New image of the OWL drop in filter adapter.

This is an image of the new Micro Four Thirds OWL drop in filter adapter devleoped by MXcamera.

The advantages you get with that drop in filter are:
1. for ultra wide angle or fish eye lens, no way to install the filter. Rear drop filter is the only way to solve the problem.
2. For Cine lens, like Canon CP / Zeiss CT lens, the filter is thread is 95mm, very expensive filter, a rear drop in filter can reduce the cost
3. easy to change drop in filter and will not affect the setting, front lens filter may change your setting when un-installing, especially the lens is not internal focus….
4. The setting of rear drop in filter will not change while you change the lens, more efficient
5. For telephone lens, the lens body is too long, when you attached the lens on tripod, this is difficult change the filter.
using rear drop in filter, you can change the filter and keep an eye in the viewfinder.
6. MX is now developing the tele-converter lens for this adapter, so you can upgrade this adapter to tele-converter easily.

The filter will go on sale early 2014. And they will sell it on their eBay Store.

    1. “The filter will go on sale early 2014. And they will sell it on their eBay Store.”

Was that really so hard to understand? It means the filter will be on their eBay store in 2014. Admin was kind enough to post their eBay store so people can take a look around to see what’s available, and in 2014 the item will be there…

  1. I would prefer to have a massive piece of glass in front, for protection, but clever offering, especially if it could be combined with a Speed-Booster-type thingy…

Perhaps, I could just get over my fear of de-minting the lens? 🙂

    1. > For telephone lens, the lens body is too long, when you attached the lens on tripod, this is difficult change the filter.

Not only that, when I used to have a 280/2.8, I could hurt myself trying to take off the lens cap (more like a vacuum seal safety lid), never mind trying to unscrew the E112 filter. I don’t think I ever did unscrew the filter, in fact…

Which reminds me, will this come with a tripod mount?

  2. Am I missing where it says what lens mount this is going to be for? Or are they making them for multiple types?

I assume you couldn’t have a “native” m43 one, since it would screw up the focal plane even if you could pass the electrical contacts through.

  3. @all, Google is your friend. Don’t be lazy.

From the MX Camera Blog: http://www.mxphotoclub.com/?p=1448

    Comes this:
    “We will make it for:
    Canon EF / Nikon G – NEX and Canon EF / Nikon G – m43.
We are now discussing with filter manufacturers and preparing the CPL/Fade ND filter for it.
We sure that all you guys will love it so much!”

So it will be no good for me, as I’ve only got OM mount legacy lenses…..

    1. May be that OM lenses can be adapted on the Canon mount ? Depends how long the OM flange distance is. If it is longer than the Canon EF mount, then it can be adapted on the Canon new adapter. But you would need to use two adapters.

  4. Finally an elegant solution for using a filter on all those lenses with an enormous front element like the Nikon 14-24. If this hits the market, going mirrorless will be an even better choice for landscape people as they don’t have to mess with big and expensive filters anymore. Same applies to video people, esp. when going for thin DOF footage.

They better not compromise on the quality of the glass.

    1. Is there even going to be any glass in a non-speedbooster type? I’d think it would just be a tube with a slot for a filter.

Or did you mean the quality of the glass in the filter, in which case that would come down to who you bought the filter from, I’d think.

  5. Yeah great for ‘telephone’ lenses…
I have to agree with the guy above – holymanta already has a solution for this, plus it can inserted without having to pull out the hole filter and leaving a big hole…

  6. HAHA, GX7 is way too much overated, evf is shit, no WS, no IBIS ! Even a 600$ omd EM-5 outperform it at every level !

      1. Ah yes, your opinion is ‘better’…

I’ve been using 9.5mm, 2/3″, 4/3″, aps (film), aps-c, aps-h, 35mm (film and digital), medium format and various large formats, so my opinion is even better then yours?

What an arrogant person you are.

        1. That bit of text was copy/pasted from an earlier post by me, you do not have the copyright on it, and you don’t have permission to use it. If you use it, at least use it appropriately.

To the point, seeing how the GX7 has in-body image stabilization, you clearly don’t know much about the camera you are commenting on.

    1. Only an insecure wanker would feel the need to insert rants about totally unrelated topics into every comment thread he can. The GX7 must really have you worried for you to post about it so much. Why don’t you ask your mommy to charge the battery in your iphone so you can take some more selfies?

  7. Actually, if this like an MMF three adapter that unites 43rds lenses with m43 bodies, but with a filter drawer, this would be a pretty neat idea that will allow me to use filters on my 8mm and 7-14 with my future EM1 camera.

    1. that would be the most and only sensible option for this device… other than that it would be for dumb eos mount… this can be adapted to nikkor or OM
