(FT5) New upgraded Lens Turbo for MFT is coming by end of the year.

[shoplink 38940 ebay][/shoplink]

The new Lens Turbo for Micro Four Thirds sales will start in November. As you know the Lens Turbo is basically a Speed Booster alternative without electronic contacts. There are already [shoplink 38940 ebay]Lens Turbo auctions for NEX and X-mount on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. But there is also a good news to report:

Unlike the current NEX and X version The MFT Lens Turbo adapter will have an all new design to highly improve the quality. It has increased the edge sharpness and solved the blue spot problem. Great!

  1. Which lens mounts will it adapt? EOS? FourThirds?
FourThirds would be desirable, as the flange distance is quite short – letting you adapt M42, Nikon, EOS, OM, etc onto the booster.

    1. Probably those the NEX and Fuji versions adapt, too – Minolta SR/MC/MD and Pentax K; for NEX there also are adapters for Canon FD, Nikon F, M42, Contax/Yashica, with Leica R and Sony A-Mount being promised for the future.

      1. I’d love a Minolta SR/MC/MD version, as I’ve loads of good MD glass lying around. Adapting it through a standard mount adapter has been pretty frustrating for all except my macro lens, where the crop factor comes in handy as a further magnification and as a welcome increase in working distance, and a bright 50mm, which converts into a reasonable portrait lens. For everything else, the focal length reduction would be very welcome.

    2. never even crossed my mind that they could adapt the the shortest DSLR flange distance then put another adapter and do that.

    1. The Speed Booster people already thought about it but ruled it out, saying it would have to be bigger and closer to the sensor than physically possible with existing cameras in order to deliver acceptable image quality.

  2. Excellent. While it won’t offer a field of view similar to FF with adapted lenses, only a bit more than FF cropped to APS-C, I’m still anxious to see how good it will be. If it comes close to the original SpeedBooster, it may very well replace my NEX for shooting with legacy glass, some day when I’ve bought the E-M1 for making my move from FT to MFT…

  3. hmmm a speed booster with autofocus and sealing for 43 to m43, that would give some nice options on m43
Probably not possible though afaik you need a lens made for a bigger sensor to make it work.

        1. Speed boosting the sigma m43 is not possible with current production but the APSC versions for long flange distance, yes.
I say current production because there is absolutely no reason an adapter cannot be made that is not in the current adapter range (standard dumb ones). In other words the optics can make the mount flange length almost whatever one wants for any lens. The issue then becomes one of sharpness across the frame, distortion and gain in terms of aperture compared to the lens original aperture. Or in real words ‘is it worth it’. Som’ may say yea som’ may say nay.

          1. Hi Jim,
Not sure what you are trying to say here,as no one has mentioned using this ‘booster’ with a u43 lens. Rob suggested a 43 to u43 might be OK seeing as the Sigma is designed for 35mm sensor size, while I just pointed out that even though that is the case they are still produced with and for a 43 mount.

          2. What I was meaning is that using a 4/3 or m43 mount lens with a speed booster will not work on a m43 even if the lens has an apsc image circle. It will not work with a NEX version either (using the current paradigm) but will with a version for a mirror camera (if the speedbooster has a mount that is).
I also added that the flange distance should not, in reality, be a limiting factor. A lens or lens array could be made for converting almost any lens to any lens mount. The quality, speed and acceptability being the guiding factor.
Having an adapter that would fit a m43 lens on a EOS mount is possible it just depends on the optics used. However enlarging the image circle and moving the focal plane further back by a series of lenses would not give a good result I would think and be unacceptable in use.

  4. Yet again an instrument to make m43 bigger and expensive. If you want good lenses, good big sensor and small package just switch to Sony, Fuji etc etc….leave this wannabee system alone.

    1. Quite on the contrary, this adapter is a very moderately priced accessory to adapt existing legacy lenses and turn them into something you WOULD have to pay indecent amounts of money for in case they were newly designed dedicated lenses. And, for that matter, such lenses might well become larger and heavier, too.

    2. OLympus and Panasonic Micro 4/3 have better future and is better system than Sony and Fuji…they aren’t built in IBIS , have bad AF and big heavy lens.

Stop jealousy boy ,haters can stop the Micro 4/3 ‘s revolution.

Micro 4/3 is a consortium not only Olympus and Panasonic but also Sigma ,Leica …
Stop jealousy boy ,haters can stop the Micro 4/3 ‘s revolution.

  5. So we have the Light Cannon MK I at the low end, the Speed Booster at the high end, this in between and the Light Cannon MK II (+1 stop and +2 stops) is still unknown.

  6. hope this one will come with a Pentax K to m43 version!

I could now go out with Pentax LX for film and reuse happily the lens on an m43 body. The 2x crop factor is just a bit too much now.

    1. If you are doing landscapes then edge sharpness is important. But if you are doing portraits or using a fast lens wide open then edge sharpness is not critically important as there is no edge there to be sharp anyway. If the subject object is within a golden ratio then edge softness should not detract. But then again that’s up to you its your shot.

  7. These things are called “telecompressors” and are not uncommon in the world of refracting telescopes (which are just long lenses.) Many optics are designed to cover medium format film but a telecompressor is available for use with small 35mm sensors (ha ha, “full frame”) For instance, one company sells a telecompressor that takes their 1425mm/f8.3 and makes it a 1064mm/f6.1. That’s pretty close to the 1 stop of compression offered by the SpeedBooster or LensTurbo.

  8. Lens Turbo 2 Oh great improve quality very good I will wait , thanks I was going to get speed booster but now I will wait . F-NEX Lens Turbo 2 please .
