Stellar…
Stellar IQ? Sure. Stellar lens? Very debatable.
Just let the drooling fan boys enjoy their perfect lens. Afterall, no one at all can design lenses except Fujifilm.
I’d love to buy it but…it’s too big, too heavy, and too expensive (although if it were smaller and lighter i’d shell out). 77mm filter threat is a bridge too far.
Anyone know what the lens looks like with the barrel extended? I can’t seem to find a photo of it extended.
I think that the barrel does not extend while zooming. So that is why there is no photo of it extended 😉
Yeah that’s what I initially thought but I’m afraid we were both wrong

Ahhh thank you!
2,5 cm more. 106mm to 129,5mm.
Fuji urgently needs to get support in how to design and build lenses!!! From Samsung, e.g.!!!
Fuji 16-55 f2.8 665g WR APS-C lens no OIS
Samsung 16-50 f2.0-f2.8 622g WR APS-C lens WITH OIS
Samsung starts at F2.0 (!!) and does have OIS (!!) build in AANNDD is a few grams lighter..
This Fuji lens is a damn sad story.. 🙁
It’s a sad “story” that people suggest that Fujifilm can learn from Samsung how to make lenses!
I bet you own a Samsung Phone and hate Apple iPhones!
Wrong. I do have an IPhone and a Fuji XT1 with 10-24, 23, 35, 55-200.
So what`?
Do you take pictures with those?
I doubt it!
Take a look at the tests, and stop writing nonsense.
Samsung’s 16-50mm F2.0-2.8 with OIS is looking pretty good right
Samsung lens 😀 😀 😀
If Samsung are so good, what do they have similar to the 56mm f/1.2, 35mm f/1.4, 23mm f/1.4 etc.?
Lets wait and see how the IQ stacks up before we decide that the samsung is better purely based on the spec sheet.
For all those moaning about the size of this lens and the lack of OIS, Have you forgot that they already sell an 18-55 that addresses both of those concerns.
This lens has faster aperture and weather sealing for those that prefer those features, and can afford it. Nobody is forcing you to buy it.
Nope, no one is forcing me to buy it. And no one is forcing me to stick with fujifilm either. I want my smallish carry everywhere normal zoom to also have a very high build quality and be weathersealed. Fortunately, I’m not forgetting that other manufacturers offer that.
Which lens has better build quality than the 18-55, is the same size or smaller, weather sealed, and similar image quality? Please enlighten us.
Samsung 16-50/2-2.8, Olympus 12-40/2.8, Panasonic 12-35/2.8. No, the Fuji 18-55/2.8-4 cannot compare, it does not have weather-sealing, all-important 24mm equivalent or at least f/2.8 everywhere.
The Olympus is for a smaller sensor, so it’s not equivalent to the Fuji 16-55, in fact it’s not even equivalent to the 18-55.
The Samsung is much bigger than the 18-55, so neither of those fit the spec I’m afraid.
Oh, and BTW, the Olympus costs twice as much as the Fuji despite effectively being a slower lens and having no OIS.
Olympus 12-40 costs $800 with a camera, not $1200 as Fuji 16-55.
Twice as much as the 18-55 which it is comparable with. £792 on amazon UK vs £425 for the Fuji. The Fuji 16-55 is a higher class of lens, Olympus would have to create an f/2 zoom to match it’s DoF control.
Ecept 18-55 in no way comparable to constant f/2.8 weather-sealed lens with 24mm-eq wide end and mechanical manual focus.
The Sony Zeiss E 16-70mm f/4 (not weather sealed yet)
Much more expensive than the Fuji, but slower, although the slightly better zoom range is nice I guess.
Fuji 12-40 is bigger, but still small enough. Panasonic 12-35 is the same size. I would love a 16-50 2.8-4 build like the 12-40.
Price in sweden will be $1386,43 (Skr 10999)
For micro 4/3, the Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO, in my country is 1050 euros. I guess the XF 16-55mm F2.8 for APS-C at 1200 euros will reflect a fair price.
