Photographyblog just posted some sample images shot with the XC 16-50 (click here) and XF 27 (click here). They also shot the entire ISO range and posted a sample video here. The full review will come soon.
The X-M1 is now available for pre-order in Italy (with a significant price difference between the silver and black version).

It’s me or the 16-50 is a little disappointing ? However, the 27 is much better… Good feeling about this 27 mm.
My thoughts exactly
I would say there’s insufficient data and too many variables for you to draw a conclusion based on one set of online samples from a third party.
You don’t know:
– what format these were — are they OOC jpgs or converted raw files?
– what resolution / compression was applied in-camera
– what other in-camera settings were used (I.e., sharpness, color, contrast, film simulation, etc)
– what the max aperture is for the 16-50 is before diffraction degrades significantly
Not to mention that output on your side is directly tied to your own monitor settings and will be different for others.
The best test for any camera / lens combo is to rent and shoot for yourself and see what the results are for YOU.
Not really. This set of images kinda sucks. Very boring subjects. It’s probably one of the best kit lenses around if the other image samples I’ve seen are anything to go by.
Yeah that is standard practice for photographyblog. They can even make the RX1 look bad.
It’s a plastic $100 kit lens. You must compare it with Sony’s 16-50 pancake, not the 18-55 or anything. In that respect i don’t think it is at all disappointing, and shouldn’t be, considering the size. No surprise the 27mm is better, but it’s also pretty great on its own. I like the rendering and angle of view very much as well. 🙂
Also interesting how different the character of the 27mm is compared to the X100(s).
Good rumour – keep up the good work!
I would like to see an fuji 18-200mm travel lens in the line up of X F lenses
The size of the 27mm lens is almost always presented as the reason to why this lens does not include an aperture ring.
However, in the following Fuji catalog
http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/pdf/lenses_accessories_catalogue_01.pdf
the 27mm appears to have an aperture ring even with the small size of the lens.
The older images are of preproduction samples or mockups. They didn’t put an aperture ring in the production model. Get over it and move on.
If the 16-50 images aren’t so great, I’m not really bothered by that. It’s a $100 plastic kit lens. Its comparables are the Canikony plastic kit lenses, not the f/2.8 zooms that the 18-55 Fuji compares to.
