“Welcome to the MADE IN JAPAN”… Walk Inside the Fuji Factory with focus-numerique! + VOTE your favorite X Lens!

 photo reportage_zpswoez9atm.jpg

Fujifilm invited the popular French photography site focus-numerique (translation) to visit the Fujifilm factory (1 out of 5 factories in Japan), where the X100T, X-T1 and several XF lenses are assambled.

In this specific case you can see how they assamble the XF 16-55 lens.

As a reminder, at the bottom is the video of the Fujinon Craftsmanship, shared back in October 2014. From the polishing to the mold pressing, from the assembling to the final check (where each lens is carefully checked by skilled technicians) and the packaging… and at the end of the chain, there is somewhere a happy X-shooter enjoying the great quality of the glass.

Also time to update the “favorite Fujinon lens” poll, since we now have some new entires.

NOTE: the ver.2 of the XC lenses is not included, since it’s not really available at the moment.

  1. Favorite lens? That’s a difficult one. I love my 23mm. I use my 18-55 the most. I would love to try the 16-55. And I think on buying the 18-135 although the IQ is probably going to dissapoint.

    1. I am toying with the same idea re 18-135; From the limited information I gather the IQ won’t disappoint (it is said to be in the same league as the Nikon 24-120 f/4 if that means something to you); nor will the OIS; My real worry is the limited aperture, it seems to be a fair light lens. Decisions, decisions 🙂

      1. Well I noticed last short trip I came short on the 55 for landscapes. I think 135 is just the bit extra tele I need for that purpose. I can obviously check for a 55-200 but I’m not really into changing lenses all the time. The 18-135 would fit perfectly for travel/landscapes and if I need a better aperture I could grab the 23mm. But it’s indeed decisions, decisions 🙂

    1. Very true. For example for people like me having vary focal glasses … I can’t read the text in the OVF (aperture, speed …) the font size is too small for me.

    2. They probably think the 27 is close enough to a “cheap 23” which in a way is true, but that 27 really should have been a 23 f2 or 2.8 with an aperture ring… One day perhaps.

  2. I really really want to get the xt1 but just can’t pull the trigger on it, sensor from 2012 and huge price premium over xe2. But I need the AF from xt1…arghhhhh

    1. I pulled the trigger yesterday from an X-Pro1. Thought I could hold out, until I saw the graphite X-T1 in person.

  3. My favourites are 23 1.4 and 56 1.2, but I just can’t wait for that new 16 1.4… That’s gonna be one sexy trio 🙂

    1. I don’t love trio’s, but this one is the exception.
“Ach, ieder nadeel heeft z’n voordeel” 🙂

  4. People being proud on the products they are manufacturing. A clean, new factory, which seems to be very well organized, almost in a German, Leica way. I’m still believing if there’s one out there that can built the same reputation of perfect glass like Leica & Zeiss have, it’s Fujifilm. But there’s still a lot of R&D work to be done. From better sensors, more stable and solid hardware & firmware, to a perfect, flawless market support. And a real top model, one that beats anything else in the CSC market by far. No longer discussion about size, they have to go with a unique 35mm-sensor camera, making use of a small gold-branded series of top-notch prime glass to get in the same league of the very best. An APO 50mm Fujinon would do the final sale for me, why need more.

  5. Nice to see a fancy promo video, but I’ve been a little disappointed with the build quality of my Fuji lenses: 18mm got mold after 1 year. 14mm has a concentrically loose aperture ring. 60mm macro has a very stiff focus ring. 35mm has a loose focus ring and rather loose bayonet mount. 18-55 developed loose zoom mechanism and also bayonet mount seems to have too much play. None of the kit has been used that much.
I’m still hanging in there with Fuji, but build quality is far superior on my Panasonic and Nikon system lenses.

    1. I am sorry to hear about your experience. Have you taken the lenses back to the dealer for repairs under warranty?

      1. They aren’t faults as such, the lenses function ok. just don’t feel good to use.
I think my problems are due to buying the first ones off the production line. My problem lenses were all from the first batch on sale.
When I play with the same lenses on display at the airport photo store they all feel great – none of the problems mine have.

I can see Fuji have ironed out the build problems.

  6. That is a concern. Do you live in the tropics or a high humidity area? Did your lens get caught in the rain? Have you had a dealer look at your lens under warranty?
