899€ ? europeans getting f*** as always… 🙁
The whole system is kind of a niche out here (or anywhere?). Until that changes XF lenses will be relatively expensive, on top of the already high-end pricing. But hey, better than what Leica’s doing. Also, as always, our prices include taxes, which i don’t mind paying because most of it is put to good use unlike the wars those dollars are funding. 😉
Was thinking the same – why so much more expensive in Europe? Lemme check how much in Yen…
I doubt this is the official price. According to top-foto.de, price is not announced yet.
They list it for 899 now :/
But if you buy it in a set with a cheap filter you can get it for 808.49. 🙂
The final price will be 849 also at amazon
However, RRP for Germany is 899, France 929.
95,000 Yen – if the US price is correct than they are really lucky because that’s a lot cheaper than EU and Japan 😉
It’s made in Japan: http://www.photographyblog.com/news/fujifilm_xf_23mm_f_1_4_r_hands_on_photos/
US cost = $849; UK cost = $1185. Why?? Seems like fuel for the ‘grey importing’ business.
Tax & VAT. I think that USA prices are quoted sans tax, which varies state to state.
Correct – State and local taxes vary widely but could add up to 10% or more to the actual retail price.
In general, there is no Federal sales tax or VAT. Most of the government’s revenue comes from income and social security/social insurance taxes.
872 € in Romania:

Seriously bummed that the 56/1.2 isn’t coming until spring. I have a manual focus 57/1.2 that I use when I want that level of depth of field, but I’m sure the Fuji will be better corrected wide open, plus AF will allow for using it as a more all-purpose lens. I was hoping it would be out by January. Well, I guess that means more time to save. 🙂
I quite like how this day is turning out.
Not only does the 23 1.4 seem to be what we hoped for optically (albeit based on very very limited samples – but at least one the recommendations come from David Hobby who actually seems to mean what he says).
But also, Fuji are committing to a release season for the 56 1.2 which I have high hopes for in terms of sharpness and focus accuracy. If that lens is as accurate as the 35mm f1.4 in decent light then I might be able to say bye bye to my rather inconsistent Canon 85mm f/1.2L II which only really excels in really good light. (I know the bokeh and the dof might be two different things with the Fuji and Canon, but we don’t know that yet and I am hoping the 56 1.2 will be… good 🙂 )
What’s with the ‘very very’ ? I think we’re lucky with the amount of samples. When Nikon announces new optics we get about 3 little thumbnails, sometimes a few fullsize on the japanese site, but that’s it. From Fuji we get 16 fullsize samples on two different camera’s and a very decent variety of apertures, scenery, and lighting conditions. 😐
Oh – don’t get me wrong, I am not saying Fuji are not supplying a decent number of samples, I just wanted to say that obviously we’ll get a whole lot more samples and reviews in the coming days and weeks (and with DPreview maybe sometime next year), and that’ll give us more insight into user experiences with this lens.
So the “very very” was just in anticipation of the many samples to come…
If i had the money i’d have seen enough to pre-order one right now. 🙂
great bokeh!!
It’s funny to see those guys from Europe complain about 40% more.
In Brazil we get at least 250%.
Fujinon 35mm costs $2000 here.
Hehehe – they could have released this without any samples at all, and I’d still have it pre-ordered.
Me too I am very dissappointed that the 56/1,2 – my most awaited lens – comes much later than first hinted (as a 56/1,4). This is a real portrait lens, and only with the 56 the classic “trio” of wide/ normal/ tele is accomplished.
Would it be available today, I’d buy it tomorrow, like that: should Sony release a decent and affordable Nex FF meanwhile and Zeiss releases a 85/1,8 lens for it (there is at least the rumour that this will happen), then good- bye Fuji. I’ll ditch a Fuji crop for a decent FF any day…

Spring 2014 for the 56?!
So is it $899 or $849? Two posts in a row about official releases with two different prices.
It’s $849 (as rumored on FR), but I suppose AmazonUS made an type-error. Now they also priced the 23 at 849, as BHphoto and Adorama
I got mine from Adorama this morning, at $849, no sales tax (at least as to California residents) and free shipping.

I bought 2 for 150$ each
One for my Nikon’s and one for my Canon’s.
Now that I know how much Fuji consumers are paying, I think I might buy some more…
I feel so sad for you Fuji fanboys.
I’m kind of happy for you that Fuji is due to declare bankruptcy very soon, and you should too.
Canon and Nikon AF 35mm 1.4 lenses for $150? Do share your secret, please. I’d love to see the photos you take with those lenses, as well.
By the way, the apostrophe shows possession, not plurality.
I want to see some more portrait type shots wide open at base ISO to see how sharp it is. Please paste links if anyone finds any more samples.
