Canon EF lens owners that want to use their lenses on the E-mount (FF or APSC) cameras usually have to buy the Metabones adapter ($399 here at BH) to have full electronic support. A SAR reader noticed that there is a much cheaper alternative lens that does the same job. It’s the Vitrox that can be bought for $170 at Amazon US (Click here).

  1. Thes types of offers, especially those for non sony adapters, will go a long way towards getting non sony users to buy sony.
It is also encouraging that thes offers are for brand new models rather than just the old ones.
    Good marketing move!

  2. Has anyone used these Viltrox adapters? I would be interested in seeing some reviews, as of yet I can’t find anything consistent on via Google.

  3. Watch out!
There are indeed a bunch of electronic EOS to E adapters out there. I bought one on ebay for 180$ last year, and I am perfectly happy with it. BUT, I am buying a Metabones adapter MARK III, because they are the ONLY ONES to support full frame. The one I currently have and the vitrox only cover APS-C, and will thus crop lens image circle on an a7 body.

If you plan on buying a full frame sony mirroless, be sure to buy an adapter that covers full-frame. AFAIK, only the last metabones mark III (not mark I or II) cover full frame.

    1. I believe mxcamera has an electronic FF compatible adapter as well for canon lenses as they started testing on the vg900 when they were making the contax g AF adapter.

    2. Metabones are generally the highest priced but their adapters are very well built and the ones I have had work very well. I find their AF, although slow, to be the most similar to native lens.

    3. Good point, these viltrox are basically metabones v2 knockoffs?
hopefully we’ll see more affordable v3 equivalent adapters soon. I would pay $399 if the adapters could achieve decent AF speed, but sadly that’s not the case.

  4. Focus Camera has changed over the years and has a top notch customer satisfaction for the last decade you can see their real reviews on Amazon and eBay

    1. These companies all have their cameras, or will in the next few days.. they’re just waiting for Sony to allow them to start shipping them… Hopefully before Dec 1st.. either way this company has bad bad reviews, I’d skip it.

  5. This is going to sell more Canon, what are they thinking?

Sony is getting confused. If they think more people will buy Sony & Canon lenses to use them on, they are really mistaken. Good for only existing Canon users maybe

    1. So you don’t apprechiate that they probably care more about existing users with lenses of other systems than about making profit with their own lenses? Where has this capitalism brought us? I love Sony for doing this! For a company that has so many proprietary technology it’s really awesome that they create something like an “open camera platform” to play around with and people out there just do it and love it! Thats just great!

      1. No, Sony didn’t create this “open platform”. Its 3rd party who wants a small slice of the pie, they are the ones making adaptors & making this possible. It is still a Sony proprietary mount, or Nikon or Canon or Pentax or Oly, etc etc… for that matter

      2. Kajargoogoo is right, E-mount is not open. It’s even more closed than M43, which already has 3rd party cameras from two manufacturers and even more coming

    2. It’s advantageous for Sony. Even if 20% existing Canon 5D owners buy A7, that’s good profit for Sony. And users can slowly switch from Canon to Sony

      1. except they wont. they will buy a Sony body but not sony lenses since they get to keep using their canon lenses. so while this makes it easy to buy Sony instead of Canon, it makes it equally easy to go back to canon or to use both side by side.

  6. I’m very tempted to order from them even though I still have my order with BH, but I’m too wary about their reviews.

  7. Way, way back RJ were selling a glassless electronic adapter for EF to NEX-E. They were happy to claim that it was no clone and all their own work. This was perhaps proved that their adapter would try and mostly succeed in focusing ALL EF lenses and not limited to EF made from “about 2006” as the Smart Adapter. Even the old Canon EF 85mm f1.2 MkI will do AF on this adapter. Of course it was masked to aps-c – I look forward to an unmasked version. It only had one firmware set unlike the Metabones dual firmware set.
