We all like the A7-A7r but the biggest problem is the limited and expensive lens range. But Samyang announced that they will release five prime lenses for the new FF E-mount system within…two months! Here are the primes that will be released:

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC
Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC
Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC
Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC

These lenses will be manual focusing, cheap and deliver a high quality performance. Right what we need! The only issue…these lenses are actually designed for DSLR cameras and what they will do is just to make them E-mount. It means lenses will be big. A proper E-mount designed lens would have been smaller and more likeable.

Currently Samyang already offers four Cine E-mount FF lenses:
14mm T3.1 Cine Lens for Sony E sold as [shoplink 21135 ebay]Samyang (eBay)[/shoplink], [shoplink 21136 ebay]Rokinon (eBay)[/shoplink], [shoplink 21137 ebay]Bower (eBay)[/shoplink].

  1. You mean “marketing spectacle”

Who wants to put a wager on EcoR1’s theory that these are just the same lenses with a different housing to match the FE mount?

I put a fiver (quids) on that if anyone’s in.

      1. Why would you want a fisheye without distortion? Personally, I vomit a little in my mouth every time I see that wide angle lens warping.

    1. 14mm and 24mm are the worst samyang lens . 24f1.4 is very soft wide open and 14mm the same story . 34 f1.4 is worth money and I think can competition with zeiss 35 f1.4 or f2 version . 85 f1.4 is good too .

    1. does the autofocus work on the nex , what adaptor are you using , try ing to figure out the best ef tonex adaptor is

  2. Sony knows what Nikon is up to, that’s why Sony is not going overboard with lens investments, they leave that to Zeiss, Samyang and others.

  3. Hey don’t forget about the battery life problem ;)… they should work on new battery which lasts as much as the nex 7 one ( 450 photo instead of 270). Otherwise the presentation will be lying when they said it ‘s a new ff camera with compact body ;)… Indeed to take a reasonable number of pics we need the add-on battery grip which makes the A7 look like the Nikon D4 😉

        1. Wouldn’t one of these cameras with the vertical grip attached solve the battery problem and work quite well with larger SLR lenses?

  4. “the only issue…these lenses are actually designed for DSLR cameras and what they will do is just to make them E-mount. It means lenses will be big. A proper E-mount designed lens would have been smaller and more likeable.”

The approach is actually OK for 40mm+. If you notice, “native” Zeiss FE 55/1.8 is also made like this.

  5. I am using 8mm f2.8 fisheye and 85mm Cine t1.5 emount versions with my NEX7 and I am liking it.

As far my analysis the metabones speed booster works best with canon EF lens and Nex cameras. But its pricy, only the adapter is $599, also the AF is not as fast as it is in canon cameras.

MF is easy in NEX7 thats why I have no issues with this lenses but AF is always a star. We badly need some 50mm with AF from Rokinon/Samyang.
