An Asian Samyang retailer unveiled on Facebook the first picture and specs of the new Samyang 16mm f/2.0 lens. It will come for Fuji X mount too. They write: “The 16mm focus length with rectilinear imaging system ensure extra wide angle of view amounting to 83.1 degrees (for Nikon version and 79.5 for Canon). The big aperture opening of F2.0 ensure photographers able to use it for low light environment like night street shooting. The weight of the lens is just about 571g, as a result this lens will be a attractive carry on for architecture and landscape shooting.”

I hope that it will be cheap, otherwise XF 14 🙂
Weight only 571g with 77mm filter? Is this MF only lens? This samyang must be massive! Fuji 14mm f2.8 is only 235 grams.
I do not see the appeal of this lens on fuji x mount. Well I know that depends on its price.
A new Fuji 14mm is now 740 usd, and there is also a Fuji 18mm f2 whose 2nd hand price of a mint copy is only 350-400 USD. I don’t think the field of view at 16mm is different enough from the 18mm to justify choosing samyang over Fuji 14 or 18 offerings. If the price is near 300 usd and it’s MF only, I’d rather choose a 2nd hand Fuji 18mm.
It’s that big and heavy because it’s designed for SLRs with longer flange distance, thus requiring a non retrofocus optical scheme
Then it’s worth even less consideration. Why would i buy one in Fuji X mount if I’d better get a Nikon version and mount it on Fuji X with an adapter. I can even change an adapter to mount it on a Sony Nex body that I perhaps will buy one in the future.
This lens would be fine and balanced well on DSLR, but it just doesn’t make much sense on a small mirroless body.
Yes, it is big lens… but this can help reduce price of “used” XF 14 or XF 18 ! Thanks for every new lens for X mount
Samyang make fantastic lenses, I’ve got their 8mm fisheye on my X-E1 and it’s generally superb. I used to use a 14mm Samyang on my Nikon which was also very good. Only obvious concern with this is that it sounds very big and heavy compared to most X lenses.
It’s not a real mirror-less lens, too bad. I guess the Canikon Dx users will be happy, this is something they’ve been missing for a very long time.
Great to see more support from 3rd party lens manufacturers, unfortunately I feel this lens is too big and heavy and will struggle in the overcrowded wideangle range. We now have a 12, 14, 16, 18 and 18-55 zoom, I’m all for choice but something in the 85mm range might be nice. Cheers Jon
This is basically a DSLR lens with an adapter for XF mount. If you consider such weight and size usable you might as well get Samyang 85mm f/1.4 (500g) for Nikon mount plus a cheap adapter.
In my opinion this lens is completely useless on mirror-less considering excellent 14mm which weights 3 times less and is much smaller.
Hi, I currently have a canon fd 85 1.8 I use with a cheap adapter, the results are quite good and the lens is a lot smaller and lighter than the samyang 85 1.4, I would however like an autofocus prime lens which is quite compact and 85mm, I’d go to 2.8 to make it smaller. Cheers jon
Thanks Samyang. I have used their 14mm on my D800 with very good results, but I’m waiting on either a price drop on the 14mm F2.8, or the 10-24 F4. I will get one or the other to add to my 18-55 and the 35mm
