Rumors from others: Samsung goes Android, Sony makes new RX and Fuji X100s gets water damaged.

There will be no new MFT announcement this month. But the compettiton isn’t standing still and we will see many new cameras in the two coming weeks:

Samsung:
Samsung will launch the Galaxy NX camera with Android OS on June 20. (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Sony:
Sony will launch two new RX cameras, the RX1R and RX100MII. (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Fuji:
Fuji will announce a new entry level X camera. But they better be sure to take care of their shipments because the latest Fuji X100s US shipment got water damaged 🙂 (more info at MirrorlessRumors).

Reminder: The big Olympus and Panasonic camera and lens release are expected by late August and early September.

  1. Sony RX100 M2 could be an option to me!

Well build, good quality pics & most of all it is possible to catch it in the jacket pocket for that I can make pictures Sunday afternon 😉 (but don’t have to have bad feelings if I don’t take any pictures).

  2. RX100 M2 is a functional upgrade. It adds a hot shoe and a tilting screen, but no updates to either the sensor or lens. As I already own the M1, it won’t be a buy for me. However, if they can decrease the size and weight further, improve the sensor’s dynamic range and light sensitivity, increase the focal range and decrease the f-stop, and add weather sealing while maintaining the functional benefits of the M2… I will gladly buy that camera!

    1. According to the leaked manual, the new version will feature a BSI Exmor R sensor, while the current version has a non-BSI Exmor.

How much of a difference this may make, remains to be seen.

    2. you want weather sealing and faster f stop lens … but still want it to be smaller! they performed an engineering masterpiece cramming a 1″ sensor into a body THAT small already – can’t see this getting noticeably smaller

  3. The only product that catching my eyes is RX100 MRK2 if I really want to get for daily works .
Big announcement in Aug – Sept for m4/3 cameras , I only consider it big if GX7 / OMD come out with entire new sensors . The OMD likely with new Sony generation sensor but I doubt GX will do .

  4. That Samsung screen looks quite large. Good grip too. Maybe Sony will build a proper nex.
I might look at the Sammy if that 18-200 is any good.

Not sure why you decorate that info with a smiley.

  6. That Galaxy-NX is revealing. These days cameras are all little computers connected to lenses. I’m glad somebody has the courage to show it off in a time when others try to hide the sad state of photography behind fancy “analogue” interfaces. So kudos to Samsung, even if the irony had somehow escaped them.

    1. I am just afraid that any complexer OS in a camera adds to the chance it crashes during that once-in-a-lifetime capture opportunity.

      1. Especially when it an OS known for it’s viruses and tweaked by a company who has made the software accidentally vulnerable to attacks before. Last thing you want is a virus getting onto a camera that can erase all the data stored on a memory card.

      2. +1
This is not for serious photographers. And, if it has a phone module inside, imagine when you shoot a wedding and for example monther-in-law calls you needing some help with FB, etc. The camera would quickly kiss the wall 🙂

      3. It’s a gadget, not a tool for serious photography. Nevertheless, multi-function has its appeal with consumers and I can’t imagine a camera that is less dedicated to photography while (presumably) producing high quality imagery.
Anyway, I’m interested in the conceptual implications of this product much more than I consider it a buying option. In fact I’m all for single function. I never even use the video recording capabilities in my camera.

On a side note, this camera would offer some intriguing possibilities like privately watching pornography in public :).

  7. What competition?

    The 4/3rds is peerless!

(Never mind. The 43rds is dead. It is the micro 43rds that is peerless)
