Magnum Photographer Hiroji Kubota posted some images shot with the new and yet unreleased X-PRO2 to do so. You can see the images here: Image One and Image Two. As you can see from the EXIF data the first three pictures are all shot with the yet non announced Fuji camera.
Personal note: I will take the chance to report my deepest condolences to all people who lived that terrible situation. We have to work hard to build a world of peace under the sole rule: Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

Is this really the only way to tell that a Fuji x-Pro2 is being used? Naming the tragedy of Paris? That’s really sad and of bad taste in my opinion.
I’m French, a lot of my family lives in Paris but I don’t see any problem in this. A magnum photographer tries a new camera. He’s in Paris and uses it. What should the admins of rumors website do? “Forget” about this little Fuji news? They have the right to report this. It may be a futile news regarding what happens here in France but it’s “mirrorlessrumors.com”, not “whatreallymatters.com”
That you are French does not invalidate my opinion. What I ask is: is he the only one using/testing that camera? And is it a coincidence that we have this “rumor”? Or is it just a sad click bait? Maybe it doesn’t matter to you, because different people see the world in different ways and are entitled to have different opinions. This is mine.
This is a social medium, expect people to have and express their opinions and points of view as in real life.
I agree with Ayoul. Admin is not taking advantage of the tragedy by putting this up. It happened, the exif is out there (Magnum’s fault if this was to be kept secret) and someone spotted it. This does not detract, reduce or should be found offensive in relationship to the horror witnessed in Paris. Unrelated. I bet if this was a Tsumani in Thailand or a some bomb in the middle east, no one would think of it being offensive…”just a pro working”
I replied the same way (and other people did) a year ago, when admin of 43rumors posted the “news” of a photojournalist using his Em1 while visiting the site of an airplane crash. I still think the gear used is of no relevance (perhaps it interests some indifferent gearhead), and the breacking news title is just used to make the post slightly more visible (and receive some more clicks).
Most of photojournalists use whatever gear they have at the moment, even smartphones.
I haven’t seen any video or photo naming the smartphone used.
I bet that most of them used their old and trusty dslrs, but I havn’t seen a post on canonrumors or nikonrumors about the gear used in Paris.
Pros working don’t need a shout out about their cameras.
Nobody said that Hiroji Kubota is shouting about this gear. The exif was outed when the photo was published on Magnum’s site and someone noticed it. Done. No flamboyant scenario here.
He is a pro, he didn’t shout. Some rumors site shouted.
Oh. So this was your point? We are on a rumor website about Fuji. The first shots with some exifs relative to a new Fuji camera are released. Of course he will say it. It would be of absolutely no importance on a newspaper website. But this is a rumor website about Fuji cameras, so yes, It does matter. In fact, the first pictures with new cameras are always noticed by rumor websites… And yes, as usual, the context is indicated in the title if it’s a part of real story and not flower or cat pic…
what else would you use for reportage? besides, the tragedy is that the us and eu have been bombing and instigating total chaos in the middle east for past 20 years. now the SHTF! so, personally i dont even care, i dont even watch tv anymore since 2011 attacks on sovereing lybia.. so go figure how i am interested in another arbitrary attack in france.. je suis charlie? non.
Reportage? It can be done even with a disposable film camera. The fact here is that a camera not yet available was spotted during this tragedy. Not a problem. To ME, the “problem” is how this news was posted, linking it directly to the attacks of Paris (and thus the suspects of a click bait).
What would I had done if it was me to post the xpro2 leak:
Goodmorning people! Here are the specs of the new xpro2 camera! Got them thanks to a leak, and these are 100% sure!
Done.
Not that difficult.
And people would have argued over the base 200 iso in peace, without looking as heartless people who don’t even care about what happened in Paris in any way.
No need to reply, you said more than enough. (And this has nothing to do with “reportage”)
My reply to Ayoul is still waiting for moderation. Since I replied politely as I always do, I’d like to know if at least I hit a raw nerve.
Is the problem the use of “Paris terror attack” in the title?
The fact that you can’t understand is embarassing. I’m sorry.
You had an opinion, you made it, now let it go.I am another that doesn’t agree with you !
All right. I was just trying to let you know that even if your first comment was deleted (or still awaited moderation like you said) I was ready to hear your point again. But this kind of condescending statement make me think that it wasn’t probably so interesting after all. Done for me.
My heart is with all Parisiens, Freedom will prevail.
First of all nice catch oin the Fuji.
Well…about your condolences. I live in the West and wonder: where were those condolences you and others expres when IS attacked civilians in Beirut…Well: no one cared.
When Israel killed 1500 civilians in Gaza among which 550 kids. Downed 19.000 buildings and 200 Mosques. Threw 20000 tons of explosives on a densly populated strip of 9 * 30 km…I saw zero condoleances. This was in august 2014. Nothing. Life went on as always.
The second example is simply incomparable to what happened in Paris. What happens in Gaza, for many years now but most of all since the Palestinians dared to democratically elect the wrong people, are crimes against huminty and crimes of war. Also this is state terrorism.
Let alone the 66.000 civilians that died as a consequence of our actions between 2004 and 2009 (thx to wikileaks), that are 33 civilians each day in Iraq.
But no one cares. No one says “Je suis Achmed” or “Je suis Palestinian”. No. Nothing. Only when we are the victim of terrorists and it comes close to home, we are sad. When others are the victims we are indifferent and when we are the cause.. we did it for a good reason.
Any terrorist act, either by other civilians, states, foreigners or our own military should be treated equally. I am feeling sick actually by these double standards virtually ALL of us seem to think is just fine.
Very well said. The hypocrisy of the standard western folk is just disgusting beyond measure. Though I think for a large part it is ignorance and unknowing.
It is unknowing. Now on the |Dutch tele everyoneis agreeing with how bad it is for France and no one I have seen is looking beyond things. What the hell happened in Palestine, in Iraw, In Saudi Arabia all tolerated or directly done by us. No one. No one seems to get further than “these bad guys, these extremists” and how their sick ideology (agreed btw) is the cause of all this (do not agree, there was no IS prior to 2010 or so).
First of all, I am very curious about Fuji coming generation as I am not fully satisfied by the quality of the pictures (video are great) out of my Panasonic M43 (GH4) and I cannot adjust myself to the menu of the Olympus (EM-1) and its short battery life.
Out of this, I am French, I was a photojournalist for 15 years and I agree 100 % on all your points.
After Paris Attack, I couldn’t stand to listen to those crappy politician manipulating public emotion (AGAIN!), after such a bloodbath, to cover their blatant cynicism and stupid political stance in both national and international field. .
Since 10 years, France is no more a sovereign country, blindly serving foreign financial and neocolonialism interest, playing identical bloody dirty tricks in Middle East.
Joining NATO, bombing Libya, helping terrorists group against Syria and accepting wave of migrant as “refugees” are part of this politician mob huge recent mistakes…
If people were thinking as much as they are feeling, all of those politician should be dismissed by the population: Hollande.Valls Cazeneuve, Fabius DEMISSION!
And my condolences are going to all terrorist victims, wherever they are from…
