Why come back again ?
Amazon should return all it’s existing stocks to Pana .
Please don’t come back anymore .
Yes Yun, how about you go away and don’t come back
You should do the same Yun…
Smirk.
Admin…we are HUNGRY for more GX2 info!…hard to believe its predesessor is selling for just $199…
Well, as a German, I was always a bit jealous for the great camera deals in the US.
Now I moved to the USA for working and would love to switch back to the german pricing system, which is cheap things for living (food…) and expensive luxury. Here in the USA it is vice versa. Everything you really need for live is horribly expensive, while electronics and fuel etc. are cheap.
So don’t be jealous for the US customers 😉
That makes me feel a little better. 😉 The prices are coming down on the GX1, but I’ll only consider it once it comes down to 200 – 250 €. I got my GF1 with the 14-45mm for 300 €, so I am very spoiled.
Overall, the prices for the GX1 show that it sold quite badly. Thankfully, Pana has learned from that.
Hopefully the next GX2 has the things that we ppl wanted (the built in EVF) and sold well to recover the loss of sales for pana GX1. Company should listen to its user, especially they are (pana, oly) not big brands like canikon
I can confim what Sören wrote. Europe is actually doing ok with prices. Let’s look at mobile phone plans as one example. In the UK I paid 10£(15$) a month for 750MB 3G/300min/300texts (giffgaff). In the US the cheapest option I can find is 500MB 4G/unlimited text&talk (which I don’t need) for 50$ (T-Mobile.
So the cheapest monthly option in the US is 50$ vs 15$ in the UK. That’s 420$ a year more. And just one example.
So don’t feel bad in Europe that you’re missing out on deals on luxury items. You’re getting some sweet deals on essential stuff 🙂
Actually, my cell phone (I hate those things), costs me only about $15 a month. Then again, its a stupid and not a smart phone. 😉
The US cell phone system is based on competition. In Europe they settled on a single network standard for convenience. I think the US will eventually follow suit.
If you are really looking for phone plans, Virgin Mobile has one for $35 and Tmobile has a $30 plan they sell through Walmart which isn’t advertised but anybody can get if they want. Google T-Moblie Walmart plan to find out about it. Those are the two best plans in the USA right now. Obviously most consumers in the US are getting gouged like crazy when it comes to phone plans, but if you are a diligent shopper things aren’t quite as bad as you make out.
That’s strange, I never thought that food was expensive in the USA. Houses, depending where, of course, I also thought they were cheaper than in Europe. Clothes about the same.
So when I see these deal I do feel jealous and wonder why. Why amazon.com sells the GX1 for $199 and amazon.es for 529 € (that’s 684 USD)? That’s 3.5x the price!
Anyway I’ll try to comfort myself thinking of what you said. You’re probably right if you are living in the USA now.
High quality food is very expensive in the US when compared to Western European prices. Housing is very expensive unless you live in a place without jobs or in a shanty out in the boonies, catching bullfrogs for dinner. Our low consumer goods prices in some areas (electronics mostly) come at a cost that those who don’t live here, and and many of those who do, hardly realize. Let’s not even mention cost and quality of healthcare.
I’ve been saying the same for years. Do you enjoy the imported Emmentaler at $24.99 per pound? Quark at $5 per pound? I’ve been making the latter myself for the past decade.
As a note: This is actually being sold by Adorama, not Amazon. If you buy through Amazon or eBay, they charge shipping of $10 or so. Through Adorama’s own site you can get it for a true $199.
….but for Adorama you pay sales tax in NJ……
I’m in PA and Amazon charges sales tax. Do they in NJ? I thought they did all states these days. eBay doesn’t though
Wow…awesome price. The temptation is hard to resist. Pair it with an eBay 14mm and you have a great landscape/street combo for less than $400.
$199 = €154 = £132!!! in an international market why in some countries, do some of us get the thin end of the wedge, the best price I’ve seen in the UK is £290 (inc 14-42). I paid more than that for my GF2 which feels better than the GX1 … GF2 = solid metal, GX1 = flimsy plastic. Thats not to say I wouldn’t buy a GX1 for the right price. As it now stands I wouldn’t be prepared to pay more that £130-£135 for a GX1 body … Am I likely to get that sort of chance? … in my dreams!!!
Why distort the facts? The GX1 body is all metal just go to DPR review and see where they report just how solid it is and feels. I believe the GX1 uses an aluminum alloy body while GF1 used a magnesium alloy body.
I should add that I like my GF2, its a lot more versatile than the more recent GF models … i.e. hot shoe and EVF
The E-P3 sales goes on an on. Olympus must have manufactured a tremendous number of them, or they sold very poorly for their first 1-2 years and now they vendors are trying to clear out stock. It just seems odd to me.
When m4/3 older model stocks are discounted, it’s all “doom and gloom”. When Canikon does the same thing, it’s considered “increasing market share”.
Anyway, I don’t see the problem with stores selling older models at discounted prices. It gives more people the opportunity to buy good cameras at more affordable prices. I see plenty of older model C, N & P DSLRs listed in my local stores and online retailers all the time. Nikon D3100, D5100, Canon 600D, Pentax K-r and others: models from 2-3 years ago and are still readily available at clearout prices.
Newer models are not always better, or don’t offer enough over the previous model to warrant the current market price. Picking up “obsoleted” and “older” products on the cheap can be a hobby in itself.
+1
You get to avoid the early adopter entrance fee this way. But, I can’t say that I can always hold off. 🙂
So, what’s the better deal here:
GX1 body @ $199
or
EP-3 kit @ $349
?
Wow! That is a great deal.
the GX1 is a modern classic – a this price it is a stall.
Damn it, the postage to australia just rips this deal, does it really cost $60 USD to ship something to australia? 🙁
Winston, I live in NZ and use YouShop to get it to NZ for much less than that (I purchased my GX1 last week for $199 from the earlier deal posted here!). There must be something similar for Australia too.
