Metabones launches the new Nikon G to MFT Speed Booster!

If you own Nikon G lenses you can finally grab the just launched Speed Booster adapter for MFT! It’s in Stock on Metabones website. This si their second adapter for Micro Four Thirds after the Leica R version. And soon to come is the third adapter for OM lenses. The Metabones adapter may be pricey but do deliver a far better quality than the Lens Turbo (coming soon) or Vizelex (in Stock at Amazon) alternatives.

      1. How would electronic contacts help an FD lens?

Regardless, I agree… FD is the system that really requires a good speedbooster and would bring in the most money for the maker.

    1. I was going to say that. This Nikon G to MFT Speed Booster is their third MFT Speed Booster out, not second.

  1. $429. Costs more than 3 times the nice little Nikkor 50mm 1.8!
Is it solid gold with a diamond lens? And fully manual only.
Methinks big ripoff here, real big ripoff.

    1. This adapter costs as much as some Nikon bodies alone. I’d say it only makes sense for specialized applications, such as video on a GH3. For photo you’d be better off just picking up a cheap Nikon body and actually have full use of the Nikkor glass.

  2. YES!!!! its about time,

Righty, time to buy some samyang cine glass in the nikon mount and one of these babys!

  3. Can anyone confirm that it has no electronic contact and therefore has no autofocus? i heard that metabones has AF

  4. I still don’t get the prices for some OM lenses. Why would you spend $300 for an OM24/2.8 when you can get the great Lumix 20/1.7 for $350? Even the Sigma 19mm is cheaper.

    1. For me, the Lumix doesn’t do a very good job on my OM-1.

Also, when I bought the MF-2 OM-m43 adapter, I had all these ideas of using my OM lenses on my m43 bodies but the 2x crop means it’s really only worthwhile using at the tele end.

The ultra wide angle zuikos are expensive because they provide an alternative to UWA lenses for people shooting movies on canon mount. They are also ridiculously high quality lenses. The 21/2 is probably worth it.

I wouldn’t bother adapting anything shorter than 50mm because I get better performance from native m43 lenses. Even though I have the 24, 28 and 35 f/2’s.

OM lenses are optically too good for anyone wanting an overt artistic effect. They do offer a nice mechanical manual focus, an aperture ring and a different rendering of colour and bokeh.

Also, I am currently selling my mint 24/2.8 on ebay for $240 so your comment is a bit inaccurate.

    2. I bought the OM24/2.8 several years ago as it was shown to be one of the best om lenses on 4/3. works well.
I must use it on the em5, but I tend to use the 14-150mm and the 20mm and 28mm voigtlanders.
Older does not mean cheaper or inferior. But its a matter of personal preference.

    3. Generally agree with you both but your OM1 is not M43’s. Also, i was only referring to the cost of the wider lenses as the 50/1.8’s are available for the price of chips. My OM50/1.8 cost me $15 and its just as good optically (even wide open) as my 45/1.8. I used the OM50 lots and only bought the 45/1.8 because i got sick of trying to focus in bight sun on my EP1 – virtually impossible.

But its all a bit academic now as i don’t bother with the OM50 on my EM5 – which is ironic as i updated from the EP1 to the EM5 mainly because of the VF. So my current kit is made up of 20/1.7 and 45/1.8 with the 14-150 and 12-50 zooms. Though i have only used the 14-150 twice – it’s not good enough (not compared to the other 3) to warrant it as a general all purpose lens despite of its focal range. Usually it’s the 20mm on the cam and the 45mm in my pocket – or vice-verse.

Hang on….are we posting in a decent manner on here?!? Back to the comfort of argumentative flaming and trolling.

Whiskybravo….it seems it is in your interest to keep the prices of the OM24’s inflated. Also, 300 is indeed accurate if you click though Shahanshah-Admin’s ebay links above – 264+24 is pretty close to $300 in my book.

JimD….sure that OM24/2.8 works well…but it’s slow to focus – even slower than the 20mm.

      1. Everything is slower than the 20mm voigtlander. Just set at f8 and zone focus and keep pressing the button. There is very little that is sharper than this lens at double the price or under. Even the Leicas.

        1. Yeah…i meant the Lumix 20/1.7 – it’s slow to auto focus…..err don’t worry about it.

    1. m43 is as good as or better than FF 135. No arguments there. At least from the 85+ m43 crowd. D800/E has no chance against OM-D. GH3 is even better. GF6 puts up a good fight as well.

    2. There are other places outside the USA , The E-p5 with its EVF iis within £200 of the D600 but it is not necessary to go to FF when a camera like the D7100 comfortably outperforms even the best mFT sensor. The E-M5 + 75mm comes in at £1500 the D7100 + 86mm f1.8 comes in at £1200 has the same DOF as an F1.2 mFT . The F1.8 Nikon is an excellent performer at a very good price it is even wether sealed and comes with a hood. I am a mFT user and have a couple of very good FT lenses I am hoping for a better FT lens AF on the OMD pro but I am worried about the UK pricing . There is no doubt it will be more expensive than the E-p5 + EVF but the question is how much more can mFT really bw worth

    3. My Son has a 6d and other gear. Nice camera, it gives great results. So does my em5 and I can carry it in one hand all day. So we both have what we want and suits each of us. That’s what life is about.

      1. I was replying to Dmb or something (can’t remember the name) and he said to buy FF instead of spending all this money on m43. Good thing admin deleted the trollish post but its sounds like I’m bashing FF for no reason, lol. Anyway, the 6D is nice and so is the D600. Good to see FF DSLR are getting more affordable. If I was still single, I would have both m43 and FF, but with 2 small kids and other expenses, it just doesn’t make sense especially for a hobby and I got others.

  5. This adapter is compatible with most Nikkor F (including G) lenses, so it should really be called Nikon F to m4/3 speed booster. There is NF inscription on the adapter itself.

    1. It’s easier to call it a “Nikon G mount” instead of calling it a “Nikon F mount that still works with Nikon G lenses” Just saying.

      1. For those of us interested in using the nikon G mount to M43 for a Black Magic Cinema Camera passive MFT mount, how can there be electronic communication to open up the nikon G lense aperture since that series frustratingly has no aperture ring. Is the speedbooster smart and powered by an active MFT mount and is this why they say it is for nikon G mount lenses?

I’m aware that it works with manual Nikon F for my future BMCC passive MFT. But the G series 16-80mm of mine on a passive MFT cam?

        1. Aperture control of regular Nikon G lenses is mechanic, not electronic. Currently only the Nikon PC-E lenses require electronic aperture control.

  6. Not particularly interested in the Metabones, but would like a good 21mm Zuiko (for use with a shift adapter), has to be better than my 24mm Miranda.
