The GM1 will have about the size of the LF1 compact you see on top
The GM1 is going to be announced next week (October 17). And these are some of the cameras features:
- Same GX7 image processing engine and sensor
- built-in Wi-Fi
- Touch panel
- New 12-32mm lens has about the same size as a [shoplink 16258]14mm f/2.5 lens[/shoplink]
- Body quality is very high (like the GX7)
- Size is as small as the Panasonic LF1 or Sony RX100

Uhuhuh it is getting interesting. Now we are talking. Very low price, very small, quality IQ. Very well done Panasonic!
Looking forward more info..
erm.. we do not have any info on the price yet, so how can it be very low? and it is still ft4 only, so gx7 sensor is not certain either, would be great though.
The GX7 sensor? Hard to believe the smallest m43 body is also going to be rocking the best m43 sensor currently in circulation. I suspect it might end up shipping with the G6 sensor instead.
To me it doesn’t make sense to produce several different sensors, production costs are likely the same between latest and older models. That’s why Olympus has the same sensor in the E-M5, E-PM2, E-P5 and E-PL5.
The GX7 sensor performance is as close to the Oly sensor performance as makes no practical difference. Panasonic couldn’t put out a new small camera with a worse sensor than the E-PM2
Well, that’s been Oly’s strategy, and a lot of us wanted Panny to do it, too. Regardless, if true, it would be a great combination.
Let’s see…
There is an 80% chance that this camera will have the GX7 sensor. Well, the fact that the original posts said that this camera would have premium build-quality and that the camera is going to compete with large-sensor compacts (which are expensive)…I was expecting this sensor all along….the camera has to have Panasonic’s latest-greatest to attack that market….trumps the intended market with the new small zoom and the fact that the camera is an ILC…but no large f/stop. …I guess you have to pop on the 20mm f/1.7!
Also, let’s see…we have premium build-quality, latest sensor …so the price will NOT be low, you can count on that….but will this trump them all and have the provision for an add-on VF…THAT WOULD BE SWEET!
Is the accessory port confirmed? I’d actually rather have a built-in EVF like the LF1’s, even low res. Adding a big, expensive accessory seems to defeat the purpose of making the camera as tiny as possible.
NOTHING is confirmed. People seem to forget that this is a RUMOR site, not a newspaper.
I know that. I actually misread the post I was responding to — “this will” instead of “will this” — so that I thought the post was asserting some FT4 or 5 detail I’d missed.
Well, if the compactness + build quality + IQ are all there, the camera can be priced accordingly, and I am in anyhow.
I much prefer a good tool to a not-so-good-but-cheap one
Very low price? Then what do they drop it to after three months? Free?
Well, yes, then it just might turn out to be awesome.
Here is a comparison in size between the Ricoh GR, the Panasonic LF1 and the Panasonic GF5 with the 14mm f/2.5 lens:
http://camerasize.com/compact/#454,315.5,456,ha,t
How will they manage to shrink the size of the GM1 + lens to be like the LF1 is a HUGE mystery to me.
I think that size of the camera would be like LF1. Then the lens would be like 14mm f2.5.
In the worst case, perhaps the mount would have to be protruding a little to get to the right register distance. In the best case, it would be like sticking a 14mm in front of the LF1, giving depth and portability about the same as the GXR or Sony RX100.
But the GM1 was rumoured to be the answer to fixed lens high end compacts, so I’m not yet too sure if it will have a m43/any mount at all.
What about aperture?
A zoom lens that small will have a small aperture.
Looks like LF and LM series are replacing LX line
Sounds good but it sounds expensive.
I heard it’s not expensive!
Not expensive compares to GX7 or GF6?
It is indeed a relative thing. And you pay for what you get. Would be happy if the body and kit lens cost $700 or less.
Please. If the rumors of magnesium body and leather trim, with GX7 sensor, are true, this is not going to be an inexpensive camera. It may be cheaper than the GX7, but that’s still a long way from cheap.
Well, that’s great, but the LF1 is only a tiny bit smaller than the GF6, apart from body thickness.
Not sure that will justify all the hyperbole…..where will they put the lens mount? I hope they have a retracting lens mount, would be a real point of difference.
http://camerasize.com/compare/#452,456
Not sure if retracting mount would be a good idea. Any moving part adds complexity to design, vulnerability to damage and adds to cost.
I suppose you still drive a Model T Ford, they are far less complex than modern cars
To be fair Don the LF-1 includes a 28-200mm lens. How does the size thing work out with zooms mounted on the GF6 to cover that range on mFT
Dontom…the GF6 is 38% thicker than the LF1. That is a lot and REALLY cuts down on the “pocket ability”.
Correct, but the thickness of the GF series is dictated by the mount, in order to maintain the flange depth. The only way I can think of to make a real difference there is to have a lens mount that collapses into the body when not in use. If they don’t do this, whatever lens they mount is still going to stick out the front.
Of course the lens is going to stick out the front..it’s an ILC camera. The discussion is that the “body” will be the size of the LF1. The compact zoom will help keep it small and provide some zoom range….but ya just can’t have it both ways. Not with an ILC AND a decent size sensor.
It’s also narrower, and the thickness difference is pretty big. Both height and thickness are dicated by the mount, and height-wise the limit has already been reached.
The GF6 is also considerably wider and weights 68% more.
I hope the EVF will be better than that of the LF1.
Unfortunately I dont think it has an EVF at all ;(.
Who said there would be an EVF ?
LF1 has an EVF and it’s small, why not? If there’s a good eVF it will be hard to resist.. (Let’s see the price first)
Well the GM1 will have one of the following:
1. No viewfinder
2. A small crappy built-in VF like the LF1
3. The provision for an add-on LVF
I hope it’s number 3!
Me too, I could steal the Oly VF-2 I gave to my gf.. 🙂
Marco, that won’t mount on a Panasonic, sadly.
Ever since the first Olympus bodies came along with an accessory port, it’s bugged me that the two companies didn’t make the port part of the m43 standard, and took separate paths instead. Dumb, dumb, dumb. And a fourth “dumb” for Panasonic using what they must have known to be a dead-end, low-capability port on the GF1/GF2/LX5.
Here’s an opportunity to make it right: IF Panasonic ever releases another camera with accessory port, use the damned Oly port, which is also used by Leica.
Godot
Good Point..
If Panny collaborates with Leica and Oly collaborates with Leica….there is no reason that all three could have one standard for VF tech.
I agree that the acc. port should’ve been shared, like the hotshoe. But I really want to see both Oly and Pany use a new hotshoe with a slim port in it like the one in RX100ii/RX1, so that it won’t have to stick up too much like it does on the OM-D. Probably would to have some kind of adaptor too for backwards compatibility.
Really?!?! That’s nonsense!!!
small revolution, great! 🙂
The *really* interesting bit of information will be whether it has an EVF or not.
This will make a world of a difference in terms of the target audience…
Panny answered to the Sony RX100 II and is a interchangeable lens at that. Look like a pocket-able carry-around m43 camera for me.
GX7 sensor for GM1 ? Really ?
I wonder how Pana going to sell GF6 , GH3 & G6 once this GM1 is available .
I imagine they will sell their higher spec models the same way that Olympus sells the E-PL5,E-PM2,E-P5,E-M5 all with identical sensors.Even the upcoming E-M1 doesn’t look to be moving image quality forward though it has an excellent feature set
GF: has tilting screen, plastic build, likely cheaper
G: arcticulating screen, semi-plastic, more external controls, EVF
GH: weather-sealed, suberp video + G features, more expensive
also all of them are bigger.
The GM1 has its niche.
Also: GH3 announced September 2012. It would not be too surprising to see a GH5 next year.
I think the Price will be around 700€ With Lens.
Rx100 Mark II costs directly from Sony 749€ in Germany
I am really hoping it has an EVF built-in a major weakness of all these types of camera, Nikon coolpix A, Sony RX100,even the RX1, the bolt on option for the Sony models is pretty big
http://i1.wp.com/photo.minwt.com/img/Content/DC/sony-rx100-II/sony-rx100-II_04.jpg
I think you are about right. Admin says: “I heard it’s not expensive!” so I’m *hoping* for 600 euro, but 700-750 euro seems more likely.
600 euro is not expensive?
350 euro is the limit on not expensive as far as I am concerned.
Thank admin, this is a great new.
if it have an buiilt-in evf like LF1 just for framing, it’s more a great new.
It should be the best and smaller compact with interchangeable lens, good job Panasonic.
So, must be a slow lens?
Is there any word if it will either come with an EVF or at least allow for an external option. For me personally I consider an EVF a necessity rather than just an optional extra.I will not buy another mFT without an EVF preferably built-in. I imagine given how small the LF-1 is even with an EVF that it should be possible to do so with a mFT small body , after all there is no built-in lens to accommodate.
Give me a built-in EVF.
GX7 sensor
Mounted with a prime makes for a real winner for me
I would like an built-in evf too but it’s hard to built an evf corner like LF1 with a 4/3 sensor, screen LCD behind. Admin told it will be thin like a RX100.
Then go buy the GX7
It is looking better and better. If it has a decent timelapse function, I’ll definitely buy this little guy. So bring it on Panasonic.
Holy Moly. That sounds frickin amazing. Price?
While I don’t believe there will be an EVF in such a small mirrorless system camera for the foreseeable future, would “GX7 sensor” perhaps mean in-body stabilization, too?
Maybe it will have stabilization because 12-32 will not have.
no hotshoe?
If they’re going for the smallest size possible, they will obviously not include an evf which would also make the camera more expensive.
That would depend on the market they are aiming at a high quality small cam with EVF would be a major attraction the lack of or need to bolt on an external EVF has put me off this type of market so far. Remember that the LF-1 bodies accommodate a 7 times zoom lens. Internally there is little difference in size between a good EVF and a poor EVF . I would be happy with a small jut out at the back to accommodate the EVF eyepiece
http://lpost.ru/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Epson_utimicron-evf-displays.jpg
They can put the LF-1 EVf in it if they use a 16:9 LCD, it’s as simple as that, just because you cannot reduce the body height below the mount height. I say it’s possible.
Like it, want it, please take my money
If they bundle it with a 20/1.7 at a reasonable price, I might be in.
I’ll repeat my comment from the other article:
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
What was the past? Miniaturization of P&S cameras. What happened to P&S cameras? They became obsolete because of smartphones. What was left? Much larger DSLR cameras.
What’s the present? Miniaturization of m4/3. What’s going to happen to m4/3 cameras? They are going to become obsolete because of smartphones. What’s going to be left? Much larger DSLR/DSLM cameras.
I’d say it’s funny, but as a 4/3 user, I’m empathic towards people who are throwing money away by investing into m4/3.
M43 bodies are getting smaller, bigger and staying the same. So I’m not sure that your point is valid in this case. Especially as cellphone cameras are getting bigger, not smaller.
E-M1 isn’t what I would call a “smaller m43 camera”… You’re point is then partially valid.
In fact, the main flaw of P&S camera wasn’t their size, but the fact that they had not added value (quality, zoom ability, etc.) against a smartphone for the main used features (shoot a pic and publish it immediately on the net).
It’s a bit different with interchangeable lens cameras: smartphones have to stay thin and small, and it’ll be difficult to offer that possibility (Sony’s trying something with that “lens only” cam). That’s why they tend to take another approach using 41MP sensors and rely on oversampling and cropping to offer IQ and zoom compensation. Will that approach give an edge over interchangeable lens cameras is yet unknown: it’ll be enough for ppl that only want to share crappy pics on FB, but they’ll need a more serious cam for those “special occasions”.
My guess is that for the average consumer, a smartphone is de facto the “travel/always with you cam” (shoot’n’share) and a *small* mirrorless will be that “camera for more serious pictures”. And yes *small* mirrorless, otherwise they’ll keep their convenient smartphone (like many DSLR users tend to prefer a mirrorless for convenience)…
The reasons why p&s’s are obsolete is that because the quality of smartphones has improved to the point where the marginal improvement is overcome by having something with you all the time. m43 still far surpasses IQ of smartphones.
Panasonic here is battling back saying they want to make m43 pocketable and with you all the time. Don’t know if this will be successful but for the portfolio this is absolutely right. I can’t wait to try this on my 17mm f/1.8.
Congratulations on posting the most ridiculous comment of the month!
Talk to me in 2020, and we’ll see what’s ridiculous.
We are creating photographs NOW you idiot!
Please blow your hot air at a cell-phone site. Thank you and GOOD BYE!
And so what? I’m not “investing” money in m43, but “spending” (not too much) money for a hobby.
In 2020 I’ll probably “spend” money in another hobby or format. In the meanwhile, I won’t regret the good time I had taking pictures…
I really hope your ulcer won’t hurt you too much ’till then, and you’ll move on from what you call “your bad investment in 43 format”…
Are you implying things will change 7 years from now?? Focking genius!
I’m implying that by 2020 m4/3 will have been abandoned, with no further compatibility with *anything* (which makes things even worse, considering that 4/3 lenses are still reasonably usable on m4/3).
1. You don’t know about the future
2. $3000 in m43 lenses (that’s quite a lot) you would buy now (2013) means $35/month (84 months to 2020).
3. Did you throw out your car already? Cause you know, in 2020 it will be outdated…
You are ridicolous any year!
why is 2020 hindsight golden?
you’re right, now we’are high end mobile phone I assume that we are waiting for more and more bigger camera. It’s interesting…
And no VF, right? Are they abandoning GF then? Because there is no difference in market segment it seems. Too many cameras, too many kit zooms, too much market confusion.
Geez, what is the average IQ on this site? I think it’s about the same as the average age. No one here KNOWS if it will have an EVF or not, but some of you have already decided it must have one, and others are just as convinced it doesn’t.
Why don’t you grow up and just wait a few days until we find out for sure?
Who would buy GX7 if GM1 has IBIS AND EVF AND GX7 sensor ?
GX7 is more advanced, more dials, better grip tilteble lcd etc.
Considering that it doesn’t have IBIS or an EVF your question does not need answering
It’s still unknown whether or not those features will be included.
The GX7 sensor and an integrated EVF would be incredible.
Better yet, Who’s stupid enough to ask that question without realizing that a camera is not only about the sensor but also ergonomics, controls, features and a whole lot of other stuff ? oh yeah, you.
Besides, why are you so sure the GM1 will have all of those elements ? 2 out of 3 at best but I doubt they are able to squeeze all 3 of them into a RX100 sized body, and even if they could why would they kill the GX7 in favor of a cheaper camera ? make your neurons a favor and start using them once in a while.
The GX7 is an all-in-one enthusiast camera, this is an ultra-portable ILC camera, totally different uses and demographics. Your comment is as usesless as those comparing the GX7 and EM1 (again, totally different markets), learn to differentiate market segments or you’ll end up buying the wrong camera for yourself.
Will the lens have image stabilization?
What about the stabilization system in it?
I hope so but don’t forget current GX7, they need sells.
So bye bye IBIS, tilting screen. We have to wait more for this kind of camera.
Totally stoked now. EVF totally unnecessary here, if there’s a hot shoe. That’s why there’s a gx7.
moron.. the gx7 is bigger. so who are you to say this camera dont need a EVF?
there’s no chance the average age on this website is over 12.
+100 LOL
Makes you wonder how many self proclaimed ¨Pros¨ are going to upgrade their gear thanks to Daddy and Mommy this Christmas.
It should be a requirement that forums and threads display the user’s real date of birth.
> GM1 has GX7 sensor and LF1 size.
Effectively they are trying to make a perfect cam for the pancakes. Not a bad move at all.
Still, I’m more interested in the new 12-32 lens!
Hopefully they’ll release a few more pancakes, like the Pentax Limited Series 40mm and 70mm.
It’s LONG overdue!
That AF fast and quietly! 🙂
No kidding! I’ve always envied those lenses! (Well, maybe not their prices). I’m always shocked that more people don’t talk about those lenses. If they can make those lenses so small, what the heck is Sony Nex doing???
A lens like the 70mm is small for a number of reasons.
1. It’s got a relatively simple construction (no AF motor, mechanical aperture, small number of elements, extends when focusing)
2. It works with a flange distance of about 45mm, compared with 18 for E-mount.
So you could add 17mm to the thickness of the lens to get what would be an equivalent lens for NEX, and then you’ll also need more space for an in-lens AF motor and electronic aperture motor.
This sounds like the Panasonic answer to the E-PM2 – plus the EV from the LF1 which is better than none at all. It should be a good camera, especially for small lenses. They have the 14mm, the 20mm, and the new 12-32mm. A prime with a wider angle than 14? It will be interesting to see what controls it has. And its weight.
This means that m4/3rds has become a three body system: small (GM1 and E-PM2) “medium” (GX7 G6, and PENs) and large (GH3,E1)depending on photographic purpose and lens choice. Easy and light to carry a second body rather than changing lenses for a two lens day kit.
Panasonic seems to be coming on in relation to its Olympus rival especially for small and medium models. Am not sure which is the better camera, GH3 or E1, putting video aside. Lets see what the new GH5 will look like (in a year or so?)
That sounds really interesting! Now, if they can include a snap focus feature like the Ricoh GR…
size looks interesting.. could make me buy m43 again.
but price…thats the big question.. i don´t pay 500+ euro for such a camera.
..then you don’t own. LOL!
http://camerasize.com/compact/#456,387.5,445,454,467,ha,t
If it does come with a collapsible mount with the right price and a good compact zoom lens it could become the new RX100. Otherwise it’s pointless.
It’s only interesting for the zoom as the other APS with primes will have better IQ while also being more compact, assuming the camera will have a similar size to the LF1 with the Panasonic 14 2.5 glued onto it.
What is a collapsible mount supposed to be?
Make the camera thinner when not in use
I would never thought(base on previous rumours) that I would like the GM1 model..but seeing it now
…I LOVE IT
…only minor thing is no evf…but anyway…consider the buy…and also surprised by the size of new lens….gooooood job Pana
Collapsible lens mount makes very little sense, any lens attached to the camera extends back into the mount, so the movement possible before risking the lens hitting the sensor is very small, like half the distance of the actual flange. Its just not worth it for the added complexity, higher chance of mechanical failure and optical calibration issues (a lens mount that is even 1 degree off can cause serious issues at the corners).
Much more likely will be a collapsible design for the kit lens. Making the lens as small as possible really is going to be the important bit, as the body can only be so small with a fixed flange distance.
If they use a very thin fixed LCD they can probably get body thickness down to around 30-33mm (19.25 for flange, 10-14mm for sensor and lcd), which is pretty close to the 28mm depth of the LF1.
Half the flange would be about 1cm. The Panasonic 14mm 2.5 is 2cm high, so it would be half the size of the lens which is a noticable difference difference (people are amazed when the new iPhone is 10 microns shorter than the previous version).
I agree that it is quite an error prone approach but I think by now the manufacturers have quite lot of knowledge about letting things collapse precisely as they do on most compacts. It even works on APS compacts which should have even smaller tolerances than m43.
Otherwise I just don’t see how you are going to fit something that is 5cm (2+3cm) tall into your pocket. Esp. when the main target market is the Asian market where people won’t have big pockets to begin with. And if you cant, PM and GF series are already small enough for all other purposes.
I’m not sure 10mm is worth it, we’ll see I guess. I’m not aware of any interchangeable lens digital camera that has ever had a collapsible lens mount, that doesn’t mean it will never happen, but it does likely mean that it is a lot more complicated than a fixed-lens compact (regardless of sensor size).
With an ILC you have a mount point that must be extremely rigid and precise and also strong enough to hold the weight of heavy lenses. Its probably easier to design one collapsing component as a unit (the entire lens assembly) as apposed to a collapsing component that has to work with a variety of other components, some of which are lenses that have a very substantial weight.
Nobody is going to attach a 35-100/2.8 to a fixed lens compact, and while its fairly unlikely someone would use that lens with this camera, it is a M43rds format system camera and needs to fully support the lens standards. So I don’t think the two situations are really comparable (fixed lens compact vs ILC).
I totally agree, the technical odds still look bad.
But otherwise I just don’t see how this can be an answer to the other high end compacts.
Building a collapsible mount is no more difficult than building a collapsible lens, and manufacturers have been doing that for about 6 decades now, maybe longer. Whether the slight difference in overall depth once you mount a lens is debatable, but it’s not really a technological challenge.
You don’t see any difference in complexity/engineering in supporting the weight of a collapsible lens assembly that weighs at most 2oz, and support for lenses that weigh upwards of 1 pound, 3 or more pounds if you consider 43rds lenses via adapter?
Seriously, why would you put a 4/3 lens on this?
Once it’s extended, it can be locked solidly in place. The lens mount on your current camera is held on with what, 4 screws? That level of solidity can, I believe, be achieved with 4 locking pins.
It’s about bragging rights. If Panny were to develop a collapsible lens mounts, it would result in the thinnest ILC on the market, for quite some time. I would seriously consider such a body as a second camera to an E-M1 for example. My wife would use it as a party and travel camera, I would use it a sensor back for the 14/2.5!
I doubt we will see an EVF on this camera, because that will result in some projection out the back, making it thicker. I also doubt it will have IBIS, to save depth.
As far as the discussion on the strength of a collapsible lens mount goes: the only reference to design strength of the mount I’ve found is in the specs of the Panny AF100 video camera, which specifies; “A support system is required when mounting a lens weighing more than 1 kg”. I’m sure they could manage that on a collapsible lens mount.
good move, Panasonic!
“GM1 has GX7 sensor and LF1 size.”
So, in other words, it’s images are going to be a blotchy mess. I think I’ll be sticking to my top of the range DLSR for the foreseeable future
You don’t have a top of the range DSLR, probably an old P&S.
Eh?
I saw a 80+ year old dinosaur DSLR user (specimen: tyrannosaurus touristicus Americanus) on the subway yesterday, he could barely stand because of the strain on his neck caused by his prehistoric tool, seems like quite an ordeal for a few holiday snapshots…
I suppose you would have been just a young kid in his eyes with an arrogant smirk on your face. How do you justify your logic that he was not a very good photographer, that had simply bought the lie sold by Canikon. You will hopefully be that age sometime, and alot quicker than you can possibly imagine,
Why does this site attract this kind of idiotic morons is beyond me. m4/3 must be doing pretty good to make you DSLR trolls come here in such numbers, I’m glad your gear fueled paranoia made you waste your time here.
PD: Admin when are you finally going to implement a proper anti-troll system ? there are plenty of WordPress plug-ins for IP bans, mandatory log-ins and moderating, please please take some time to fix this issue, the trolling is getting out of hand and is making m43rumors comments section unbearable to read.
Those “idiotic moronic” comments are part of something called “freedom of speech”. Your name calling breaks it, anti-M43 comments don’t. Klaro twatty?
You don’t know much about the Constitution, do you? The first amendment only prevents governments from abridging your freedom of speech. Private organizations can put whatever limits on speech, within their own environment, they want to.
The operator of this site doesn’t have to let you, or anyone else, post anything at all.
Really? First off, there is no “freedom of speech” on private web sites. The first amendment only prevents the government from limiting your speech, and this isn’t a government web site.
Second, if freedom of speech protects anti-m43 comments, it also protects insults.
You don’t really know much about this, or anything else, do you?
You’re actually defending the trolls ? Unbelievable, this must be the first account of camaraderie between trolls in internet history, ever.
Trolling is not freedom of speech, it’s just noise, it’s the absolute opposite of freedom of speech, it interrupts the flow of dialogue between civilized people, they’re not defending a position with opposing rational arguments, they’re just creating noise and disrupting the conversation, I have no problem debating the merits or lack thereof of m4/3 when there are real arguments behind the discussion, but having to deal 24/7 with this IDIOTIC MORONS who give zero factual arguments and just ride the trolling bandwagon for cheap entertainment is killing this site, so don’t give me that crap about freedom of speech, this is not about constitutional rights (which btw, no particular country’s constitution has any real relevance or jurisdiction on the internet, so your ¨rights¨ mean a whole lot of nothing if admin decides to ban you), this is about 12 year olds being bored and attacking random sites like this one in search of some amount of attention their neglecting parents don’t give them.
My name calling does not rob anyone of their so called ¨freedom of speech¨, I don’t see anyone being silenced by my words. My name calling and their trolling are but a drop in the sea so don’t get ¨constitutional¨ on me.
You really don’t know much about the constitution, do you? The first amendment only protects you from government censorship. Private forums like this one can limit speech in any way they want, including eliminating it completely.
But even if “freedom of speech” did exist here, it would protect insults just as much as anti-m43 comments.
Freedom of speech is not what it is made out to be
Don’t understand what “freedom of speech” really means, do you?
The first amendment only prevents governments from interfering with freedom of speech. Private companies and private sites like this can impose any restrictions they want.
This is not freedom of speech. Freedom always comes with responsibility, and an anonymous poster does not bear any responsibility on what he writes. Besides, the level of name-calling on this site reaches peaks that anywhere in the States or Europe would lead to a civil cause in a tribunal, if they were expressed in person.
So, no, this is not freedom of speech, this is just being able to say whatever and offend whomever thanks to the protection of a fake name.
Bollox, you don’t understand the constitution, do you? The 1st amendment only prevents governments from restricting your freedom of speech. Private businesses, and private sites like this one, can impose any restrictions they want.
With all due respect, this is the internet, why do you assume the US constitution in particular has any relevance or jurisdiction here, the internet is not limited to the US, even if this site is mainly visited by US citizens their constitution (or any other country’s constitution) has no relevance on the web. Talking about the 1st amendment of the US constitution is just as irrelevant as talking about the 3rd amendment of uzbekistan’s constitution. But I agree, this is a private site on the internet, people’s personal perceptions regarding their particular country’s laws have little bearing on how this site (or any other) is run. It’s like being a guest at someone else’s house in a foreign country and demanding freedom of choice because you don’t like broccoli when dinner is on the table, just because back in your own country they have a bill of rights.
yeah nikon guy,you are dinosaur dslr that climb up for survive in camera world
and trolling in everywhere ,not only m4/3 and others mirrorless format
what about you mirrorless brand that may be leave 😉
The only blotchy mess here is your pimply, teen-aged face when you take a selfie with your iphone.
Admin, do we know if the”LF1 size” is with or without the lens. The RX100 II is barely pocketable. Any thicker, and it wouldn’t comfortably fit it a jean pocket. My concern is that the GM1 will be RX100 size, plus a lens. If it doesn’t fit in my pocket, I would rather use a larger body.
Yes, I’m interested in this question too. I doubt we’ll get an answer as rumor, but the wait is just a week!
There’s no way it could possibly that small including the lens. Really, the physics of the situation just make it impossible.
I agree. Which for me, begs the question, why bother? Why not make a camera with a 1″ sensor, and LX7 handling. That would beat the RX100.
This is a good question. But I guess that in order to use some good lenses and take advantage of the sensor you need to see how long the lenses actually are.
I guess the kit zoom will be quite small, but even in that case I don’t really think it can be smaller than the zoom the RX100 (a 1” sensor camera) sports. And the zoom in the RX100 retracts into the camera body when off, which can’t be the case for this camera.
same sensor and build quality? how much will that cost?
It may be competing with the RX100 II price?
I’m guessing it won’t have many of the features of the GX7, like a tilt screen and EVF, which will hold down costs a fair bit. The “new type of shutter” may be cheaper. (I’m thinking that if it has ONLY electronic first curtain, it might have no mechanical first curtain at all, only a “second” curtain to end the exposure.) It could also lack features like the 1/8000th shutter speed, which would make it cheaper to produce.
But this is all speculation. We’ll know in another week.
This will be a great POCKET COMPANION!!!
I love it. The speed of innovation and competition will make us all WINNERS!!!
So…it’s really just an updated GF1. No EVF, right? I mean, what’s the point? Smaller, sure, but not once the larger and larger m4/3 lenses are attached. Unless you only use the 20mm. This just seems like a totally sideways move.
did you even read about the 12-32 lens size? you have the 12-32mm zoom option or others pancakes to use with it and keep it pocketable.
No need to read about the rumored lens, until I see it.
But that’s far from my point. The body is the story, and it doesn’t sound entirely compelling. Yes. Yes. I get it. It’s going to have the updated sensor, wifi, whatever. But in the end, no EVF, and small (which means compromised controls) so I’m not sure where it might fit in with the rest of the MFT cameras. We’ll have to wait and see, I guess.
It would seem to fit in as a high-end compact, essentially filling the LX niche. If so, that’s a smart move because the compact camera business is getting crushed by phones and needs massively better performance to exist at all.
I don’t think this needs to sell in huge volume to be a success, but I wonder if it will really work at all. I have my G3, a nice small full-featured camera that I now only carry when specifically going out shooting. My always-with-me casual camera is an iPhone 5 rather than something like an LX7 or Canon S series. Those are much better and more capable cameras than the iPhone, but the gap is no longer big enough to justify carrying yet another device. In good light, the phone is good enough.
So, the rumoured features and size of this GM are appealing, but I’m not sure it’s going to make a strong enough case for slotting in between my iPhone and my G. However, it might convince me to bite the bullet and replace the G3 with a GX7 sooner than later, which is just as good if not better for Panasonic. (The reason that might happen is that the stripped-down GM1 might make the GX7 irresistible by comparison.)
A perfect example of the modern American. He thinks everything should be designed to suit his desires, and can’t recognize that other people might want something different.
Just because it doesn’t suit you doesn’t mean it isn’t perfect for someone else. Grow up and learn to see beyond your own mirror.
Now it just need to have tilt screen like RX100 II with NFC.
I would get the GM1 just so I could put my Pany 100-300 mm on it (or better yet, my Oly 4/3 50-200 mm SWD with adapter) and really freak out the Canikon pseudophotographers with their “I want to look like a Pro” behemoths.
GX7 sensor in a small body? It should be an awesome camero for me and other users looking for a compact camera with good image quality.
I just want an articulate display, maybe in the GF7 or 8. Hard to wait now.
good build quality, wifi, touch panel, same gx7 sensor and engine, new small lense and small price ? For me, something is wrong.
Like I said in one of the other posts, I didn’t think it would use the same sensor as the G6.
@ admin
Any news if it has basic IBIS?
Even a really basic version of in body IS would make this a real winner with that 12-32, panny pancakes and small Premium panny and Oly primes like 12, 17, 25 & 45.
