RUMOR: lens roadmap update – 56mm f1.2 (not f1.4) delayed to Jan 2014?

Every Fujirumors reader knows it: the 55-200 will be officially announced tomorrow, and, maybe even more important, the lens roadmap will be updated… so what’s new?

FR-reader Richard (the one who created the X-M9 and the sniper X-E1) directed my attention here, where a source said that Fuji will release the 56mm f1.2 (and not f1.4) on Jan 2014 (delayed to the original roadmap.)

The 56 f1.4 is the third release-option in our poll. If this rumor is true, would you like this “new” lens to be released earlier? So I start this new poll with the rumored 56mm f1.2 lens

thanks Richard… and we are waiting for a new crazy X-E1 configuration!

    1. I also prefer 1.4. While I like f1.2, a f1.2 is probably going to cost at least as much as the 14mm f2.8.

  1. I only chose the 23/1.4 because I have an 85/1.4 that is now very happy on my D3s… Unless the 56/1.2 focuses faster than that combo 😉

  2. I would like a 1.2, but feel the size may be too big and heavy, price will also be astronomical, realistically a 1.4 is all I really need, I would however love to see a 85mm 1.8/2 for head and shoulders portraits. In the current roadmap there is a lot of great lenses announced, however not having a fast prime over 56mm is a bit of a shame and a large oversight for me. I will have to stick with my 85mm and 135mm canon fds. Cheers jon

    1. Hi, of all the lenses I have used for portraiture my favourite has to be the canon 100mm f2, I used this on my old 40d and produced beautiful image quality, a 85mm full frame equiv is ok but for me always preferred the 135mm to 150mm full frame equiv. Cheers jon

      1. I would also love to get a f2 or faster lens in the 90-100mm range. Something to compete with that beautiful Olympus 75mm.

  3. the 56 sounds good, 1.2, 1.4 meh… but what i want is FF. XP-2 FF? then these lenses can do what they are supposed to do…

      1. An APS-H sized sensor (1.2 crop), if the image circle in the current lenses cover that, would be a fantastic option, rather than full frame. That would justify the higher price of the X-Pro 2, assuming it will cost close to the same as the X-pro 1, and will make the loooooong wait perhaps worth it.

    1. I wish I were so rich that I could sneer at f1.4 lenses and refuse to give the time of day to anything less than a full frame sensor. As it is, I’ll have to content myself with my little proletariat X-E1.

  4. Not having a good fast shallow DOF portrait lens is one of the last ‘glaring holes’ in Fuji’s lense lineup. Because of this, I have been forced to use legacy manual lenses on the Fuji X’s because of this ‘long time’ limitation. It would be ‘really nice’ to have AF on a portrait lens for once.

    1. Eric, I completely agree. Legacy manual lenses work and are lovely in many ways, but they are a poor substitute for an AF lens. If they decide to push back the 56mm (or any AF portrait lens) by almost year, I will have to reconsider using the Fuji as my main camera.

  5. I dont know about this rumor. Seem a little far fetched. Making it 1.2 they would sell ALOT less. The 56mm 1.4 would be around 599-699 probably(would sell tons), with the 1.2 we would be looking at 1000(atleast)-1500(selling a quarter). Plus that thing is going to be rather big and heavy(loosing more sales). I dont see it happening. look at the 85mm on the samsung mirrorless cameras, thats what kind of size your going to be looking at.
On the other end, a lens like that could push tons of people over to adopt the fuji system.

Who knows, i would buy it if it wasnt ungodly heavy and large!

    1. A regular nikon-canon-sigma-etc 50ish mm FF lens is 450 USD at the most, since 50mm is the easiest focal distance to get right. A 56mm 1.4 by Fuji would be 400 USD tops. A 1.2 on the other hand could well reach 900 USD, but I don’t see it going over the 1000 mark.

      1. Fuji doesn’t release their lens cheaply. Even small and not-so-sharp 18mm costs $600. I bet no Fuji lens will be cheaper than that.
