As you know, Samyang just announced the Samyang 16mm f/2.0 X-mount (click here). According to a FR-reader from Malaysia, it will arrive in stores there at the end of June.
And more good news. At the facebook page of Rokinon here you can see the first images of the new 300mm f/6.3 mirror lens (for E-mount) and a video here. The X-mount version will follow.
Seems that Samyang is about to release a whole new range for the Fuji X-mount… and now we wait for Sigma to do the same ๐
To what belongs Sigma, I’ve read here that Sigma Corporation America said โUnfortunately Fuji did not use the Micro Four Thirds mount and doesnโt have the market share Sony does, Iโm not going to say we will not make lenses for your mount but not at this time.โ So, buy a Fuji X to convince Sigma ๐
cheers

Now where does this aperture look familiar …
Oh yes, the Leica ‘mini’ is this slow simply zoomed in a little. ๐
Wait no, it’s F6.3 so the Leica is slower at F6.4 ! ๐ฎ
Anyway, could be a fun lens to play with, nothing serious i guess.
But Samyang’s on a roll !
Now please, make us a cheap+small 10mm F4 or something. ๐
They did show a 10mm F2.8 at Photokina, but it’s for SLR i believe so it’s huge.
Something like the Voigtlander 15mm F4.5 but for APSC would be nicer to use.
It doesn’t mean they won’t eventually produce a mirrorless version like they have for their wonderful 8mm fisheye and the mirrorless version has improved performance while being half the size.
That said, Samyang’s rectilinear ultrawide history isโฆ less than wonderful. Sure the 14mm f/2.8 lens is sharp, but, it has some of the worst, uncorrectable distortion I’ve seen in any lens. That puts some serious limitations on its usefulness to me. I think I would rather get the Fuji 10-24mm or the CZ 12mm f/2.8 (or just stick with my14mm f/2.8 Fuji which seems to be doing just fine for me so far).
Yeah. I wouldn’t mind vignetting, or even a little softer edges if it’s cheap enough to just be a fun lens to use, but mustache distortion is no good. (though there is software that can correct that too, i just don’t want to, otherwise i might as well go photostitching or straighten a fisheye.) The 14mm is still on top of my to-get-after-the-initial-18-55-kit list, but a 10mm is something completely different imo.
Even Lr4-5 corrects it quite well with the correct profile & with PT lens it’s even better.
Personally I like these mirror type lenses.. I have and use one on my SLR kit. However, many Bokeh purists will poo poo a lens such as this as the oof areas can be not as pleasing to the eye. One thing for sure, the birders are going to love a lens like this. Now, if only focus peaking would come to the XPro-1 I would be very happy indeed…
I guess it’s more of a as-much-DoF-as-possible kind of lens anyway. ๐
These reflex lenses are fixed apertured so you have no DOF control. The DOF you get is what you are given, and at 300mm f/6.3 it will be very slim indeed.
Oh yeah, completely forgot about that. ๐ฎ
