This X-M1 seems more and more like an alternative to the X-E1 with tilt screen and wi-fi instead of a lower level entry camera to me… Especially at that price point which really isn’t that different from the X-E1…
I agree. It’s a differently configured X-E1 more than anything else.
Upgrades from X-E1:
– higher res bigger screen
– Wifi
Downgrades:
– No EVF (I use it a lot)
Perceivable downgrades (although possibly easier transition from DSLRs):
– Mode dial instead of shutter speed.
– Generic dial instead of compensation
Surprising:
– No X-Trans 2 sensor from X100s
I guess the rumours about a second cheap body were true, because this is nothing like that…
Interesting. I was expecting $100 less:
Fuji X-M1: $599.95
Fuji X-M1 with XC 16-50: $699.95
XF 27mm: $349.95
yeah, I guess everybody was expecting it to be $100 less
should be at least $100 cheaper…
Street price will likely put it closer to the $599 mark, and those X-Pro/X-E1 specials will be over in a few days putting a little more margin between them.
Also don’t discount the size of this little machine. That could be a huge deciding factor for many buyers. Compared to Pens, GF’s, NEX’s etc the X-E1 is still quite largeish (relatively speaking).
I like the sound of focus peaking being included. This bodes well for the much anticipated “Super Firmware Update” next month for older bodies. PDAF in this X-M1 would have crushed sales on other X Bodies and X100s. Fuji Global has to be mindful of how many units are lying around on shelves in warehouses before bringing out new features in cheaper cameras. You can bet your life those big discounts this month were an effort to reduce inventory.
This thing will have to drop at least $300 to sell in any quantity.
Any word on the XS-2?
Hey FR,
Looks like Fuji already launched everything. Announced that on July 23rd they are finally delivering a new firmware that will add Focus Peaking to the X-Pro1 and X-E1.
FINALLY!!!!
I like X series because of its classical layout. Although, other new function might be attractive — new LCD screen, wifi. However, without shutter speed dial, the new one just like other modern digital cameras. Don’t like it.
Price looks pretty good out of the gate. $400 cheaper than the XE1 with lens. There’ll be some discounts later on too after the first on the blockers make their purchases.
