  1. this year there is still the X-A1, right? any other camera from the X-series? what about the bigger sensor compact, is it really in the works?

  2. Samyang has a good track record for UWA. The fisheyes for mirrorless are great lenses, as is the 14mm FF. I wonder how big and expensive this one will be? All in all it’s good news though!

  3. Hmmm… Wondering if I should hold out on the Fuji XF 14mm lens.. I love my Samyang 8mm lens if you have the correct settings the results are pretty amazing.

  4. The Samyang 14mm f2.8 is already a good and cheaper alternative to the Fuji 14mm – though a lot bigger. But it’s FF, so could be used with a Speedbooster for 10.5mm f2 as well.

      1. You could buy a Canon or Nikon one, (it has a manual aperture ring), and a $10 adapter for the Fuji. It’s basically just a spacer tube, no optics. I similarly used a Samyang 14mm (Canon EF mount) on my old NEX-7 and it was superbly sharp corner to corner. Enormous and heavy though, and manual focus only.

    1. it’s 14mm on full frame so gives 21.5mm FF equiv. on APS. With speed booster it would be about 16mm FF equiv. on fuji not 10.5mm.

Yes it’s cheaper than fuji 14mm but twice as big and heavy. Add speed booster and using mirrorless camera is pointless with such bulk.

  5. I recall a rumor on FR about Samyang producing a tilt-shift lens for x-mount as well. Given that Fuji is scheduled to release a 10-20 WA this year and they have the outstanding and highly-regarded 14mm already, I’d much prefer availability of the Samyang TS lens in a semi-wide than just another wide prime.

  6. I have used Samyang/Rokinon’s 8mm Fisheye on the X-E1 this past winter for night skies, and while it has worked great at f/2.8 it hasn’t always been fast enough and I’ve had to deal with a considerable amount of noise in post.

For me giving up some of the width of the FOV for a faster, fully manual lens sounds like a really interesting development, and given my experience with Rokinon/Samyangs on both Fujis and Canons I have a feeling we can look forward to a really great, cheap-ish lens for night skies and landscapes.

  7. Of its in the price range of the 8mm, I’ll definitely buy it! @ Mads for nighttime sky/landscape photography I suggest a smaller aperture for more dof and a good tripod is a must! Why would you shoot at a large aperture?

    1. Hi Jim – yeah, I see why that might sound confusing. I meant that it will be nice to have for both landscapes and night skies. However I would obviously not shoot landscapes at f/2, I just meant that f/2 would be nice at night (I actually prefer even faster lenses, with a 24 (FF equivalent) at f/1.4 the weapon of choice usually).
