Actually it’s been at this “discount” (and the A7 at $1698) since Amazon first listed them.
It’s hard to imagine the sort of high school dropout hayseed who wouldn’t have bought the A7r at full price but will because Amazon offered a 0.000865% discount, but – horrifying thought – they must exist or Amazon wouldn’t do it.

Not sure what your deciding factors are, but you can just take them both and then return the one that you don’t want. Of course, check your store’s return policy. I’m sure you would be able to decide within a week.

What does after the 22nd mean for the 55? Is it shipping on the 22nd and I’ll receive it later, or is it delayed and shipping at some unknown date?
It’s an estimation of when stock will arrive at the US retailers. presumably the earliest expected ship date. However, last year when Amazon gave a late December date for the RX1, they actually ended up shipping 3 weeks earlier or more for some people.
So basically it doesn’t mean much at all.
I assume this is only for those who pre-ordered early? I’m guessing if you order now then you’ll probably take delivery in 2014?
The margins are high on this one my young padawan, capitalism 8-ball says: “they will be on shelves before the end of the year”.
Well that’s not really answering my question. I get capitalism and all but there are production lead times and this is a hot item, that why I asked if anyone had any idea whether the original stock (the large shipment that is being talked about in this post) is already completely allocated to preorders or if they actually anticipate having some cameras left over for people who didn’t preorder early. If they original stock is all allocated how long until we get more in the US?
They’re available in Asia off the shelf since day #1 , good chance it’ll be the same way here.

I am sure that Josh is right: B&H, for example, is still taking pre-orders, but expects to start shipping December 1, even cameras ordered now. But the orders will go out the door roughly in the order they came in, so it is possible some who delay will get delayed fulfillment.

The NEX-7, that was a hot item.
Because Sony has anticipated it would be hot, and produced a large supply.
Camera makers predicted their products would be hot sellers for the last two years and produced accordingly, to find their products languishing on shelves and distribution centers.
This killed them, and the financial report summaries of most camera makers state they no longer intend to produce for inventory. They were forced to slash prices and remainder out new old stock to make room for new models.
Hence, camera makers are very gun shy about over producing. If anything they’ll be cautious.
I’ve seen nowhere where Sony predicted that this will be a hot seller and produced accordingly. And even if they did, camera maker track records in these predictions recently have been wrong almost across the board.
He’s saying that given all the money Sony stands to make during the holidays on this, they’ve likely made DAMN sure they’ve got enough inventory. Though there was a report recently that pre-orders were triple what Sony expected, so he may be wrong…
Unless we know what number they expected, saying pre-orders are triple their predictions doesn’t mean much.
I had pre-orders in at three online retailers myself originally, by the way. So I at one time contributed to that inflated number. I ended up cancelling every one of them. Pre-order numbers are notoriously unreliable.
Incentally, how would Sony even know how many pre-orders each retailer took. Does the retailer then place individual orders in to Sony’s importer for each one?

I preordered the a7r, have the Rhino cam on the way, but my metabones won’t work well. Too tight a fit, especially for my L glass. They are out of stock now so I don’t know wth it will take to get an exchange on the metabones. From B&H reviews, it appears this overly tight fit is a regular issue for metabones.

I was in B&H last night and they were still saying the end of this month/early next month. Let’s hope this was just info from an associate who was reading from the computer screen and not knowing the behind the scene details.
I just got written confirmation from B&H that they are not anticipating shipping until 12/1. Maybe they are ignorant of their own business. Maybe not. Maybe this is SR5 just like the z-axis stabilization.

Their physical store and shipping center are worlds apart on communication about stock, almost treated like separate businesses (actually a lot of online stores with physical presences are like this).
I was forced to do a baby shower this past sunday and my nex-6 started acting up. I did a search and apparently some people are having a problem with the E-mount contacts going bad after a while of switching lenses that causes the camera to reset because of the camera not recognizing the lens. I really hope this problem is fixed with the A7 A7r.
Any idea on the 55mm? I unfortunately waited 3 days to decide on preordering that one. Still have some hopes I’ll get that lens before year’s end.

Agreed!!! I wonder if anyone worldwide has had their pre-order cancelled and/or been notified of a delay due to an “inventory shortage” (besides the 55mm).
Maybe this gives Sony more time to build up a larger inventory for the camera hungry USA? Hell I can only hope…
eBay – that great bellwether of supply and demand – is up to 23 sales of a7/kit/r, most with multiple units (UK). The prices will not be attractive to the North American market but come out about right for EU after VAT. So, for the moment, world supply does not seem constrained – or prices would be higher.
It takes longer to ship from Japan to the US or EU than it does to Japan or China. It’s only logical that ours would ship later. Maybe you should have ordered for Sony Japan or some such and paid for international shipping,
Or Sony could have done a synchronized worldwide release! I’ve heard that buying from Japan/outside the US puts your warranty in question, not to mention that the camera is probably locked in the Japanese language.
What is the point of a world wide synchronized release? If you aren’t waiting, then everyone else that has had access to it weeks earlier is waiting. You get it as soon as it can be shipped to you. You’d get it the same time you would be now anyway? Selfish much?

The price in China is about 100 dollars less than the US for the a7 and kit lens, plus i’m getting a free 32gb SD card and a couple other small freebies.

Adorama shipped out my LA-EA3 adapter last night, but sent me another “item still on back order” email regarding the A7r this morning. My pre-orders with other vendors are still pending, though I cannot check B&H for some reason their order tracking system is down for maintenance (how conveeeeenient :P).
When I preordered the LAEA-3 the ship date was early December……. I got it last week. So I can totally believe this rumor. It would be great to have the A7 for the Holiday next week!
Looks on schedule to me… as long as I get it before Thanksgiving vacation I’ll be happy so I can spend some time enjoying it.

Just because the price is not justifiable to you does not mean it will fail. Just look online, so many people are interested in this camera and the Nikon DF, even considering selling their current systems for them.
