
