New Hasselblad Lunar titanium version!

Hasselblad launched a new Hasselblad Lunar variation made of titanium and red leather. They will make a limited edition of 200 pieces and each will cost 7200 Euro without taxes. Why the red and yellow colors? Because they represent the chinese colors for fortune. I guess Hasselblad needs exactly “fortune” to sell all 200 of them 😉

Official Full Pree Release:

Hasselblad has announced the launch of a brand new camera – but only 200 people in the world will ever get to own one.

The Hasselblad Lunar Limited Edition, bristling with latest capture technology and crafted in lightweight titanium, boasts a sumptuous, unique red Tuscan leather grip; a black leather shoulder strap accented with red stitching and an exclusive PVD matte gold-treated top plate – and comes with a  ‘before tax’ price tag of €7,200.

Hasselblad has timed the launch of the latest edition in its highly popular Lunar range to coincide with Chinese New Year (Jan 31st).

Said Hasselblad CEO Ian Rawcliffe: “We wanted to celebrate what, coincidentally, is also known as The Lunar New Year, with a unique and iconic limited edition camera which we believe will be revered as a true example of camera art by photo-connoisseurs and collectors across the world. Only two hundred have been developed in our Italy-based design centre and the exclusive red and gold colours on the grip and body underpin the traditional Chinese belief that these shades represent good fortune and joy.

“Our Lunar mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera range embraces all the advanced technology found in top DSLR models and each unit in this latest Limited Edition version is offered sequentially numbered.”

He added: “This is a unique opportunity for a very small number of discerning photographers who want high-spec shooting capability linked with matchless Italian craftsmanship in a point and shoot camera, to invest in a photo-capture icon.”

The feature-rich 24 megapixel Hasselblad Lunar Limited Edition camera incorporates Full HD Video capability and bundles with a black E-mount 18-55mm lens. The camera’s wide range ISO sensitivity allows the user to shoot in almost any light. The unit’s special PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) finish provides hardness that is second only to diamond.

Hasselblad’s Lunar range, first launched last year, was inspired by the company’s first camera in space – the now legendary Hasselblad 500C.

  1. They need 200 rich & superstitious Chinese customers… Given the number of Chinese population, I think chances are on their side. 🙂

    1. Not just superstitious, but with a distinctly bad taste of aesthetics…given how many rich Chinese are actually conservative in that matter, I don’t know…

  2. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…

  3. Who in h*** would pay €7000+ Euro for this when you can buy a
    Sony A7R for €2100 Euro?
Has this world lost all common sense?

It’s like, if you got so much money that you don’t look at price you
    also drop all common sense.

    1. who will buy a car for 200k euro?

someone like David Beckham? if i have more money i’ll buy a7 to play with, and if i don’t like it i can always put it in the drawer. well.. i don’t. so I’m waiting for the next NEX 7 🙂

    2. Well this is not a camera it is some juwelery. There are people paying over $10.000 for a watch or a ring. So why not $8000 for a camera that shows that you are extreemly rich?

    1. Not to disagree completely, but there are plenty of cameras out there that are worse than Sony in video, the only cameras shooting RAW video are some hacked Canons, IBIS is missing on only two out of five FE lenses and the GH4 has been barely revealed.

      1. Yes, of course, you can buy much worse Video than you’re getting out of Sony α cameras, but E-Mount has got so much more only firmware limited video potential when you compare it to actual Panasonic or Blackmagic cameras or even hacked ones from Canon.

        1. Well, Sony could do better, that’s for sure. I am currently thinking about a Blackmagic, but some features are severely lacking.

          1. I’m into FullFrame and Super35/APS-C Lenses, so having E-Mount buying µ4/3 lenses shouldn’t be necessary to consider at all.

  4. In opinion the Hasselblad camera are for men what diamond ring are for women :p…. Very brilliant at first point of view but totally useless on long terms 😀

  5. I bet they will sell all these with ease…and it must be almost all margin. That is what a luxury brand will get you.

  6. If they meant to sell them to the Chinese they’d better paint a dragon as well!

Seriously, I thought this kind of stuff would’ve been better off catering to the taste of some oil-rich Middle-easterners.

    Apologies if I sounded racist…

  7. So, what’s the deal here? They send out a chain letter to well-heeled Chinese photographers warning them that if they do not purchase a Lunar titanium camera and send the message to 8 of their friends, some awful tragedy will befall them?

  8. Kudos to the public relations department for writing this press release. I wonder how drunk they had to get to write this work of art.

  9. This camera looks more like something you’d find at an amusement park! This is embarrassing for a company that had a history of such amazing well-built cameras. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  10. We’re two weeks in the new year and 2-3 weeks from the announcement of the APS-C mirrorless flagship camera and we’re getting hasselbad news?

  11. I tried the Lunar with wooden grip at a Danish photo exhibition. I actually liked the way the camera felt in my hand. But the build was a bit rough and looked somewhat unfinished. But I actually understand the price since so few are being manufactured.

    Greetings
    David

  12. Its kind of facinating.. with all that expensive materials and stuff.. where is the taste level. It’s looks very much like a toy camera.

  13. 200 pieces for 7,2k each makes just around 1,5 mio – there is no place for really big revenue. For Hassy obviosly it is more important that only VIPs will be able to shine with their new products. Probably this is the point why last Hassys are such ugly – they must be remarkable from the only first look… just like “Hey, what is that ugly-strange thing in hands of oil sheik Ali ibn Hassan al Darrakh? Isn’t that new Hasselblad?! Wow!”

For German speakers name Hasselblad can get new sence – Hassy could stay for short form of “haesslich”, that means just “ugly”

  14. For that price you’d think they’d license IRONMAN to advertise it. Just color the lens too and finish it off.
