Fuji is famous for frequently releasing firmware updates and the constant improvement of its cameras. Now they just released the firmware 1.02 for the X100S here.
The phenomenon is fixed that the brightness of the OVF bright frame doesn’t change according to a surrounding brightness in case of ISO 1600 and higher.
Keep it up Fuji!… and what should be next? A fully customizable Q-menu as Ivar suggest in the comments? (RAW shooters would be very happy)

Fuji X100S update guide

Very good, Fuji!
X100S has been available for short period, this makes me confident future updates will come in steadily. I also hope Fuji add the 24p option to video recording for the X-Trans filmmakers in us.
I had no idea that people actually used the movie-function in the X-Series of cameras? Must be quite a ‘challenge’ if anything but hey, then again; if it works for ya’;o)
Best regards

ps. And You’re welcome btw, Patrick!
+1 to this!!
Really need decent video given the cost of these.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, purists don’t care of video. But for a product line to continue it needs a wider user base.
Right now, phones make better videos!!!!
But perhaps most folks that buys into these really dont care about the video-function that much – whether purists or no not as you refer to them;-) I mean if I was after video-functionality in the 1st place I certainly wouldn’t even had gone to these X-cams…. I for one would feel quite the opposite as Yourself if they made any greater effort in implementing those features much further…. And as to whether they need a wider userbase for survival of the X-series is for Fuji to evaluate, no;o)? As it looks right now they seem to have managed just fine without it;o)

I’ve seen people requesting and complaining about video quite a bit. Maybe they are not elite users but that doesn’t mean their money is not making the X series viable.
At the price point Fuji aims for you’d expect video to be at least usable. Even if it is a secondary feature, which it is on practically every SLR, then it should be usable.
At the moment it is not remotely usable.
Hi Lucas,
My point is that people seemingly bought (- and still do under same terms as ever!) into the full range of X-Series cameras fully knowing (at least I hope so for their own sakes?) that this was/is less than a secondary if even tertiary feature… If they were buying into this line and hoping for a change over time to match other brands offerings on this specific feature I find somewhat naive or at the very least simply unrealistic…
I guess we just look at it differently – If I want proper videofunctionality in a non-video camera the only I can think of is the Canon 5D MkIII and I realize thats quite another segment.
I also think that it’s somewhat usable at present in the X’s but certainly not even remotely ‘broadcast’-stuff;o) – just went and tried it out on a very limited basis – and as a kind of sketchpad-function it’s somewhat ok(-ish), I think…
Finally, as said in the 1st comment: I’m a non-video-kinda-guy which I don’t consider the same as being neither elitist nor purist or whatever was mentioned in some earlier remark. I just consider it a totally different discipline alltogether. In fact and in all honesty theres ‘more’ than enough ‘going on’ in a single frame for my limited capacity and to think that I should handle 24, 25 or even 30 every second is a mere fantasy- lol.

For klehmann.
It is good philosophy to have different camera for photography and videography. I have Canon EOS 5D MkIII for professional purpose however only for video function.
With X-Trans the video resolution finally became good as the 5D. It no longer depend on Full Frame and high bitrate which Fujifilm actually added to X cameras (36Mbps). Additionally for X-PRO1 and X-E1 user is possible to record video with LEICA M lenses. It helps convey your purpose with good detail and without the cost of LEICA M Typ 240 camera for many thousands.
I believe the compact size of X100S can make the perfect travel camera not only for photography. Market opportunities are very big for portable videography equipment. Why take two cameras for travel if you can have one X camera with all? It takes just firmware update for basic video control and 24p option. That is all I ask for and hope will become realized by Fujifilm.
It’s a competitive market.
Fuji is by no means rolling in money.
People buy cameras for photography, and oftentimes video is something that will be the bonus feature that sways them towards a product or brand.
The continuation of our beloved X series lens and cameras depend on competitiveness.
There is no reason not to enhance video.
I disagree to the statement there is no need to enhance video. There are plenty of people who shoot multimedia now. All we ask is 24p. This would seem easy enough and make an already fantastic camera just about perfect. And this can only mean good things for Fuji. Win win.
Fully customizable Q-menu would be nice so that whatever menu option can be assigned to Q-menu. As I shoot RAW exclusively it is almost useless at the time being.
Other than that, a brilliant camera! I like every aspect of it.
+1 to the Q-menu customization!!

Would it be theoretically possible with a firmware update to increase the maximum ISO available when shooting RAW to 12800 instead of 6400?
Doesn’t make sense at all. ISO12800 in JPEG is just ISO6400 pushed by one EV.
Also, people might want to hold off updating until they’ve read up on it. Many people report that 1.01 had focusing issues that 1.00 didn’t, and it’s hard to downgrade.
Already a firmware update and still essentially unavailable in the USA 🙁
Here in Singapore I just walked into a shop and got it a a great price with freebies.
I was hoping for red peaking mode as an option.
So, they didn;t work on the AF issue? WTF Fuji…
“Fuji is famous for frequently releasing firmware updates and the constant improvement of its cameras”
Just not so much with the Pro line, as on late 🙁
If you own or owned and XE-1 or X-Pro1 then thank you very much for beta testing the products!
Now you can move them aside and buy the new versions when they come out as they have become obsolete. Fuji forget the firmware upgrades for these old beta camera’s, bring out a new one that actually works so that my frustration levels and missed shots may diminish.
Not so much a firmware request but a software request.
Can Fuji please include all the processing software you can do in the camera as part of MyFinePix Studio?
No other software comes close (including silkypix) to the output you get from the camera. Even with a lot of tweaking it’s not the same as what you get from the camera’s jpgs.
90% of the time all you want to do is adjust exposure levels and apply the different film types that they offer.
Also there’s a bug with MyFinePix Studio you can’t view raw files unless you use the slideshow or photo gallery features.
Ideally the RAF format would have some compression but I can live with the large files if it means faster in camera processing.
+1 on the pro commentary. Manual focus assist for the X-Pro1 peaking or whatever is at hand, please!
I expected faster AF. This “phenomenon” that was fixed, I don’t think anyone noticed it!
hahaha – You got that right – I know I didn’t!
Guess what! AF is much faster and more accurate than 1.01!
Less hunting in bright situations, and to some extent, also in darker situations. Seems like PDAF sprung back to life!
Same here. Noticed an improvement on AF performace compared to 1.01.
I notified Fuji about this official firmware update wish list poll:

… and they found it interesting. So make sure to add your own votes or ideas there, making it easier for everyone to see which are the most requested improvements.
