[I’ve already share Fuji’s X-E2 high-res samples at Fuji’s website here (and XQ1 here). For the X-E2 Brochure click here and here is the features page. The Brochure says that the X-E2 (AF-speed 0,08 sec.) has the fastest AF speed among digital cameras equipped with a 4/3-inch or larger sensor. Measurement conducted by Fujifilm research based on CIPA guidelines using the X-E2 equipped with [shoplink 12888]XF14mmF2.8 R lens[/shoplink] in High Performance mode as of September 2013.]

It seems that for Riley Joseph, the X-PRO1 isn’t Fuji’s flagship anymore! It has become the back-up camera of the X-E2. Why? You can read it here:
“The X-E2 inherits the X-Trans II sensor and the phase & contrast auto focus from the X100S. In using the camera I found the auto focus to be very accurate and snappy. Definitely better than my X-Pro1. And that is not even using the phase detection because my lenses do not have the required firmware updates for the camera. […] And in another suprise (to myself especially) the X-Pro1 will become the backup to the X-E2. At least until the X-Pro2 turns up.”
You can find one more first impressions article at KaleJF here. And check out also Rico’s first look (with more then 200 comments) here (for Rico’s XQ1 Flickr set click here).
How to support Fujirumors
Here is how you can support Fujirumors: if you think the X-E2 is the camera that meets your needs and you want to pre-order it, consider to use one of the links below. FR will get a small commission and it won’t cost you one single penny extra. Thanks in advance for every FR-reader who places his pre-order via Fujirumors. It’s a great help to keep the site ticking over.

I ordered through B&H since no camera store near me stocks Fuji. But I can’t wait to get it and make my X-E1 a dedicated IR or full spectrum camera. Would make a great system for astrophotography!
Any news about x-pro2?
except Wex UK, any other possibility to preorder the X-E2 in Europe (Germany, The Netherlands)?
Try with fotomundus in Germany. They have the X-E2 listed.
Thank you Patrick! Just ordered mine at Mundus.
Duh. Why would the X-E2 overtake the XPro1? Could it be the updated sensor and processor? It’s painfully obvious since FUji did not update the XPro1 yet.
If you had a D700, and then Nikon comes out with the D600 which has all better, upgraded feature sets – it’s the same thing…UNTIL…the D800 came out and then that quashes that argument.
If I was a betting man, I’d make the prediction that the xpro 2 will be full frame and / or have the organic sensor tech. Will surely be released in the first half 2014. Weather sealing, in body stabilisation please?!
They seem to be neglecting the X-Pro 1, which is likely do to lower sales than the X-E1. However, I think they are failing to recognize that the X-Pro 1 didn’t sell well because it was in beta-form when it was released and it had serious issues for over a year, particularly with auto focus and raw support.
In my opinion, they need to introduce the X-Pro 2 as a true pro camera in early to mid 2014 (weather sealing, fast and accurate AF, a high flash sync speed, minimum shutter speed settings in auto ISO, a brighter, bigger EVF/OVF, etc) as it is potentially there best camera. If it is not full frame, it needs to be priced accordingly (no more than $1250 for the body). If full frame, $2000 or less.
No matter what, they better stop neglecting it. The fact that they didn’t reach their potential in sales was because of poor planning. If it came out with the AF it has today and the raw support was as good as it is currently (could still be better), it would have been successful. I believe this because despite all the issues, I always wanted it to be a great since release, and finally bought one in the Spring, after firmware updates made it a very good camera. If they introduce an X-Pro 2 in the near future with significant improvements, I will buy one, and I think many others will too. But, they better hurry up and bring it out with significant improvements.
I don’t believe that Fuji truly forgot about the XPro1. I think they might simply be taking the view that Canon and Nikon take with their high-end cameras, where you don’t see yearly refreshes or new releases.
Of course the XPro1 had its faults upon release – and I don’t make excuses for Fuji on this. Sure, there are no perfect cameras. You can find fault with the cheapest to most expensive cameras from every brand under the sun. But at a very basic point, the XPro1 failed in the realms of AF and raw support (though this latter point is connected hand in hand with the 3rd party softwares not being able to cope, too).
It would be nice is all companies would give a product roadmap to satisfy its customer base and perhaps it would give a good jolt of competition to competitors who could also sit back and say, “wow…they are releasing THAT in 6 months…we better get to work.” But it’s not gonna happen. We all have to bite down, grin and bare it.
There will eventually come a day when the XPro2 sees the light of day. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But the two features I continue to see requested, for which would require an entirely NEW body/lens config, are weather sealing and FF.
The XPro1 and it’s successor would prove useless with FF and/or weather sealing because the X Series lenses won’t/can’t/don’t provide those same two features.
It’s pointless to have a weather sealed body and the lens without. Same with FF. So if Fuji decided to included one or the other, the’d have to start a new class or subclass of lenses.
Totally agree with all of your points, except the last. There is a lot of talk about the need to go FF and I just don’t understand it. I bought into Cana 5 series to use my Contax lenses, but switched to the X-P when it was available, and couldn’t be happier. My main concern about crop sensors was wide angle lenses, but the native Fuji lenses are on par with the Zeiss.
Weather sealing would still be worth it for the new body, and then as new R lenses are introduced they would each have this feature. Unlike a switch to FF, all the older lenses would still be usable, just not sealed.
Regarding FF, remember that would require a completely new set of lens which would likely take a long time especially since they are still two lenses away from finishing the APS lens road map started almost two years ago. So even if they. Released a FF body, the lens selection would be lacking, just like the new Ff Sony’s
Quantitatively, what constitutes “strong sales.” Are there sales stats shown on the Amazon site, Patrick?
I just checked Amazon’s Sales rankings of camera & photos, and the XE-2 body was the 7th highest camera listed (once you clear away accessories). The XE-2 w/18-55 zoom was in the top 20.
The Sony A7 is of course higher, but this still suggests strong sales, in an objective sense.
X-e2 currently ranked no. 2 among system cameras, and all 4 combinations are among top 10. sony a7r is leading.
The X-E2 is on rank 2, 4, 6 and 10 at the Amazon CSC ranking and 9th at the overall ranking.
Sales, sales, sales,
its getting ridiculous
keep the site as its called.
Agreed. The important and relevant information is the specs, reviews and any/all data pertaining to the actual build/use/functions of the cameras and products of Fuji.
If this website was called FujiStats or FujiBusiness – then by all means lets number crunch the sales figures. But for professional photographers and our amateur brethren – who f’in cares about Amazon rankings or sales figures?

Is getting a mixed fanboy an business site 🙂

I find it interesting to see if a camera is top or flop. And for a (p)review of the X-E2 check out the X-pert corner special. It’s the most detailed available on the web right now.
Good ! It means all those great improvements will find their way into the X-Pro 2 when it is released… ;o)
Hopefully they come out with an X-Pro 2 soon, as the optical viewfinder is what sets them apart from others, not just another EVF mirrorless camera. I love the size and design of the X-Pro more than any other camera as well. That said, the X-Pro 2 should come with a brighter, larger EVF/OVF and the OVF, if possible, should be more accurate. That is more important to me than whether it is APS-C or full frame.
