Any?
Yes, any. There’s a local camera shop in Southern California that will even sell you a $10 camera that you can turn around for the $300 credit.
Or literally any instant film or disposable film camera.
I have a broken a100 laying around. Time to go dust off the ol’ DSLR.
Sony Germany – please copy this idea 😉
What’s the catch!?
I did this and it was awesome! I thought there must be a catch, but I got my new A7 pretty quickly and I’m living it!
Go to Goodwill or Saver and get any camera for under $5
That’s really awesome! I wish I could do it with my battered NEX3.
BTW, congrats on the new Disqus, it’s the best comment system ever 😀
Looks shiny and loads way slower than the old one. Why is that worth something?
Because once you register, you have all your discussions on the dashboard, you never miss a reply, no matter which site or how old the comment is. And since it’s been used more and more often in all sites, you don’t have to remember a lot of usernames and passwords. It’s worth the 1 sec wait.
So the Sony A7 will be 1399$ and the Fuji XT1 are 1299$…Which one should i go for?.Any suggest???Thank!
Same boat. No prior lens addictions. We might not get unbiased advice on a Sony page, though.
You won’t get unbiased advice anywhere. These strike me as two rather different cameras and you both haven’t specified any needs.
I guess I’m looking at it as more of an ecosystem (lenses, firmware updates, etc.) decision rather than the sensor as the results are both very impressive. Maybe I’m going about it the wrong way. I won’t muddy this thread anymore. Thanks.
Well, as an ecosystem, currently the Fuji makes more sense, imho. I’d suggest two things to not forget. One, interface and grip, i.e. how it feels in your hand. Two, features that quite probably will stay the same over time (for example, I don’t think the Fuji will ever become a good solution for video or that Sony will ever have a labelled shutter dial).
Btw, why do you say “muddy the thread”? If my previouscomment came out as harsh, I simply meant that the more you tell us about your needs, the better advice you’ll get. 🙂
Those are two completely different cameras – APS-C vs. Full-Frame. No base for comparison. Make your choice depending on what sensor you want.
Well Fuji got the lens and Sony got the full frame.
if your not into manual focus lenses I would go with the fuji. If you can afford and only need the 35mm and 55mm then I say go for the sony. I have the A7 and just got the 35mm 2.8 but I dont find it much better than my canon fd 35mm f2 but the canon is old and is only Manual focus.
Finally, maybe this Canon AE1 will come in handy.
Once again……..Only in the USA !!! There are other countries in the world…Aren’t there???
I’m guessing the shipping would be too complicated if they did that. As they only included the 48 states it seems.
Actually it is not any camera. I tried to do this with a working Canon Powershot and they offered me $0 for my trade.
I just asked about trading in a 14 year old Canon powershot that’s beat up but used, and the customer rep told me I could still get $300 IF I buy a Sony A7 or A7R.
And so begin the price wars.
As the manufacturers, gobsmacked by reality, begin to drop their prices to meet the market in an attempt to stimulate sales volume, it will, perhaps very soon, become harder and harder for the XT1 and the EM1 and such to maintain their wish prices.
Who will be the last marque standing? Who has the deep pockets to survive such a price war?
as a Fuji x100s owner i will say this is a good price to get A7 to compliment the x100s. definitely tempting!
Think they will take the old 4X5?
So I can trade in my old canon powershot sd10?
Yes. In fact, you can even buy a used camera for a couple dollars directly from focus camera and trade it in for $300 without them even having to ship the old camera to you. According to the customer rep, the whole point of this is because Sony is not allowing a discount on MSRP yet. The way to get around it is to have extreme trade in credits.
I just tried it and they just sent me an email that offered me $0 for it so I don’t think it’s any camera like they said. This was the B&H one.
Oh sorry. I was talking about focus camera. I didn’t try B&H yet. Try Focus camera. You don’t even have to put in the camera model.
i just traded my Polaroid 600 ( $1 – thrift shop ) from Focus camera and got lot’s of free stuff worth $100+ also
So anyone who paid full price for an A7 when it was launched a couple months ago just saw the remaining value of their axe ratchet down.
The ridiculous manufacturer pricing models are not sustainable. They deliberately overprice at intro, then have planned tiers of downward skimming over the following months, capped by a replacement value 12 months later dropping the bottom out of your proud acquisition. They’ve convinced us that this is some law of the universe, that this is ‘just the way things are in high tech,’ rather than a calculated, deliberate effort to continually sell yet another version of the same product with trivial feature enhancements. Rinse and repeat the cycle.
This marketing lifecycle pricing strategy is self-defeating. They are already seeing the effects. People are tired of continually buying yet another latest camera claiming ‘the fastest autofocus ever.’ When their family tells them the pictures look the same as from their last camera, we go through convolutions trying to convince them (ourselves?) that the ‘investment’ was worth it, because even though you can’t see it in the pictures, we are more ergonomically correct and besides all those anonymous strangers on the internet said it was cool.
I had bhphoto give me a price for the trade in, it was just $10. Focus gave me $300.
