  1. Interestingly, Amazon UK are offering the GH3 + 12-35mm zoom for £1,499 with a £150 Amazon voucher. If you look at that as being £1,349 and take into account the free battery grip offer worth £200, and the fact that the 12-35mm zoom is about £829 in the UK, that means you are getting the GH3 body for the equivalent of £320!!
In view of the upcoming OMD announcements, the arrival Nikon D7100 this year and the just announced Canon 70D (and the GH3’s EVF issue), I think Panasonic really need a new flagship model, maybe the GH5 could be closer than we think. The GX2/7 will probably help, but is is a very different type of camera to the GH3 form factor. Maybe GH5 by the end of the year?

    1. Why do Nikon and Canon mean we need a new GH model? Canon 70D isn’t out til much later this year and we have no idea of it’s quality and the Nikons are still much worse for video as well as both being much bigger heavier systems.

      1. Because people who are not yet committed to a system will look at Canon and Nikon as options, possibly also Fuji and Sony. Some (many) don’t see broadcast quality video as the top priority in buying a camera. I use m43 now and and think it is an excellent system, but I am a realist and see that that other systems are superior in certain situations. I had a Canon system before, but I am now contemplating a Nikon system for work where the m43 limitations come into play. However, A GH5 with an extra stop of high ISO quality and dynamic range (and resolved EVF issues) would probably win me over.

    1. You mean Bussiness as usual here right? Where were you when the ep5 had a price drop BEFORE it was available?

        1. The GH2 had the best m43 sensor available at the time with no competition from Oly. Right now, there is GH3, EM-5, EPM-2, EPL-5 and EP-5 with “best m43 sensor”, so competition is stronger inside m43. Competition outside m43 is also a major consideration. Another issue is the size. GH2 size was fine for more users than GH3. I think that GH3 was always thought more as a niche product than GH2 was.
To me, GH2 replacement is G6, with comparable specs and size, but also the same sensor, so it won’t hold its price either.

  2. m43 has a chronic problem. It is utterly incapable of making a profit. Products are released at such lofty list prices that they hardly sell. Eventually the sheer volume of the backlog of unsold product forces massive price drops. It’s a boon for consumers. But eventually a serious manager will see the books and close it down.

There are exceptions in the m43 line up. But they make the rule.

    1. The BlackMagic pocket camera is even better for video and it is shipping later this month, why this GH3 is being discounted now.
